Chapter 6: Vow
All the men except Anthony left the room, and he waited for his Boss to give the orders.
"I want you to protect someone."
"Who, Don?"
"She is very important to me." Rhysand didn't explain further. "There may be danger to her life because of us. I want you to protect her."
Rhysand didn't know how capable she was. She may be skilled in martial arts, but he wasn't willing to take the risk. There was a high chance she would be attacked for foiling Santiago's plan and that was not something he wanted. Although she had covered her face and maintained a disguise, that didn't mean she wasn't in danger. So, he had to prepare in advance before it was too late.
"Yes, Don." Anthony didn't question him on his orders and agreed to do anything he wanted.
"I'll text you her address. I don't know if that is where she lives. But you'll find her over there for sure."
"I understand, Don."
"You may leave now. If I have any more orders, I will tell you later."
"Yes, Don."
Anthony took his leave and Rhysand returned to the report in his hand. The casino was flocked with people every day, be it on a weekday or a weekend. So, he didn't have to worry about the profits.
Once he was done checking, he leaned back on his chair, his thoughts again wandering back to the lady. 'What could her name be?' he wondered.
Even though he had heard one of the men with her call her Diva once, he knew it wasn't her real name. It was a pseudo-name she was using to carry out her tasks.
All of a sudden, the listening app on his phone that was still working in the background buzzed to life, and he heard someone cussing.
"Who does he think he is?" He heard the voice of the same lady he was thinking about. "How dare he restrain me? Are we role-playing or something? Does he have some strange fetish?" she grumbled and Rhysand blinked a few times to clear his head.
"Don't tell me I'm hallucinating now?" He contemplated.
"I'm going to kill him the next time I meet him."
Rhysand heard the voice again and his eyes rounded in surprise. 'Don't tell me,' he wondered and continued to listen.
"I'm going to kick him in the nuts first and then kill him. Who does he think he is? Is he Rhysand Moretti or what?"
Rhysand's heart skipped a beat when he heard her mention his name. 'Did she find out it was me behind the mask?'
"How can I even compare Rhysand Moretti to him? I must have lost my mind. Where is Rhysand Moretti, and where is this despicable man? They can't be compared at all."
Rhysand didn't know if he should laugh or cry. The lady was praising him and scolding him at the same time. How could he not feel helpless?
'Did the device fall out of that man's pocket?' he wondered, his eyes lighting up with hope. That had to be the case. Otherwise, how could the device still be in the garage when the man was on his way to the landfill?
"I'll make him my punching bag and make sure he loses all his teeth before I kill him."
Rhysand felt a dull pain in his jaw.
"I will shave all his hair off and make him go bald."
Rhysand touched his precious hair and sighed in relief when he realized it was still intact.
"I am going to pluck his eyeballs out."
Rhysand covered his eyes immediately. He had no intention of becoming blind.
"I am going to castrate him."
Rhysand squeezed his thighs instantly, protecting his precious weapon.
"Lady, you are merciless," he mumbled.
"I am going to show him what I am capable of. How dare you handcuff me! I won't let this go. Maril, don't you forget this humiliating incident. You need to seek vengeance."
Although Rhysand was dejected, his emotions changed when he finally heard her name.
"Maril." Rhysand smiled, loving the sound of her name.
"Ugh!" Maril screamed and kicked a table, only to cry in pain.
Rhysand's heart twisted when he heard her whimper. 'What happened? What happened?'
"Ughh, I hate this night. I need to drink to forget the humiliation I faced."
Rhysand heard some muffled sounds followed by a small thud.
"Bless Yoda for stacking the refrigerator with beer," she cheered and opened a can.
Rhysand didn't hear any sound other than a can being opened and dropped a few minutes later.
"Diva!! Why are you drinking again?" He heard a man's shriek suddenly, and he squinted his eyes in dismay. 'He screams worse than my Ginger when she is hungry,' Rhysand grumbled.
"Yoda, join me. Will ya?" Maril slurred.
"Diva, why did you drink so much? You are high. Let me take you to your bed."
"Hey, no. I want to drink more."
Yoda ignored her request and picked up the unopened cans of beer before hiding them from her.
Maril had no idea what Yoda had done. She smiled like a fool as she swung her hand.
"Diva, let's put you to bed. Shall we?"
"No. I want to kick some people."
"Diva." Yoda sighed and pulled at his hair.
"I am going to kill that bastard. How dare he hurt me?"
"Who hurt you, Diva?" Yoda's expression changed when he heard her and rushed to her instantly.
However, neither Yoda nor Rhysand heard her reply.
"It's going to cost you, Diva. I will demand compensation when you wake up. You better be prepared," Yoda warned as he helped her to bed.
Rhysand wasn't sure if he could trust Maril with the man named Yoda. He fidgeted in his seat nervously as he continued listening.
"Rambo, I am coming over."
He heard the man speak after some time. 'Is he on the phone?' he wondered.
"Diva is here and she is wasted. I need a place to crash."
Rhysand sighed in relief and leaned back in his chair. There was the sound of a car driving, and then everything became silent.
"I am so sorry, Maril," he muttered as he looked at the ceiling. "I will never hurt you again. Never."
And that was the first and the last time Rhysand hurt Maril.
