The Hogwarts Express was already waiting for them at Hogsmeade station on the twenty-third of December at eleven in the morning. The sleepy students struggled to drag their belongings to the train, sometimes stumbling or slipping on the ice. It was a day that was anything but Christmassy. The sun shone brightly, reflecting off the snow. There was a light frost, and many students' cheeks were starting to pinch a little red from the cold air.

- We'll be home already today. - Scott stretched out dreamily, carrying his bag with incredible ease.

- Yeah? I'd better get there first, because I'm going to fall off with this bloody suitcase. - Stiles, who was walking beside his friend, grunted, dragging his bag with him. Tim looked worriedly at his master's burden, sitting on his shoulder.

- Oh, Stilinski, don't tire yourself out. It won't be much of a loss, though. - Erika stretched out, for some reason, time after time she found herself next to him.

- You what, it will be such a terrible loss! - Tracy answered her friend and the girls laughed.

- Does life teach you anything? - asked Lydia, who appeared out of nowhere.

- Martin, are you going to babysit your stupid boyfriend for the rest of your life? You'll make a lovely couple. He'll get into trouble and you'll save him. That's a great story! Maybe in the future you'll get married and help the House elf clean up. - Jackson laughed nastily.

- Shut up! If you started with me, talk about me, why did you jump to Lydia? Don't you have anything else to say about me? - Stiles asked, turning sharply towards the Slytherins.

- They don't have the brains to come up with something that would actually offend me, don't worry. - Lydia waved them off and, taking Scott and Stiles under her arms, led them into the carriage. Once inside, the girl let go of her friends and disappeared into the crowd of people.

- Leeds! - Stilinski called out, but the girl was out of earshot. Shrugging their shoulders, the boys moved forward down the corridor.

When they found the compartment where Matt and Isaac had settled, they put their things in it, and Stiles was incredibly happy. Strangely enough, within half an hour the four Gryffindors were already sleeping like dead people. The boys had spent most of the morning marvelling at how the girls managed to look so chipper. At about half past one, the train braked abruptly and the boys immediately fell on top of each other.

- What Merlin, mother of God? - Stiles exclaimed, rubbing his bruised forehead.

- What's this stop? Is there supposed to be a stop? - Matt asked, looking out the window and rubbing his elbow.

- There shouldn't be. - Isaac stretched out, looking out the door. He wasn't the only one who was curious; there were about two dozen heads peering out into the corridor. One of them was light blond. - Mal, do you know what's wrong? - Lehi asked the girl.

- Someone's getting on the train. - replied Tate and disappeared into the compartment.

- What?' Leahy started to say, but then the train shook again and the boy flew into his compartment, falling to the floor.

- What the hell is this? - Stiles asked indignantly.

- Guys, we're not moving. We're just standing here. - Matt said, still staring out the window.

- Malia said that someone was getting on the train. - Leahy stretched out and sat down on the seat so he wouldn't end up lying on the floor again.

- And she was right. - Whispered Scott and pointed to the door. Through the glass the boys saw some sort of creature in a black robe and mask. It was apparently a man, for it was twitching nervously all the time. The next moment the creature turned to the boys and opened the door. After circling the boys with a glance, the man in the cloak took a few steps towards the window.

- Everyone's blood status. Immediately. - The man suddenly said. His voice was cold and unpleasant.

- What's that for? - Stiles asked, glaring defiantly at the guest. Tim and Cripp growled softly.

- I said immediately, Stilinski. - The man hissed, turning to face the boy with his whole body. - What is the blood status of each of you?

- If you know my last name, you know my status, so get out of here. - Angrily replied the boy, squinting his eyes.

- Cheeky puppy. Cheeky, smart and purebred. Perfect. - said the man for some reason. Next he turned to Isaac and Matt. - And you?

- I told you to fuck off. - Isaac said and squinted angrily too.

- What disrespect for your elders. Were we ever on a first-name basis? - The man asked. - Blood status. Now. - he said again.

- Go to hell, freak. I know who you are. - Stiles hissed, drawing the uninvited guest's attention back to himself.

- Do you? I don't think so. You're not stupid, Stiles, but you're not that stupid. - The man looked at him ironically.

- I didn't think you'd do it, Devi. - Stiles stretched out cheerfully for some reason. The man visibly tensed up after the name came out of the boy's mouth.

- Stilinski, shut your mouth or I'll have to make you. You two are really important, but not so important that I can't kill you now. - The man said, looking at Scott and Stiles.

- We're important? - Scott asked perplexed.

- Your blood status. - The man said again, looking at Matt and Isaac.

- Half-bloods. - Lehi replied, gritting his teeth in anger. The man immediately left the compartment. The boys looked at each other perplexed.

- Who was it? - Scott asked his best friend. - You said you knew who it was.

- Deucalion. - Stiles answered and clenched his fists.

- Deucalion? - McCall interjected in amazement. - But what was that all about?

- Some sort of census by blood status. - Stiles grinned wryly. - You've heard of Death Eaters? You've probably just seen one. - The boy replied and leaned back against the seat, staring up at the ceiling. Scott, Matt, and Isaac looked out the window in amazement. Five minutes later the train started again, and the appearance of the strange masked men became the most talked about topic for at least two more hours.

- I've got Dumbledore again. - Scott grudgingly stretched out, looking at the new chocolate frog card. It was already lunch time and the boys decided to have some food. And the food of choice was, naturally, sweets. Tim, by the way, did not turn his nose up at such food either, and now he was sniffing sweetly, pressing his paws to his inflated belly.

- I've got Flamel,' said Stiles, scratching the back of his head. - I think I already have one, so here, I'll give it to you. - Stilinski tossed the card to his best friend.

- Merlin again. - Lehi rolled his eyes and tossed the card into the junk pile.

- And I've got Bowman Wright.** - Matt stretched out. - But I have it. Does anyone need it?

- I do. I used to have one, but I lost it. - Stiles answered and took the card from his friend's hands. - Thank you.

- I've got an Engist from Woodcroft. - It's kind of rare, isn't it? I didn't have one.

- Me neither. - nodded Stilinski. The next moment there was a knock on the door. The guys turned round and saw someone they didn't expect to see.

- Theo? Didn't you have enough to fight about this morning? - Stiles sneered, releasing his hands at once.

- I just came because Malia asked me to. - Raken rolled his eyes. - She asked me to see if you were okay.

- What were you doing with the girls? And why didn't Malia come herself? - Stiles asked suspiciously.

- I came to the girls, again, to see if everyone was okay. But Malia can't come herself just because Lydia fell asleep on her lap. - Theo grinned.

- Since when did you become so thoughtful? - Stilinski asked with even more suspicion.

- 'Hey Stiles, where's all this hate coming from? - Theo smiled.

- 'Just roll with it. - Waved his hand at the boy. Shrugging his shoulders, Theo withdrew.

- Hey dude, what's up with you? - Scott asked worriedly.

- I don't like him. - The boy grimaced. - Let's go to the girls'.

- That's where Lydia sleeps. - Scott raised an eyebrow, smiling slightly.

- We'll be quiet. - Stiles winked at his friend. The boy's mood could sometimes change in the blink of an eye, but most of the time he remained cheerful and upbeat.

- Can I join you? - Scott asked quietly as the boys found their friends' compartment.

- Guys? - Allison raised her eyebrows in surprise. - Naturally. - The girl smiled immediately.

- Just keep it down. Leeds put us all to sleep last night, and she didn't sleep well. - Malia smiled. Lydia did sleep on her friend's lap.

- I thought Lydia Martin and caring were incompatible. - Isaac grinned and sat down next to Allison by the window.

All the boys had noticed long ago that when they spent time together, the five of them, or even all of them, their spirits always lifted. It was the same now. Ten minutes later they were laughing and joking, occasionally shushing each other when Lydia moved. After another twenty minutes, she woke up too. This, by the way, came out rather amusingly. For ten seconds the girl stretched and yawned sweetly, and then for another ten seconds she tried to understand where she was and why the boys were in the compartment with them. Soon Martin got involved in the general conversation and laughed with everyone. The boys spent three hours like that. Towards six o'clock, Lydia told everyone that it would be a good idea to separate into their compartments and get ready to disembark, as the train was about to arrive in London. And, naturally, the girl was right. At exactly six o'clock the Hogwarts Express pulled up to platform 9 ¾.

With an incredible humour, noise and rumbling students began to descend to the platform. Here and there were shouts of joy from children and their parents, hugs and laughter everywhere. Walking along with the girls, Scott and Stiles looked for their parents with their eyes.

- Boys! - Melissa exclaimed, standing near the third carriage. Next to her, of course, were John and Claudia, smiling their thirty-two smiles.

- Mum! Dad! Melissa! - Stiles exclaimed and ran at full speed to his parents. Scott took one last look at his friends and smiled happily, then ran after them.

- My darlings, how are you? - Claudia asked, hugging the boys one by one.

- Very well! - exclaimed Stiles. - Only some idiots came by on the way, but it's still great! - said Stiles and hugged his mother again.

- Scott, honey, who was there? - Melissa asked, hugging her son.

- We'll tell you later. - Stiles waved his hand. - Can you believe we did so many cool things last night! We did stories and fortune-telling and everything! - chirped Stiles, gesticulating and smiling. The whole group moved towards the exit of the platform.

The three girls who had been standing nearby the whole time looked at them.

- That's so sweet. - Allison said, smiling.

- Where are the parents? - Malia frowned.

- Lydia!' came from nearby. The girls turned round and saw a stately young woman. Lydia smiled goodbye to her friends and walked towards her mother.

- Mum! - the girl smiled and hugged her mother. They always had a good relationship, even though from the outside it sometimes seemed as if it was not.

- Honey, how was the road? - Natalie asked, smiling warmly at her daughter.

- It's good. And fun. - Lydia smiled slightly at her recent memories. Taking her mother under her arm, the girl moved leisurely towards the platform exit.

- Malia! - came a child's squeal. The next moment something small but very fast flew into the girl. Allison raised her eyebrows in surprise at the sight before her.

- Livy! I didn't think you'd come. - Tate smiled and hugged her sister. - Allison, I'd like you to meet Livy. But she prefers to be called by her full name. - Tate smiled.

- Nice to meet you, Olivia, I'm Allison, your sister's friend. - Allison shook the tiny hand of the younger Tate with ostentatious importance. The little girl was no more than five, but she was already looking around with such understanding that it was as if she were a grown-up.

- Ollie, where did you run off to! - exclaimed a woman who came out of the crowd. She was beautiful. The wrinkles around her eyes made it clear that she smiled and laughed a lot. 'Just like my father,' Allison thought. - Malia, honey, it's so good to see you! - said the woman and rushed to hug her eldest daughter.

- Me too, mum! - said the girl and smiled. - Where's Daddy? - asked the girl, looking round in surprise.

- Already here! - exclaimed the man who had crept up from behind. Abruptly hugging his daughter from behind, the man began to tickle Malia. The girl, laughing, kicked, but still not hard. Allison watched it all with a warm smile. They used to have it like this too. When Mum was alive. Malia must have noticed that her friend was nowhere near here, because she gently released herself from her father's embrace and walked over to Argent.

- And this is Allison. - The girl said and raised her hands solemnly.

- It's very nice to meet you Allison, we know quite a bit about you. - smiled at the woman. Allison, more out of habit, extended her hand for a handshake. Miss Tate, with a sceptical glance at the outstretched limb, pulled it and hugged the girl tightly. From such a surprise Argent was at first confused, and then hugged the woman back as tightly as she could. Miss Tate really did remind her of her mother.

- Allison. - came from nearby. Turning around sharply, the girl saw her father. He was standing there, smiling warmly and holding out his arms. The girl immediately threw herself into his arms, smiling happily.

- Daddy, I'm so happy! - exclaimed the girl, unable to get away from her father. - This is Malia and her family. I wrote to you about her. - said the girl, pointing to her friend.

- Nice to meet you, Malia, Mr and Mrs Tate. - Chris nodded to everyone in turn. It was only a moment later that he noticed something stirring at the feet of his daughter's friend. - Who are you? - Argent smiled warmly.

- Olivia. - The girl stretched out importantly, immediately coming out from behind her sister's legs.

- Nice to meet you, Olivia, I'm Chris. - Also important, trying to hide a smile, replied the elder Argent

- Nice to meet you, Mr Argent. - stretched out the little girl. Laughing merrily, the man put his arm around his daughter's shoulders.

- I'm sorry, but we have to go. It was really nice to meet you. See you in a fortnight. - Chris smiled. Allison gave Malia one last hug and followed her father.

- Good girl. - Mrs Tate smiled, taking Olivia's hand. - Did you miss me? - The woman asked and walked away, asking her daughter everything she could think of. Jane, by the way, enjoyed Olivia's company - the crypter stayed on her shoulder all the way home.
