Chapter 220
In front of the Lair of the Heavenly Dragon, I explained to Gishta about the materials she needed.
“There’s a crystal called Fairy’s Song. It’s like a gem made by the fairy race living in the intermediate realm.”
“Gems? Are they expensive?”
“You can’t really put a price on it. It’s like the royal jelly bees gather.”
“Hm, can we get some if I ask?”
“Well, fairies are a peaceful race, so they might just give it to you if you visit, but the problem is their location. It’s so rare that finding it is…”
“Fairies? They live beyond the eastern icy wasteland in a fragrant meadow.”
The Commander jumped into our conversation.
“Really? That’s so typical of the intermediate realm. How long would it take?”
“With what you rode here, it would probably take about a month.”
“That’s quite a while.”
Gishta snapped her fingers.
“Hey, Dragon. If we fly together, we could get there in a day. What do you think?”
“Fly, huh? That wouldn’t take much time, but why should I help…”
“You took a whole bunch of our supplies! What kind of brother does that? Come on, let’s go right away!”
With a friendly grin, Gishta grabbed the Commander’s neck and hopped onto his back. He shook his head left and right.
“Don’t make me laugh. Do you think I would waste the mana of the Holy Mother on ferrying a human?”
“For the sake of keeping Mother’s promise! Besides, it’s just me you need to carry. Lars, you stay here. Fast flying would be tough for you anyway.”
“Yeah, I almost died earlier.”
“Haha! Just leave it to me! Now, off we go, off we go!”
Gishta cheerfully kicked the Commander in the side. Reluctantly, he flapped his wings and took off into the air.
Are they really going to return immediately?
Gishta’s initiative always leaves me in awe.
“Be careful!”
“Okay!”
I tossed her a side bag filled with potions for emergencies. As soon as Gishta strapped the bag around her waist, the Commander took off with a whoosh! He soared through the clouds in an instant.
“Hm.”
It would probably take Gishta about two to three days to return.
In the meantime, I decided to treat the Heavenly Dragon while I waited.
*
—Ugh… very nice.
I gave the dragon a massage alongside some physical therapy. Climbing onto his back and stepping around, he seemed satisfied, rumbling as he lay flat on the ground.
“Seems you’ve had a bad posture from sleeping too long up north. Can you feel the curvature in your spine here? You might slip a disc, so do some stretching frequently.”
—I understand. Press there a bit more.
As I stepped firmly near his wing bones, the Heavenly Dragon pivoted to a new topic.
—Lars Gothberg. Do you believe in fate?
“Fate? Nope, I don’t believe in it.”
—You have strong conviction.
“Yeah, I have seen many times how the result changes based on my own choices.”
—Oh, it is rare for a human to recognize a timeline.
“Can you see fate, Heavenly Dragon?”
—I cannot see it. But among the ancient dragons, there are those who can. The one who created time is Shrount; the one who governs it is Torm.
“Are they your friends?”
—More like ill-fated acquaintances.
The dragon snorted disinterestedly.
—You are a mysterious human. It is as if you know which direction your most suitable timeline lies and act accordingly. From what I have observed, that has been the case.
“Haha, you flatter me.”
—Defining the direction of a timeline is not so difficult. Let alone with the frail body of a human. It is akin to navigating a massive ship with a mere toy paddle in a vast ocean.
“I do feel it’s practically impossible.”
Explaining just how close I came to numerous bad endings would be a tiring endeavor.
—There were humans who recognized such forms yet could not make a choice. In that regard, you might be considered special.
“Wait? You mean there are others who can see the timelines?”
The dragon remained silent, possibly recalling its principle of looking from above and not interfering.
Maybe it enjoyed our idle chat. Perhaps it got carried away with the massage and relaxed a little too much.
“Then could I bring up one problem?”
—What is it?
“If I want to reconnect with someone I once called off, what would be the best excuse?”
The dragon snorted again.
—Do you think that’s a subject I would know about?
“You’re the mother of all those dragons, after all.”
—Ancient dragons can engage in self-reproduction.
“I didn’t know that.”
Evidently, Acella is fully focused on internal affairs and hasn’t engaged in any external actions.
It would have been some time now, so maybe she wouldn’t be too angry anymore?
So, I thought if there’s a chance, I could discuss things with her.
Well, considering the demon king’s army hasn’t even begun waging war yet, I thought it might still be early.
Considering Acella’s temperament, I could inadvertently create trouble for Lishe and Tanya.
It seemed sensible to refrain from any actions until everything’s over.
—Have confidence in your choice.
The dragon spoke like that.
Confidence.
Although it was more of a cheer than advice, it was quite helpful.
Gishta returned from the land of fairies in just two days, plopping down the crystal.
“Lars, is this it? It’s enough, right?”
“She brought a whole sack full. This is way too much. Did the fairies not catch on?”
“They kept insisting I take more. They were so nice!”
I wonder if we inconvenienced those peaceful fairy folk.
Thanks to Gishta, we now have enough materials. I poured mana onto the ground, swiftly drawing the circle, placing the stabilizer and the Fairy’s Song crystal on top.
“Now, the circle needed for the Lucid Dream Potion is… four? This really is a top-tier potion.”
The complexity of potions created by synthesis demands higher tier spells.
While it isn’t as complex as the intricate shapes of magic, a 4th tier circle packs considerable difficulty. The gliding potion required a 2nd tier. The elixir might demand a 5th or higher.
Thinking about it, I got used to the spell usage since learning from Seymour.
Though I can use a 5th tier healing spell, it’s from a different category. Enhancements or synthesis are relatively straightforward.
A 4th tier synthesis? I felt a bit tense.
“Okay.”
I stacked the two circles on top of the basic circle, securing the corners to prevent shaking.
“Wow, it’s beautiful to see.”
Gishta sparkled her eyes beside me.
The last fourth circle. This would need to be drawn at the right angle, making it a bit tricky.
Acella could probably do this with her eyes closed.
She was a phenomenal talent when it came to spellcasting.
With a mental image of Acella’s magic in mind, I replicated the circle dropdown, and click! It fit perfectly into place, completing the spell!
“Nice.”
The materials shimmered, completing the synthesis. The essence of alchemy surpassed physics and chemistry now unveiled.
After the casting was completed, the golden liquid in the flask shimmered beautifully as I simply gazed at it.
―――――――――――
· Lucid Dream Potion
· Potion / Transcendent Grade
· Effect: Allows the drinker to visit the world of pleasant dreams. It also affects divine beasts and transcendent beings.
· Duration: 10 days
―――――――――――
I stood up with the potion in hand.
“This will let you dream sweet dreams for ten days. While you rest, I’ll gladly take the Dragon Scale in the meantime.”
—Good.
The Heavenly Dragon nodded, carefully gripping the flask with its large claw. It downed it in one go, curling back into its lair.
—The Dragon Scale is right here. Take it. We shall meet again, Gothberg, Gishta.
We bowed our heads to the Heavenly Dragon and said our goodbyes.
As I checked through the status window to see if she dozed off, a message popped up.
―――――――――――
· Great Achievement!
· You have acquired the [Alliance of the Sky Dragon Legion] achievement. The Guardians of all beings are paying attention to you.
· You successfully synthesized a very rare material!
· You have gained a large amount of experience points.
· Your Alchemy rank will soon rise to A.
· You have realized the commonality of [Elixir] materials.
―――――――――――
Only good stories awaited me.
It was also a pleasant revelation to know that I was one step closer to elixir-making.
First and foremost, harvesting the Dragon Scale was crucial, so I prioritized that over analyzing the details.
With a serene expression, the Heavenly Dragon closed its eyes and presented its chin as a scale shone brilliantly beneath its neck.
It seemed the dragon was considerate enough to let me pick it up easily.
It was much too large to take with a mere knife.
“Gishta, lend me your axe.”
Using a borrowed axe, I carefully scraped away at the surface until I completed the extraction.
A gleaming scale, slightly larger than my palm. The moment I held the ancient dragon’s scale in my hand was exhilarating.
“Nice.”
After applying the final treatment to the dragon’s wound, I exited the lair.
With that, I gathered both materials for the elixir.
‘A branch of the World Tree and the Dragon Scale of an ancient dragon.’
Both materials had one clear commonality.
‘They are parts of transcendent beings who live lives close to immortality.’
The last remaining material seemed likely to be a body part of an immortal transcendent as well.
Surely it wouldn’t be a goddess. Judging by other materials, it would most likely belong to some real existing being, as goddesses tend to mirror systems like this status window rather than being actual entities.
Considering that elixirs have been created before, they are not something out of reach.
‘And one more thing. I need a liquid base to create a potion.’
[· Elixir = ??? + Dragon Scale + Branch of the World Tree]
In other synthesis formulas, the base liquid is typically indicated first. The Lucid Dream Potion had the stabilizer at the front.
So, the first material is liquid.
“Blood… perhaps?”
At that moment, the synthesis formula changed.
[· Elixir = ???’s Blood + Dragon Scale + Branch of the World Tree]
Looks like that was the right answer.
Now, refining my alchemy skills or directly meeting that being should clarify things for me.
“I’ve done what I needed. Let’s head back, Gishta.”
“Is the adventure over? It’s too bad because I had a blast.”
“What, isn’t the adventure until we get home?”
“Oh, I never thought of that. That’s a good point!”
The moment Gishta showed a hint of disappointment, her expression quickly brightened as she thumped her chest with enthusiasm.
