The Disruptor: One Piece

Chapter 11: Parting Paths, A Pirate’s Promise.

The evening was filled with the sound of clinking cups and hearty laughter as Roger, Whitebeard, Kozuki Oden, and I sat around on a giant mushroom. The sea breeze gentle, carrying with it the scent of salt and adventure.

The two legends of the seas were in high spirits, sharing stories and memories of their long journeys. Oden and I sat quietly at first, taking in the sheer presence of these men who had shaped the seas we sailed.

Roger took a deep swig from his cup, wiped his mouth, and turned to Whitebeard. His face grew more serious, though the smile never left his lips. "Whitebeard, there's something I've been meaning to talk to you about," Roger began, his voice lower, but still filled with his usual confidence.

Whitebeard raised an eyebrow, pausing mid-drink. "Oh? And what might that be?" he asked, intrigued. Roger reached into his coat, pulling out a piece of parchment. A Poneglyph rubbing he had copied during our journey. He unrolled it, laying it on the table in front of us.

Oden leaned in, eyes widening as he saw the ancient script, something few outside of Wano could read.

"I've been collecting these, Whitebeard," Roger continued. "Poneglyphs. These indestructible stone blocks hold the key to the location of the last island no one has yet found. It's what I'm after, the truth that's been buried."

Whitebeard leaned back, his expression darkening slightly. "The Last Island? So, you're really planning on digging into that, huh?"

"Yes," Roger said firmly and I think this guy here can help us" Roger gestured to Oden, who was still staring at the Poneglyph print in awe.

Oden, still processing the information, looked up. "This... this writing. It's the language passed down in our Kozuki clan.

I never thought I'd see something like this outside of Wano."

Roger smiled and looked back at Whitebeard. "I need him, Newgate. I need Oden to read these Poneglyphs and guide me to the last island. Raftel. We're so close, but without someone who can read this, it'll all be impossible."

Whitebeard's expression darkened further. He set his cup down with a heavy thud. "Roger," he said slowly, his voice carrying a weight of warning. "Are you trying to take one of my family away from me?"

Before anyone could react, Whitebeard's massive hand punched the air, and with a pulse of power, the very atmosphere around us began to crack, his Shock-Shock Fruit distorting the air.

The force of it sent tremors through the ground beneath us, the trees swaying violently. "Are you out of your damn mind, Roger? You know how I feel about my family right."

Roger didn't flinch, even as the power surged around us. Instead, to everyone's shock, he bowed. "Please, Whitebeard," Roger said, his voice humble for the first time I'd ever heard it. "I'm begging you. Let me borrow Oden for one year. Just one. After that, I'll return him to you, I swear it."

Whitebeard's eyes narrowed, the tension thick in the air. Oden, watching all of this unfold, scratched his head, clearly conflicted, stepping forward. "Whitebeard, I want to go with Roger."

Whitebeard growled, his voice low and dangerous. "Oden, you idiot, do you know what you're asking?". His face showed his mood.

"He looks pissed" came Odens voice.

Whitebeard slammed his hand on the table, shattering it. "Of course I'm pissed, you fool! We're family."

Just when it seemed like the conversation was about to settle, I stepped forward. "Wait!" I called out, causing everyone to turn towards me. My heart pounded in my chest, but I knew I had to say it. "How about I stay with Whitebeard in exchange?"

The silence that followed was deafening. Roger, Rayleigh, Gaban, and the rest of the crew looked at me like I had just lost my mind.

"What are you talking about, little brat?" Rayleigh finally said, his voice sharp.

Gaban shook his head, rubbing his temples. "You'd better think carefully about this, Thomas. We're talking about a journey that will change the world."

I met their gazes with determination. "I won't go on this journey with you, Captain. I'm going to find that last island on my own, with my own crew, one that'll be stronger than you oldies ever were!"

For a moment, there was stunned silence, and then Roger's booming laughter filled the air. "Ahahaha! You've got guts, kid." he roared, slapping his knee. The rest of the crew soon followed, their laughter echoing across the island.

But Rayleigh's eyes were narrowed, watching me closely, and Gaban muttered a curse under his breath. "This brat's got ambition," he said with a smirk, though I could see the worry in his eyes.

Their reaction gave Whitebeard the idea about my importance in Roger's crew. Whitebeard, crossed his arms and stared me down. "And what value do you have kid?" he asked, his voice serious.

I looked back at him and narrowed my eyes, then let loose my level (Intermediate) Conqueror's Haki.

For a moment, Whitebeard studied me, and then he grinned. "Fine, kid. If you've got the guts to make that kind of offer, I'll take you up on it."

Roger's laughter died down, and he gave me a serious nod. "You've made your choice, Thomas. I hope you're ready for it."

"Just take care of your health" I said. "My apprenticeship on your ship end here, Thank you for taking me in you all." I said bowing my head towards them.

They all remained silent and turned around, this time Oden and his family joining them.

I knew how they feel right now, I'm the same as them but we'll stay strong.

And just like that, my path was set. While Oden would join Roger on the journey to Raftel, I would stay behind with Whitebeard's crew, learning from one of the greatest pirates to ever sail the seas.

It's been several months and I've been successfully integrated in the Whitebeard Pirates. Enjoying my days with everybody and fighting alongside them.

I accepted Whitebeard's offer and started calling him pop's like others. I rejected the offer to be second division commander saying that it's Oden's place.

I haven't used my skills I got from my three wishes yet and won't be using them anytime soon. We had almost continuous rivalry with Beasts Pirates.

Nearly a year later news of Roger reaching Raftel came and he gained the title of King of the Pirates. Some months later he came to Sphinx to meet Whitebeard and kept talking and drinking for hours.

When Roger was about to leave he came to me and we had a hearty chat. I was almost 10 years old. "You won't forget me right? Old Man"

"Ha..haa..ha! No way I'm going to forget you, you snot nosed brat." With this we parted ways.
