Chapter 19: Chapter 19
Before George Stacy could respond, Holm had already opened the door and walked out. There wasn't time for further conversation as Venom was still urgently craving nourishment.
A moment later, in a convenience store near the police station, Holm sat in a corner, waiting for his instant noodles to be ready. Hidden inside his coat, Venom was grinning and happily munching on chocolate.
Venom's joy at finally getting his longed-for chocolate reminded Holm of an overexcited Husky...this one a bit dark, slightly ominous, and with a fierce, unsettling appearance upon closer look.
"Let me tell you in advance—if anyone shows up, you'll have to stop eating. So, hurry up," Holm warned Venom as he stirred his noodles.
"Yeah, yeah, I'm going to finish them quickly!" Venom responded, stuffing several more pieces of chocolate into his oversized, ferocious mouth until it bulged out.
Technically, Venom only needed to swallow chocolate to absorb its energy, without any need for chewing. However, once he discovered that chewing enhanced the taste, he adapted his eating style to savor each piece.
"Get ready to head back; someone's coming," Holm said, taking a final slurp of his noodles and giving Venom a quick tap through his coat.
Venom quickly sped up, extending several tentacles to unwrap and stuff all remaining chocolates into his mouth.
"Gulp!" The chocolate ball, now as large as a football, went down in one big swallow. Pressed for time, Venom had to forgo his usual savoring.
With his cravings satisfied, Venom quietly melded back into Holm's body. Relaxed and content, he was finally at peace, basking in the lingering taste.
"The human who invented chocolate was a genius. They couldn't have been ordinary like you," Venom sighed contentedly.
In Venom's view, most humans were weak, inferior creatures. If not for Holm's influence, they'd merely be snacks. Thus, the person who created chocolate surely must've been exceptional, like Holm, who had earned Venom's respect as a host.
Venom's comment made Holm chuckle, but before he could reply, Daisy walked in and took a seat beside him.
Though she remained silent, Holm noticed a flicker of curiosity in her eyes, as if she didn't quite understand why they had to meet here.
"Have you eaten? Want some instant noodles? They're actually pretty good," Holm asked, wiping his mouth.
Today, it wasn't just Venom who was hungry; Holm hadn't eaten much, either. He'd faced one ordeal after another, from the harrowing encounter in the forest to an intense conversation with Venom at home.
He'd planned to grab himself a snack when he went out to buy chocolate, but running into the lizard creature derailed his plans, ultimately landing him in the police station.
Reflecting on his day, Holm thought it was certainly eventful—more action in a single day than in an entire week.
"No, I've already eaten," Daisy replied, declining his offer. After a brief pause, she added, "So, we're here to discuss the new mission, right?"
Both had just received an update: SHIELD wanted them to conduct a thorough investigation of the Lizard incident due to another recent sighting of the creature.
After all, the appearance of a big monstrous creature like Lizard at Midtown High had initially been their assignment originally.
Holm had no objections to the mission. While it involved probing into strange phenomena, he found it preferable to the kind of overseas missions he'd previously undertaken, often dealing with unsavory activities.
Since teaming up with Daisy, Holm suspected that SHIELD was assigning them to more domestic, peculiar cases, likely to accommodate Daisy's presence. Cases like the recent lizard monster encounter, the morning's meteorite incident, and this latest creature sighting.
"Yes," Holm replied to Daisy's question, then continued, "What's your take on this lizard monster situation? Including the one at the school, we've now encountered two of these creatures."
"I was present during today's incident, so I can provide some firsthand details that didn't make it into the report or the news," Holm explained.
He then recounted the encounter with the roadblock lizard monster, describing how it had fractured his ribs and lumbar vertebrae, inflicting extreme pain.
Daisy listened attentively, taking notes and jotting down observations in a small notebook, likely to capture key points she considered crucial.
As Holm looked into her pure brown eyes, he couldn't help but wonder what had driven her to become an agent.
Lost in thought, Holm eventually fell silent. He took a sip of water to ease his throat, waiting for Daisy to process her thoughts.
After a few minutes, she put down her notebook, positioning it between them before sharing her insights.
"The school incident has become clearer," Daisy began. "The syringe found in Peter Parker's school bag and other evidence suggests he injected himself with a special serum, transforming into a deranged lizard creature."
"Following an autopsy of his body and investigation, we confirmed his cause of death was tied to that serum. It was likely an incomplete formula, causing heart failure and his sudden death."
"As for Spider-Woman, who's now wanted by the police, her fight with Parker probably sped up the serum's effects, leading to this outcome sooner."
"Based on available evidence, it seems both lizard creatures resulted from the same serum. However, compared to Parker, today's creature was more stable."
"When our team arrived, it was still very much alive, showing no signs of fatigue after the encounter."
Daisy suggested, "We should begin our investigation in the sewers where it appeared. New York's sewer system is vast and complex. Its emergence there probably isn't a coincidence."
