chapter 8
Chapter 8. Apohjuice
What is a trait? What is divinity? In the game, it was just a kind of code that manipulated formulas and data within the game, but now that it has become reality, I don’t know what mechanism traits and divinity operate on.
But, perhaps traits and divinity are similar. A kind of transcendent, mysterious force that produces results without understanding the principles.
If so, a trait that permanently benefits the entire world upon acquisition could, in some sense, be considered an entity with infinite divine power.
「Applying 『Fairy Transformation』 as it is, the level of 《Nectar Spring》 is too high.」
No, infinite divine power, my foot.
I wonder what level is then. And ‘score’. By what criteria are they calculated?
「As a price for creating [Fairy of Nectar Spring], the level of 《Nectar Spring》 will drop.」
What? No. Then the ecosystem will be ruined. If the ecosystem is going to be ruined…
“Can I substitute the price by offering the creatures in my ecosystem?”
The angel urgently replied, knowing it was important.
“If you offer creatures equivalent to 926 points of 〈Life〉, it is possible.”
The score is close to 1,600 now, so roughly 75% of the world? The amount of life points needed to reach level 4.
“Instead of offering any creatures randomly, can you make it so that individuals from all regions and all species die evenly?”
“That is possible if you consume all the 〈Divinity〉 you currently have and an additional 233 points of 〈Life〉.”
“Alright. Do it that way.”
Squelch.
The deepest part of Nectar Spring split open as if it had grown a mouth.
Then, as if inhaling, it swallowed all the water, jelly, pudding, gummies, gels, and toppings in the Nectar Oasis, and with formidable suction power, it also swallowed fish, frogs, rock jellies, livestock and creatures from the opposing world, and even insects, all into the maw at the center of the ecosystem.
Squirm─! Squirm─! Squirm─!
It greedily sucked in the creatures and formed a body. The fragment of the god was no lie, as a mysterious form of a god briefly appeared, then it was shaped into the form of a fairy I imagined.
Pop!
It opened a large eye made of a single jelly-like crystal and opened its mouth wide. Then it stretched its tentacles and cilia towards the sky.
It was an amorphous entity made entirely of agar-like substances such as jelly, pudding, and gel, with no distinction between inside and outside.
「[Fairy of Nectar Spring] has been created.」
As it devoured a vast amount of life, the Fairy of Nectar Spring pulsated with life force, greedily swallowing the surrounding magic, water, and creatures with its tentacles and mouth, then spat out thick nectar.
Then it shouted in a language I could understand.
【Yaaah! Praise be to the creator who shaped meeeee!】
That majestic figure, endlessly creating life and producing the essence of life infinitely…
「What should we name the [Fairy of the Nectar Spring]?」
“Abhojuth.”
It’s a name that perfectly fits the fairy of my world.
“It sounds more like a name suited for a twisted ancient being rather than a fairy.”
Hearing that from something that isn’t even angelic is quite refreshing.
「Created [Abhojuth].」
「Abhojuth 〈Fairy of the Nectar Spring〉
Stamina LV.2: 350
Combat LV.0: 27
Dexterity LV.0: 27
Intelligence LV.0: 17
Charm LV.0: 68
Spirit LV.0: 46
Authority LV.3: 514
Magic LV.1: 110
Total Individual Score LV.1: 1,159」
Just like my world, this guy also had extremely polarized stats.
In the game, the average stat for a perfectly ordinary human was 100.
Well, since it’s a fantasy world, it can keep getting stronger, and intelligence is such a broad metric that having an intelligence of 200 doesn’t mean it’s twice as smart as an ordinary human…
Anyway, this guy has the weight of 3.5 people.
Combat power equivalent to a small dog at best.
Dexterity worse than a chicken.
Intelligence better than a mutt but worse than a Border Collie.
Charm equivalent to a somewhat unattractive human (I remember this included concepts like terrifying appearance, charisma, and presence).
Fragile spirit.
And overwhelming authority.
Of course, that overwhelming authority is obvious.
“Abhojuth. Produce nectar.”
【Yesssssss, my goddddddd!】
Should I say this guy is a bit noisy? His voice is very shaky and bizarre.
Apohjus opened its eyes and mouth wide, absorbing all the magic it could, and then spewed out nectar through the tentacles within its body.
Now, it could supply nectar directly to the upper layers through the tentacles extending from the bottom of the lake, not just the lakebed.
This was great news for the jellies in the upper layers, who had only been able to consume diluted nectar due to the heavy accumulation at the bottom.
But the function of those tentacles was not limited to that. The tentacles extending beyond the water surface absorbed air, water, heat, and light, emitting them through the eyes at the bottom, and regularly stirred the tentacles within the lake to create something like a current.
In other words, it mixed all the water, air, nectar, light, and heat within the lake. Thanks to this, the environment within the Nectar Oasis, which had been difficult to live in from the upper layers to the middle layers, lower layers, and the bottom, became uniform, allowing the creatures of the oasis to obtain the elements they needed most.
That’s not all. Apohjus also dredged the sand accumulated at the bottom through the tentacles extending below the bottom, and appropriately adjusted the positions of corals, descending even deeper.
Like a landscaper managing an aquarium, Apohjus could beautifully and balancedly manage the ecosystem within the Nectar Oasis.
As a result, the life within the oasis exploded madly.
The proliferating creatures exhaled more water and magic, and Apohjus drank the magic and produced more nectar. Due to the overgrowth of Sun Topping caused by the high magic, the lake shone brilliantly, almost appearing to boil.
The jellies, having all the elements necessary for survival, dug madly into the bedrock, and Apohjus extended more tentacles to constantly adjust the ever-changing environment of the Nectar Oasis.
「[Nectar Spring] level has increased.」
Now at level 5, the Nectar Spring had a diameter of about 3 km and a maximum depth of 60 meters. However, the average depth had become much deeper, making it much wider than just the diameter.
The Nectar Spring had expanded so much that it had almost devoured the rocky desert I initially received, and if it expanded a little more, it would swallow the freshwater lake of the Oswald Desert as well.
Then let it swallow it. Nectar is not a pollutant, and it would be good if the creatures of the freshwater lake could consume the diluted nectar.
「[Nectar Spring] level has increased.」
At level 6, the Nectar Oasis, which had doubled in size, was now divided into the area originally connected to the freshwater layer and the dense nectar area managed by Apohjus.
The Oswald Desert and my desert were also connected as all the rocks and sand that existed between them were destroyed, and the destroyed rocks and sand were all turned into the shells of other creatures or the remnants of such shells.
Now there was no Oswald Desert or Oswald Oasis. There was only the Dessert Desert and the Nectar Swamp above it.
“Poor Oswald, not even leaving a name behind.”
“The first to die is always like that.”
Just watching this place would naturally yield 〈Life〉 points. Despite consuming a large number of creatures to create Apohjus, the ecosystem had become even healthier.
The fish and frogs that lived in the freshwater also evolved, growing larger or becoming smaller and faster, competing for survival with the newly introduced jellies and puddings due to the influx of the ultra-nutritious substance called nectar.
Without me having to intervene, or rather, if I did intervene, it seemed the balance would be disrupted quickly.
【Oh my God! Am I doing well?】
“You’re doing great. You’re really doing well.”
【Thank you!】
It wasn’t just a compliment; it was truly a competent manager. I prefer an ecosystem that maintains itself rather than one that collapses without the intervention of intelligent beings.
“You have a very firm preference. Is it okay that Apohjus is an intelligent being?”
“As long as it’s at the level of a dolphin, it’s fine. I dislike intelligent beings that create civilizations and conflicts.”
“Wow.”
“In short, I quite like the civilization of ants.”
“Considering that some dolphins are smarter than humans with borderline intelligence, you just don’t like humans.”
That’s right. I might like a civilization built by kind and benevolent high-intelligence organisms.
“The world’s ‘Mystery’ score has exceeded 100 points and has risen to level 1. You can now choose a new trait.”
“The world’s ‘Faith’ score has exceeded 100 points and has risen to level 1.”
Ah. These two scores have also increased because of the Aphojus.
Since it’s an intelligent being and a fairy belonging to my world, it seems to have produced some of the absorbed magic as ‘Mystery’ and ‘Faith’ resources instead of pure nectar and provided them to me.
For the ‘Mystery’ trait, I chose ‘Magic Pressure Increase’. It’s a minor trait that increases the magic of the entire world. It benefits even when the opponent uses magic, but anyway, all the magic in my world is being devoured by the Aphojus, so whatever.
There are no traits to choose from for ‘Faith’. It was like that even when I played the game.
However, if the faith level and score are high, the total amount of divine power, recovery power, and potency that the player can use increases.
In other words, with just this one Aphojus, I can intervene more actively and boldly in my ecosystem.
Fairies are good. It wouldn’t hurt to have one in the ecosystem.
“No… This is not the fairy that blesses the civilization I wanted…”
The angel shook his head repeatedly as if to say it wasn’t something, but this guy just doesn’t know how to play the game.
To manage the lives that were massively consumed to create the Aphojus, and to utilize the divine power that is still rising, I very diligently accelerated the time within the world, improved the ones that were about to go extinct but necessary for the ecosystem, and introduced predators and carnivores that eat the ones that increased but weren’t much needed in the ecosystem.
How engrossed was I? A touching voice was heard.
“The world’s ‘Life’ score has exceeded 1,945 points and has risen to level 5. You can now choose a new trait.”
Despite consuming a large number of living beings, it surpassed the original. I looked at the angel, meaning to show me the trait cards.
The angel took out three trait cards with a subtle expression.
“Hmm… In the current situation, this is what I can recommend.”
‘(Choice) Intelligence: The intelligence of one species increases enough to form a civilization. If the species already has high intelligence, its intelligence further increases.’
‘(Choice) Strength Enhancement: The strength of one species increases.’
‘(Nectar Jelly) Vigorous Metabolism 2: The life activities of living beings become faster. Energy consumption increases.’
“Vigorous Metabolism 2.”
“You have no hesitation.”
“It’s not that I have no hesitation, it’s that there were no options.”
“Pardon?”
I spoke common sense to the angel’s question.
“Intelligence is meaningless right now. I’m using all the resources of the world to achieve harmony in the ecosystem, so what’s the point of getting smarter? Even if intelligent beings emerge now, they can’t build a civilization. That stage is over.
The same goes for strength enhancement. Enhancing the strength of one species means, conversely, weakening the strength of all other species. Unless I’m a player who focuses on raising just one species, it’s an option I can’t choose as long as I’m focusing on the harmony of the ecosystem.”
So, I had no choice but to increase the metabolism of the nectar jelly. I wasn’t too happy about it, but there were no other options.
Well, it’s a common occurrence when building extreme ecosystems, so I have no complaints.
“Hmm. I see. Indeed, giving it such traits itself is a bit problematic. Hmm.”
Now that Apjuice will take care of my world, should I take a look at this community thing? I want to add more types of fish to live in the Taimon River and freshwater areas.
As soon as I made up my mind, an internet-like screen appeared right in front of me.
I naturally manipulated the screen as if I were holding a non-existent mouse and keyboard.
I hope I can find some fresh ones.
