Chapter 93: Kiba Investigation
The sun hung low in the sky, casting long shadows over the narrow alleyways that snaked through another impoverished district of the slums.
Here, Kiba, probably the only one that genuinely wants to be the hero for a certain lady, was embarking on a journey with his only loyal companion, Akamaru.
Making their way through the labyrinthine streets, Kiba engaged in a conversation with his dog, relying on their unique bond to gather information.
"Keep your nose sharp, Akamaru," Kiba whispered, glancing around at the wary eyes peering at them from the ramshackle buildings. "Something's not right here."
Akamaru let out a low growl, his ears perked up as he scanned the surroundings. "I sense fear and unrest, Kiba. The people here seem troubled."
Kiba nodded, his brow furrowed in concern. "We need to find out what's going on. Let's start by asking around." He approached a group of locals who had been covertly watching their every move. "Hey, you there! Have you heard anything about a mysterious new group in the area?"
The bystanders exchanged glances, their faces filled with caution and trepidation.
Finally, a middle-aged man was forced to step forward by the others. Rubbing his hands together, the man laughed awkwardly, saying in a quivering voice. "Y-Yeah, I've heard whispers. They call themselves the Shin gang. Came out of nowhere a month ago, and they've been causing trouble ever since."
Huh? Shin? No, why is the name so weird? Kiba's interest was piqued. He leaned in, sniffing the man. "Tell me more. What do you know about them?"
"That..." The man felt uncomfortable with the duo sniffing him all over, but he didn't dare to back off. After looking around, his voice dropped to a hushed tone. "They've been growing in numbers rapidly, absorbing smaller gangs along the way. But here's the thing... once they take someone in, they never come back. It's like they vanish without a trace."
Kiba's eyes narrowed, his mind racing with possibilities. "That's suspicious. Do you have any idea where they take them?"
The man pointed towards a direction in the distance. "That warehouse over there. It's rumored to be their headquarters. But be careful, kid. The Shin gang isn't to be trifled with. Uh... well, none of the gangs here are good things."
"Yo, thanks. Let's go, Akamaru!" Ignoring the man's warning, Kiba set off towards the warehouse, which corresponded with the marked location on the map, his heart pounding with anticipation after confirming the map's validity.
"Easier than I thought. At least the employer is not pitting us this time." Kiba grinned, walking forward with confidence.
Akamaru sniffed the air, his nose twitching in search of any scent that might hint at danger.
Approaching the nondescript building, Kiba studied its exterior. The windows were boarded up, and the entrance seemed unguarded, but... something felt off.
"Akamaru, do you smell anything strange?"
Akamaru tilted his head, his nose twitching. "The guards, Kiba. I don't smell a lot of guards, if any at all. This is unlike the typical security of a gang's base. It's almost as if they want us to enter."
Kiba's suspicions grew stronger, but his curiosity got the better of him. "Let's take a closer look, but we'll need to be stealthy. Follow my lead. Tell me with the agreed paw signals if necessary, your barks will alert others."
Then, like predators, Kiba and Akamaru slipped into the shadows, their movements blending seamlessly with the fading daylight.
Seemingly undiscovered, the duo infiltrated the warehouse, expertly maneuvering through the darkened corridors of the warehouse with their senses on high alert.
Venturing into the heart of the building, Kiba's eyes widened in surprise, "Yo, what is going on?"
Instead of encountering any fierce gang members, they stumbled upon rows of empty crates and abandoned equipment. The warehouse appeared to be nothing more than a facade.
Kiba skeptically sniffed the air before whispering to Akamaru, "This doesn't add up, Akamaru. How can there be no one?"
Akamaru let out a soft growl, his eyes darting around the room. "Stay vigilant, Kiba. I smell a rotten smell in the air disturbing my senses. There's something hidden here, something we haven't discovered yet. My smell can't find them, but I'm sure-"
Suddenly, Akamaru's keen senses had picked up on something amiss, and before Kiba could comprehend what was happening, his faithful companion's barks warned him of the impending danger, "Arf! Arf! Arf!"
Reacting on instinct, Kiba immediately leaped backwards, just in time to narrowly avoid the earth-shattering eruption that followed.
Pow! The ground ruptured violently, and from the depths of the earth, a grotesque figure shot out!
Thump! When the figure landed not far from him, Kiba finally got a clear view of it.
It was a contorted human form, its pale body marred by strange tendrils and sarcomas. Its eyes were rolled back, revealing nothing but empty sockets that sent a chill down Kiba's spine. This was an abomination, a twisted fusion of humanity and monstrosity!
"Tch- A trap? Should've known, grrr..." Leaking a growl from his throat, Kiba steadied himself, his eyes narrowing as he assessed the unholy creature before him. "But what is this disgusting creature?"
As if offended by Kiba's comment, the creature lurched forward with alarming speed, its movements erratic and unsettling!
Without hesitation, Kiba struck out, his fist meeting the abomination's face- Bam!
The force of the blow sent it hurtling backward, tumbling across the ground and eventually crashing into crates.
Casually shaking his hand to relieve it, Kiba caught his breath, "Phew, easy, easy, but... it's skin is a bit tough, isn't it? And..."
Kiba couldn't help but notice the eerie similarity between the creature's pallid skin and that of the undead zombies he had encountered in a previous mission. The realization caused a flicker of unease to dance in his eyes.
However, he didn't have much time to think.
The abomination, though momentarily incapacitated, refused to stay down!
It actually clawed its way back up from the pile of crates, with sinister blood red tendrils bleeding into its vacant eyes!
Sensing the impending danger, Kiba acted swiftly and decisively.
He channeled his chakra through his body and unleashed his signature technique-
"Tunneling Fang!" Kiba roared, his voice resonating with primal energy.
In an instant, his body twisted into a whirlwind that drilled towards the abomination, the sheer force of his attack churning the earth beneath him!
Whoosh! Brrrrrr! When Kiba's attack connected, the abomination was thrown off balance, its body crushed against the ground, crumpling under the onslaught of the tornado drill!
Boom! The force of the impact sent shockwaves rippling through the ground, causing the warehouse floor to crack and splinter!
Then, with another surge of power, Kiba's drilling fang culminated into a final devastating blow, crushing the abomination's skull- Puff!
Woo... The spinning whirlwind gradually dispersed, leaving Kiba, his breath mingling with the stillness of the air as he stared at the lifeless body of the abomination laying motionless before him. The threat was extinguished - at least for the moment.
But just when Kiba was prepared to catch his breath-
"Arf! Arf! Arf!"
"Raaaauuugghhh..." A cacophony of grotesque sounds reverberated through the warehouse.
Rotten hands after rotten hands clawed their way out from the depths of the earth all around the warehouse.
The battle... was far from its end!
