Chapter 147: Why are you doing this to me…

[Seth's POV: ]

Facing Maydeath in the arena was in my expectancy but this soon...this final round seriously does have taken a lot of turns.

Watching the grinning face of the crimson-haired girl in front I couldn't help but sigh in pity for the boy who was taken away in a state with which people only can sympathize.

"You faked being spent so Arata could launch his final attack and finish the round sooner than later right? " I could tell from the stands that Maydeath was purely displaying an act of getting exhausted upon using the rock walls to defend herself.

I couldn't even begin to think how Arata would feel upon hearing how his crush was just playing around with him all the time.

"Tehee~Would I get punished~" Even if you tilt your head and smile like a little girl, it wouldn't matter since I have long gotten used to such temptations. Otherwise, I would have been the father of who knows how many.

Whatever her skills were, I need to wrap this up quickly. She's aware of my skills and that was highly disadvantageous. The use of potions was allowed but not artifacts so no surprises for her there.

But even so, I would beat her. There is no if or how, I just knew I would win this.

"Contestants, ready?" Since the barrier artifact has been attached to our wrists it was now time to begin the match.

There was a gleam in Maydeath's eyes which told me that she was not going to take this easy on me and I was totally down with it since I couldn't have asked for it any better.

The audience like got all silent once again. The wind paused around us and the only thing which broke this brief, stress-filled silence was the loud announcement of the referee.

"BEGIN!!"

The match referee disappeared from the site and soon I levitated backward to make some distance between us, with my hands now crossed behind my back.

Maydeath remained at her spot with confusion filling her eyes.

"Are we gonna stare at each other? Though I have no complaints, wouldn't it make this round draw? I don't want that."

Maydeath spoke, already preparing to strike me with the fireballs she enchanted above her head and two on either side without any chant.

Impressive.

I smirked at her but didn't reply. She soon fired those lava balls at me but the speed wasn't enough to cross my perception level so I easily moved out of the way.

"Heh~Caught you~" Maydeath smirked and I was well aware of the reason.

"Ah!"She exclaimed since the firewall she chanted just from above me was also dodged pretty fluently since I do not just rely on my eyes to figure out from where I could be targeted.

I focus on the concentration of soul energy and that was enough to provide me with the layout of this whole arena. simply making this place my domain.

It's a gradual process, something I have been preparing for since the morning. Inside this whole dome, I could sense if someone is using any spell or charging themselves with soul energy.

Of course, Maydeath was no exception to it.

I was levitating in mid-air when suddenly Maydeath's smirk widened and soon I would realize the reason for it.

"Come to me, darling~"

Suddenly an almost transparent wave of energy released out of Maydeath's raised hand before I felt myself getting pulled toward her. Gravitational magic? No, space magic?!

That was absurd to think that Maydeath could possess such a divine level of skillset but that was something to get concerned about for future

Currently, I was getting pulled toward my possible defeat at a high pace. Maydeath's other arm was covered with a vibrant crimson glow, ready to punch me hard and strong.

I couldn't use my Area interference since it would not only cancel out her spells but also leave me vulnerable for at least half a minute and that much time was enough for Maydeath to knock me out.

'No choice then... ' I braced myself before I crossed my arms over my chest as Myadeath's connected right over my arms.

*BHAAAM*

I was thrown meters away. I could already feel a bone or two in my arm broken by the sheer physical might blended with her spell. However, it wasn't enough to make me surrender as I got back on my feet.

I could already feel two immense amounts of soul energy radiating from two different sides of the stands. And I already could guess who these two individuals could be.

However, it was not the time to worry about them as I once again faced Maydeath who surprisingly was....crying?

"Why are you making me do this? Won't you lose this round for me, Seth? "

I could ask you the same Maydeath but surely I wouldn't say that to her.

Streams of tears were dripping down her cheeks with her eyes now turned almost emotionless. What's with her? Is she about to go on a rampage?

"What would it take for you to forfeit? "Maydeath raised her voice which came out a little stifled because of her choked breathing.

"I don't know about myself but surely this would take you out of the match... " As I said I raised my right arm and positioned my index finger pointing in her direction. There was a small orb of what seemed like nothing but air affixed at the tip of my index finger.

A spell I have been preparing since the time I entered the arena.

Maydeath frowned at that but nothing stopped me from releasing that attack at her.

It seemed she sensed how much soul energy is invested in that single attack since she soon clasped her hand like in prayer and spelled out some words before slamming both palms on the ground.

Four huge pillars erupted out of the ground with various runic symbols engraved over them.

'Damn....she has already achieved the Absolute Barrier... '

The four pillars can hold Elemental, Physical, Spiritual, and Soul-related attacks. That's why it's called an Absolute barrier since it could stop almost every spell in its track.

But not mine.

Maydeath's face paled as she saw the orb passing through all her barrier at a speed where she was unable to react and soon my attack hit the girl.

*Gasp*

The audience gasped and many even stood from their seat since Maydeath's back arched backward and with her mouth wide agape her eyes got rolled back.

*Thud*

With a small thud, her body fell down to the ground. Since her artifact didn't activate means she wasn't fatally in danger and since she is no longer able to stand up...

"Round two, Albeck Seth wins! Hundred points for Pristine Academy! "

...what was that bet again?
