After typing the final word on her keyboard, Utaha licked her lips, stretched lazily, and raised one of her long, black-stockinged legs, accentuating her slender, graceful form. Her posture was effortlessly elegant.
With a slight smile tugging at the corners of her lips, she turned her gaze to Sui. "Sui, it's been a while."
"Utaha-senpai, I haven't seen you around these past few days." Sui's eyes briefly glanced at her legs, clad in black stockings.
"Yes, I've been caught up with book signings lately. I didn't have much time." She licked her lips again, then added with a teasing smile, "But I've missed tasting your cooking, Sui."
Sui felt exasperated, silently wondering if this girl might actually starve without him.
"I have other things to do, so I'll be going," he said, preparing to leave.
Without a word, Utaha shifted in her chair, patting the empty space beside her, gesturing for Sui to sit.
After a moment's hesitation, Sui sat down.
With them now seated side by side, Utaha casually leaned her head against Sui's shoulder. "Sui, what made you decide to visit the woman you abandoned today?"
Sui was at a loss for words. 'Senpai, could you stop saying things like that?' he thought.
"I just happened to be passing by and thought I'd check in," he said truthfully.
"Ah, so you still have some affection for me?" Utaha's teasing tone persisted, as she couldn't help but ask.
Despite being used to her teasing, Sui still felt a headache coming on.
"senpai, if you don't have anything important, maybe it's time for me to head out?" he suggested.
"Don't go, stay with me for a little while longer," Utaha murmured, and then, without warning, one of her delicate, fair hands slid over and clasped Sui's.
Her hand was soft and warm, her long, slender fingers a testament to hours spent typing.
'senpai, you're playing with fire again,' Sui thought helplessly. 'Have she already forgotten the last time?'
But, for now, he stayed. The two sat together in silence for a full twenty minutes.
"senpai, it's about time for me to leave," Sui finally spoke up, breaking the quiet.
There was no response.
Curious, Sui leaned slightly toward her and, to his surprise, found Utaha fast asleep on his shoulder, her breathing soft and steady.
He knew that she often stayed up late—sometimes to finish her manuscript, other times to attend events. It seemed she had likely pulled an all-nighter again.
Sighing softly, Sui gently lifted her, cradling her in his arms as he carried her to her bed. Her slippers slipped off, revealing her small, delicate toes. He placed her under the covers, tucking her in before shaking his head and quietly leaving the room.
As soon as the door clicked shut, Utaha's eyes fluttered open. She glanced at the quilt he'd covered her with, bit her lip, and muttered, "What an idiot."
——
With Eriri and Utaha's busy schedule, Sui's life returned to its usual routine.
During the day, he would either watch TV with Tohru and Kanna or spend time with Alice. Occasionally, he would help Erina with taste-testing her new dishes. Life was comfortable, but after a while, it started to feel a bit too dull.
Sui had grown used to the bustling, busy life of school, and the sudden free time left him feeling restless.
After some thought, he decided to find a new way to occupy himself.
Then, he remembered Sonoka's restaurant.
——
Inside the Shunkatei restaurant, Hinako Inui, dressed in her usual Japanese chef's uniform, sat at a table, absentmindedly sipping her tea as she stared out the window.
"Hey? What's wrong with Hinako-senpai? She's been out of it for a while now," Sonoka asked with surprise.
"You really don't get it, do you?" Taki chimed in, shaking her head.
"Huh? Get what?" Sonoka asked, confused.
"It's obvious she's in love," Taki scoffed.
"What?!" Sonoka immediately covered her mouth in shock. "Is that really true?"
As they both glanced at Hinako, who sat there with a dreamy, distant smile, it certainly seemed to be the case.
"Hinako-senpai has someone she likes? Who?" Sonoka asked, unable to hold back her curiosity.
"How would I know?" Taki interjected, though she too was curious.
Then, in a sudden shift, Taki turned her attention to Sonoka. "Hey, Sonoka, do 'you' have someone you like?" she asked with interest.
Sonoka paused, touching a finger to her lips, clearly puzzled. "Someone I like? I'm not sure... What does it even mean to like someone?"
Taki chuckled and nodded toward Hinako. "It's when you think of a person all the time, like 'that'."
"But it's not like that for everyone," Sonoka said. "Every woman's different. Look at her," she gestured to Hinako, "she's probably never been in love before. Now, she meets someone and falls head over heels without even realizing it."
"So, is there anyone 'you' feel that way about?" Taki pressed.
"Someone special?" Sonoka thought for a moment, and then an image of Sui popped into her mind.
Whenever she was around him, even though he was technically her kohai, she always felt comfortable. She enjoyed being with him.
'Is that what it means to like someone?'
Seeing Sonoka's dazed expression, Taki couldn't help but get annoyed. Without warning, she reached over and squeezed Sonoka's chest, taking out her frustration.
"Ah! Taki-senpai, stop!" Sonoka yelped in shock, turning pale and nearly bursting into tears.
At that moment, Sui walked in. He stared at the scene before him, utterly speechless as Taki continued to torment Sonoka.
"Taki-senpai, are you bullying Sonoka-senpai again?" Sui asked, exasperated.
"Sui-kun!" Sonoka, who had been on the verge of tears, looked up in surprise at the sound of his voice.
