The Crazy Adventures of Kevin

CHAPTER THIRTY-FOUR: ALIEN BLOODLINE.

As the duo drove away from the scene, Gwen pondered on all that had happened and couldn’t help but ask a question.

“Grandpa Max doesn’t have anything to do with this, does he?” Gwen asked as she looked through her window and back at Kevin for some reassurance.

“No,” Kevin answered plainly while keeping his eyes on the road.

“Where do you think he got it?” Gwen asked this time with a hint of urgency.

“He doesn’t act like a plumber. He’s probably a plumber’s kid,” Kevin answered without giving it much thought.

“Why would a policeman give his son a badge?” Gwen asked, enjoying the flow of ideas bouncing back and forth between them, maybe she was right about Kevin.

“To keep real plumbers from arresting them for interplanetary trespass,” Kevin explained like it was common knowledge.

Turning to Gwen to explain further since he figured he was probably the only one in their team who dabbled deeply into alien tech and history as a kid, he continued,

“A badge is better than a passport.”

“I’m not following,” Gwen answered, she now had confirmation in her worries about having someone who knew more than they did about alien interrelations and tech.

“Heatblast Jr is probably part human. Humans with alien ancestors are actually pretty common. Most of them have superpowers,” Kevin answered.

“Common?” Gwen asked with folded arms.

“Well, yeah. That’s what you are. You get your powers through your grandpa or grand…” Kevin paused to look at Gwen’s blank expression.

“I thought you knew,” Kevin said as a matter of fact.

With a scoff, Gwen answered, “I get my powers from magic talismans and books.”

I don’t know if it’s because of my cultivation or that I have been exposed to great power on planet Sylvie. But I can see that she is one giant ball of mana, her output is very poor but what she has in the tank is no joke, at least for humans,’ Kevin thought to himself after looking at Gwen for a second that seemed too long which caused a slight blush on Gwen’s face.

“Yeah right. Haha, Magic,” Kevin laughed.

“But the Sheriff thinks I set all the fires,” Heatblast Jr explained to Kevin in his base form.

“I don’t. For one thing, I know no fire could have cut this building in half,” Ben replied when he heard a car pull up near them.

“Because you haven’t seen a fire that can cut, it doesn’t mean fire can’t do this. But you’re right, this isn’t normal,” Kevin said out loud as he walked out of the parked car.

“I see you brought Heatblast Jr who wanted to confirm his kills tonight, haha,” Kevin laughed as he looked at the brown-skinned boy near Ben.

“How did you know?” The boy said as he turned into Heatblast instantly.

“Surely you are not stupid enough to think you can…” Kevin said as he walked closer to Heatblast Jr but Ben simply chipped off what seemed to be armour on the shoulder of Heatblast Jr which caused Heatblast Jr to exclaim in pain.

“That wasn’t painful and you shouldn’t fight him, you’d lose. As much as you and I don’t agree with him it’s better not to go there, he might not hold back as I did,” Ben answered while turning away which only added salt to injury rather than comfort.

“This is what I saw when I was flying over the cornfield,” Ben said as he crouched down to draw with the piece of Heatblast Jr's armour. Kevin, Gwen and Heatblast Jr soon followed to see what Ben wanted to show them.

“It’s not exact but it looks like this,” Ben said as he made a doodle in the sand of what he saw in the sky.

Wow, he even had the time to observe the surroundings while tussling with this firecracker. I guess he hasn’t lost his touch,’ Kevin thought to himself.

“Those aren’t roads burned through the cornfields,” Ben said then paused to create a little tension.

“They are crop circles,” Ben concluded.

Yeah, I could sense a lot of life energy not too far from here so he’s right, something’s up,’ Kevin thought.

“Like those things aliens like to leave around to find their way around,” Heatblast Jr quipped.

“More like those things farmers leave to fool city folk,” Kevin teased with a wide grin on his face.

Man, Khan’s jeers are really rubbing off on me. I can’t just go without being sarcastic to does deserving… deserving, damn,’ Kevin thought to himself as he shrugged in acceptance of his new habit.

“It’s not like we don’t know a bunch of aliens,” Ben said as he looked back at Gwen wearing a serious expression and Kevin with his aloof and smiling expression.

“Also moot. I don’t think these are crop circles. I think they are circuit boards,” Gwen added.

“Not bad. You’ll make a good engineering student. For you, I’ll give you with a twenty per cent discount off the usual price. Not a bad deal if you ask me,” Kevin smirked at Gwen.

“Oh, even for me you can’t teach for free?” Gwen smiled back.

“It’s a business, not a charity,” Kevin answered plainly.

“How are we doing this again?’ Heatblast Jr asked Gwen as he walked on pink platforms that made it seem like they were walking in the air.

“Magic,” Gwen answered.

“It is not magic,” Kevin answered with a frown.

“Oh right, Kevin says I’ve got superpowers because of my alien bloodline,” Gwen said while directing her gaze to Heatblast Jr.

“Huh?” Asked a confused Ben.

“Could you guys concentrate on what’s important?” Heatblast Jr complained.

“You don’t think what we are standing on is important?” Kevin said as all gazes were on the platform that enabled them to walk so high in the air.

“Stop teasing him, Kevin,” Gwen pleaded.

“We are high enough to see,” Gwen said as they looked ahead and could see the circuit boards spread out in the cornfields.

NEXT CHAPTER PREVIEW:

The group walked out of their cover now to check things out properly, snow had started falling immediately and was pilling up on the floor. The Pyronite crouched to feel the snow on the floor but the snow in the path of his fingers melted. Kevin took that opportunity to lay another joke on the Pyronite by rubbing his hands over the Pyronites head that had a ball of flame as its hair.

“Cut it out!” The Pyronite exclaimed.

“My bad, it's cold out here. Learn to share, haha.” Kevin joked.
