Chapter 17: Through Summer

"Liu Wei... is definitely hiding something from me!"

After school, Fang Xing didn't head home with Liu Wei. Instead, he walked alone towards Xingfu Jiayuan Community.

On the white embankment, the river flowed gently past, the sound of the water unchanged.

Fang Xing knew, however, that their relationship could never return to what it once was.

'If it were the original owner of this body, they would probably be heartbroken, right? After all, they were best friends. But to me, Liu Wei is just another ordinary friend...'

He sighed and returned to his dormitory, readying himself to traverse worlds.

...

In another world, at a temporary camp.

Fang Xing began with practicing stake exercises, followed by daily digging, modifying and expanding the temporary camp, and finally, learning the language of this other world.

His progress was astonishingly fast under the influence of various effects.

Chatter!

While practicing, synthetic birds returned, each clutching small stones, beetles, or similar shaped devices meant for surveillance.

'Recovering these items is just as important...'

'Although this world is completely different from the Blue Star Federation, with no semblance of unified order, and their imagination might not stretch to crossing worlds, these devices, if discovered, would likely be mistaken for strange, intricate puppets...'

'But striving for perfection means leaving no margin for error, not even for defective monitors—all must be retrieved.'

'Now that I have enough Blood Vitality Pills, there's no rush to interact further until I have mastered the language...'

Fang Xing had already mapped out his next steps.

With the semester nearing its end, two months of vacation will follow after the finals.

Then, it won't be too late to delve deeper into exploring the other world.

After all, with daily classes tying him down, exploration was limited to nights or weekends, which was hardly satisfying.

...

Morning.

Fang Xing jogged towards Yucai High School.

‘This "Qi and Blood Pill" is truly powerful. If I combine it with the Grand Dragon Stance, I should be able to achieve the perfect body refinement before the final exams... Finishing the first year with complete body refinement? Well, that’s barely passable, but at least it finally gives me some hope of getting into college.’

While he was running and exercising, Fang Xing had a myriad of thoughts.

‘By that time, my Grand Dragon Stance should be able to reach the third stage with the help of the elixirs. Even if my "Jade Skin" is exposed, it wouldn’t matter. Instead, it might attract more investment...’

The early morning streets were quiet, with hardly any pedestrians on the road beside the riverbank.

Only one woman, dressed in sportswear and wearing a baseball cap, was walking her dog.

“A bully dog?”

Fang Xing glanced over, slightly puzzled.

After all, it was quite rare for a girl to have such a large bully dog.

It seemed that his gaze attracted the dog’s attention, as it immediately leapt forward, its face looking fiercely menacing.

For some reason, Fang Xing actually felt a terrifying sense of danger!

‘I, a meat refining martial artist with perfected Jade Skin, am finding a dog dangerous?’

Fang Xing felt a strange sensation in his heart.

“Ginger! Sit down!”

At that moment, the lady with the baseball cap commanded sharply. ─The bully dog obediently sat down, yet still looked alarmingly fierce.

“Sorry, Ginger’s in a bad mood today.” ─The baseball-capped lady gave an apologetic smile, “My name is Jing Xia. What’s yours, young man?”

“When I’m out, I usually don’t give out my name.” ─Fang Xing shook his head and continued running.

“Hehe, interesting young man.” ─Jing Xia looked at Fang Xing’s departing figure and touched her waist.

"Ring! Ring!"

The sudden jingle of a phone echoed as Jing Xia retrieved a mobile device from her waist. With just a few words into the call, her expression morphed into one of irritation: "Your whole squad can't even handle a single cultist? Pathetic! Bunch of rookies! Wait for me!"

She stashed the phone away and pressed her wristwatch.

"Whoosh!"

A hoverboard materialized from thin air, floating directly in front of her.

Jing Xia stepped onto it, smoothly gliding towards the city in the distance with effortless grace.

"Woof! Woof!"

The bully dog known as "Ginger" barked, its back writhing as flesh shifted, sprouting demonic wings. The creature took flight, trailing behind Jing Xia.

Not far away, Fang Xing observed the unfolding scene with a grim expression. "Daring to fly so blatantly… Are they not worried about traffic regulations? Only a powerful cultist or an insider would be so audacious! Even cultists wouldn't dare flaunt it in public, so are they official personnel? Could they be martial artists, mech pilots, supers, or beast tamers?"

Recalling the anomaly of the bully dog earlier, Fang Xing's face grew stern as he felt his pocket.

"I was a bit careless… This dog's nose is really sharp.'

'Life is unpredictable... who knows if tomorrow or an unexpected event will come first?'

'Fortunately… they didn't seem to suspect anything.'

Fang Xing thought it over, deciding to stick to his daily routine and head to school.

He was determined to work hard and achieve excellent results in the final exams!

'Even a small martial arts prodigy will attract more attention and investment, and having something good occasionally is still within acceptable limits!'

...

In the city center, an area suddenly erupted.

"Boom!"

A massive flare of fire erupted, with figures obscured within.

Some wore dark, nano-protective suits covering their bodies; others donned exoskeletons, wielding heavy firearms with a rugged demeanor.

Yet, they looked somewhat disheveled at this moment.

"It's the people from the 'Blood Descendants Cult'!"

A squad member shouted as he emitted an icy blast from his exoskeleton.

In an instant, all the flames extinguished, leaving barely a trace of smoke.

"We're doomed, what was supposed to be a secret capture has turned into an open battle... I'll have to write pages more in the report, and Big Sister will call us incompetents!"

The team member clad in a sleek black nanotech suit sounded desperate.

For them, facing the wrath of their leader seemed far more terrifying than having more paperwork.

"Roar! Roar!"

"It's coming!"

Amidst strange beastly roars, a creature burst out from the frozen wasteland.

It appeared humanoid but stood over three meters tall, its body covered with folds and mucus, with various heads "grafted" onto its chest and shoulders—some human, others from beasts like tigers and leopards.

It looked like a grotesque patchwork of flesh.

Just witnessing this display could deal a severe mental blow to those of weaker minds.

"It has the polluting features of a lower-class servant... An Aberration, huh? The Blood Descendants love these things."

The first speaker expressed his disdain clearly.

Damn cultists!

They were the blight of the Blue Star Federation!

Those extraterrestrial cults had the power to exploit 'Imaginary Space', allowing them to project power into human territories!

Though the Federation had set up defense lines, in general, the larger the entity, the harder it was to break through!

Like a fishing net, small fry could slip through easily, while the big ones were destined to be trapped!

Deploying servants was simple, yet they had little impact on humans.

When it came to the kinship tier, they pose a moderate threat, yet still manageable.

Beyond the human domain, what the extraterritorial evil deities yearn for is to descend into the human realm and commence a frenzied harvest!

Of course, such a descent is exceedingly challenging.

Thus, they settle for the next best thing, sending fragments of their power through their followers, 'corrupting' humans to become cultists, and then using these cultists to attempt to 'summon’ them into the world.

So far, not once has this approach succeeded. The closest they’ve come is through bloodthirsty and cruel methods, creating massacres and giving birth to 'Evil God Offspring'.

As a result, many researchers on Blue Star believe that these extraterritorial deities possess a certain level of rationality, though this often contradicts the chaotic and frenzied nature of their followers.

It seems that even evil deities must consort with madness; rationality is always temporary.

The 'Blood Descendants School' is but one of many such cults.

The extraterritorial evil deity revered by these cultists is codenamed the 'Endless Blood Sea', with its true name remaining a highly classified secret.

After all, such entities might cause corruption and downfall merely by the utterance of their names!

Even the deceased 'Star Devourer Kegurtureem' was no exception; the names recorded in textbooks are mere aliases.

To such entities, their existential concepts are dualistic, allowing contradictions to coexist. The boundary between life and death is extraordinarily blurred.

As put by the cultists, before their master, even death fades...

“What are you all doing up in the air?”

Just as the monstrosity of the 'Blood Descendants School' unleashed a howl, a flying hoverboard descended from the sky.

Swish!

A brilliant knife light flashed down, splitting the monster cleanly in half.

Bang!

A leather boot then stomped on one of the monster's heads, causing it to explode like a watermelon, splattering brains and blood over the ground.

Jing Xia looked up at his team members, exclaiming, “Useless! Absolutely useless! Not even a match for my dog!”

“Woof!”

Beside him, the bully dog’s mouth gaped wide open, expanding far beyond its head and body. Its massive maw resembled rubber, stretching endlessly, revealing countless serrated teeth that formed a vortex, devouring the monster's remaining flesh and blood...

The other team members witnessed this scene and fell into a stunned silence: “……”
