Chapter 255
1.
The attending physician treated the wicked woman and ran away.
Thank you for reading this far!
2.
I’m always looking forward to writing after the story ends.
The author is quite talkative, you see.
Every day, I resist the urge to reply to your comments.
If we talk about the story, I could go on until you get bored.
But I believe replies and author’s words interfere with your immersion.
That’s how I felt when reading as a reader.
So, I’m trying my best to hold off on discussing the story until it’s complete.
I hope you can enjoy the work entirely.
“The Attending Physician’s Wicked Woman” has been the longest-running work of the author so far. Not only did it surpass 200 episodes, it has reached a whopping 254 episodes. It’s been serialized for 9 months!
There are countless stories I wanted to share piled up like a mountain!
3.
This work was an entry for the 2023 Ultimate Universe Contest.
Around the time I finished my previous work, “The Slaves That Were Not Sold Returned as Heroes,” I was pondering whether to start a new work in a challenge or a contest when the challenge ended, and it became a goal to aim for the contest.
I had some stories that I couldn’t finish from “Annoying Heroes” (안노용), so I planned to base this around those.
At one point, I confessed in the author’s note that this story began as an “if” from the start. “The Attending Physician’s Wicked Woman” started as a spin-off unrelated to “Annoying Heroes.”
During the contest, it didn’t receive much attention.
The title was different back then. It was a challenging work to title! Even now, I think “medical genre” is quite an unfamiliar genre on Novelpia. At the time, I wanted to keep the medical theme and the main character’s occupation, attending physician, hidden. Thus, I was left with very few words to work with.
The cover art was a rough version drawn by the author, and the contest had a lot of works serialized simultaneously.
By the 5th day of serialization, there were fewer than a hundred readers who enjoyed it. I felt like I initially failed to grab attention.
Since then, it has grown a bit, but the performance was quite ambiguous.
Personally, I tend to set the standard for exclusive transitions to within the top 100, so it was pretty concerning.
Ultimately, my conclusion at the time was to write it all the way to the end, even if it meant an early conclusion.
I had previously given up on a work that just barely missed the top 100 before transitioning to exclusivity, which was quite painful, and this time I wanted to see the remaining stories in my previous work come to fruition, so I made up my mind to give it a shot.
Fortunately, I lucked into reaching the final round, and thanks to winning an award, I was able to show the story to many readers I never imagined during the start of serialization.
I truly appreciate it!
4.
While serializing this work, there were certainly joyful moments and difficult ones.
254 episodes isn’t a long length in web novel standards, but for an author with a short history, the experience from my previous work “Annoying Heroes” at 176 episodes was the longest I’d previously gone. After that, it was all uncharted territory!
Writing is always difficult, and needing to produce an episode every day makes it even tougher, especially since I’ve only recently encountered web novels, I realized just how little I’ve read so far.
The hardest part was indeed managing my health. Since I had cervical disc issues for a while, sitting through extended hours became quite challenging.
At one point, my work schedule got hectic, especially around March when Lishe made her appearance. I recognized the lack of immersion in that part but couldn’t find time to amend it. During that time, I often couldn’t sleep for several days, which messed up my condition quite a bit.
Looking back, I feel regret about Lishe’s and Charles’ stories.
I’m not sure if anyone’s interested, but I’m actually working part-time in a game company writing scenarios.
Moreover, besides that, I also experienced the loss of my dog who crossed the Rainbow Bridge. She was 19 years old and passed due to old age; living with her felt like having a little sister. Thus, there were some minor issues, like originally planning for Max to emerge when leaving the Moonlight Palace, but I couldn’t write about it…
Of course, along with the difficulties, plenty of good events occurred.
At the planning stage, I thought both the romance fantasy and medical genre was quite niche and doubted I could surpass the previous work’s performance, but I never imagined I would receive this much love!
I even got results from the contest and saw my work featured on the main page… I was able to happily serialize because of you, dear readers!
5.
The next serialization will not immediately follow with a new work.
Above all, there’s the spin-off of my previous work that’s been pending for a year.
Aisha hasn’t had her wedding for a year now.
For the time being, I intend to write the spin-offs for “The Attending Physician” and “Annoying Heroes,” probably at a more leisurely pace than daily serialization.
Many readers have requested to unravel the other endings presented in “The Attending Physician.” I had plans to briefly serialize different routes as spin-offs.
However, I wasn’t planning to show all endings, as I think many readers might find some normal endings distressing, and it questions if there’s a need to show them after the good endings.
Good endings for Gishta and Lishe would be difficult to reach straight away because Lars made different choices in those episodes. The probability of seeing a bad ending would increase, making it necessary to take a different timeline from the start.
As for the spin-off, I’m considering addressing the aftermath of the main story. Perhaps Lars and Acella’s daughter will appear as well.
Only after finishing the spin-offs for “The Attending Physician” and “Annoying Heroes” can I shift to new project work.
6.
I’m currently selecting a project for my next work on Novelpia… but.
Recently, I’ve gotten so busy that I haven’t properly read web novels in a long time. I can’t even check the new releases on Novelpia or the free rankings as it’s quite overwhelming.
I feel like I’ve become a writing machine. It’s like making dough; if you don’t put in the correct ratio of water and flour, you just get a gray mush.
For a while, I’d like to return as a reader and focus on reading, but I don’t plan on stopping writing either.
The stories I’ve written so far have come from fields I was either specialized or simply interested in working with. Heroes, villains, professors, wicked women, physicians… but looking at it, there aren’t really any professional fields.
From those interests, the following materials for my next work are gleaned.
– Fantasy coin, stock material
– Fantasy RTA (speedrun)
– Fantasy Greek and Roman mythology
– Modern TS in broadcast (VTuber)
– Modern romantic comedy (VTuber heroine)
I’ve always wanted to write about coins since it seemed easy, so I’ve often thought about writing in that genre.
Speedrunning was a field I had a bit of interest in, and it seems like it would be fun to write about as a web novel. But I don’t think it would lend itself to long serialization since it’ll likely become a munchkin genre.
Greek and Roman mythology has been a favorite of mine for a long time, and I’ve freshly returned to the concept as I’d like to explore that theme. I’ve already drafted the beginning, and I feel good about it, so it’s likely to be the one I serialize first.
Romantic comedy has always been a genre I really want to tackle, yet for some reason, it always gets pushed back on my priority list.
Even if I write it, I’m unsure when it’ll actually get serialized. I do want to participate in contests, but I suspect the planning might be delayed until winter.
Whenever I start, I’ll definitely write it, so if you end up liking the new work later, I hope to have your support again!
7.
Finally, I’d like to express my gratitude to those who have personally helped me during serialization.
Thank you to the author of “Smoking Six Cuts,” who provided feedback daily and was a great help.
Always grateful to the diligent Novelpia PD who has supported me thoroughly.
Thanks to Teacher Song for reviewing the medical descriptions. I apologize for the errors in many scenes despite your review.
And special thanks to the authors Juap, Yeah, and Yukon for enhancing the Royal Princess’s charm with their excellent skills!
But above all, it was the readers’ love for “The Attending Physician’s Wicked Woman” that allowed it to come to this conclusion.
To the supporters, those who followed from my previous work, daily readers, and binge-readers—each of you is among the most precious people to the author.
Thank you!
Until we meet again!
Fin.
