Chapter 127
127. The Giant Spider Of The 30th Floor
The 27th floor, like the previous ones, consisted of a maze-like path.
I continued to send out slimes to scout for the location of the stairs. The monsters on this floor were noticeably stronger than those we encountered on the 25th floor.
We used the slimes to find the shortest route and took down any monsters in our way.
While the monsters we encountered were easy for us to defeat, it was becoming tough for the slimes to fight them.
We pressed on, trying to conserve our strength while ensuring the slimes’ numbers didn’t dwindle. As expected, it wasn’t as easy as the shallower floors.
“Whoa!”
We reached the 29th floor and were fighting a bipedal monster when I was hit harder than expected and fell on my rear.
The monster raised its fist, ready to crush me, but—
Laura stepped in front of me, slashing the monster with her sword and taking it down.
“Are you hurt?”
The monster fell with a small tremor. Laura looked at me and sighed.
“I’m fine. Thanks for the save.”
“Let’s move on. The stairs should be close.”
As Laura said, we were near the stairs to the 30th floor, where the floor boss awaited.
I opened my status and checked my level.
—Level 49. I’d leveled up once since arriving here.
Having never gone past the 25th floor, this was all new to me. I wanted to level up more before facing the next floor boss, but—
“What kind of boss is on the 30th floor?”
“Ariadne. A spider monster about 4 meters long. Much stronger than the Minotaur.”
“Ugh, I hate spiders…”
Lise shuddered and rubbed her arms. Despite being slightly smaller than the Minotaur, it was still a giant spider.
With more information from Laura about Ariadne, we descended the stairs to the 30th floor.
“Shhhhhhhhh!!”
We reached the 30th floor, and Ariadne appeared before us.
It was enormous. Its body was a venomous purple, its legs were thick like pillars, and its tips were razor-sharp.
“Stand back. I’ll handle this—”
I stopped Laura with a hand as she tried to step forward, as she did with the Minotaur.
“What are you doing?”
“I’ll take this one. You rest.”
“There’s no need. I can end this quickly. You should rest.”
I shook my head.
“No. You do too much on your own. I want to stand on equal ground with you. So I’ll handle this.”
Laura was strong. She could likely fight monsters on the 42nd floor alone.
But that wasn’t the point. We needed Laura to trust us and fight together as a team.
“That’s why Raize and I will do this!”
“What!? Didn’t you just say you’d do it!? I hate spiders!!”
“Just get your fire magic ready! We’ll burn it down!”
I charged at Ariadne, gripping my sword tightly.
Ariadne raised its front legs and brought them down to pierce me. At the same time, my sword was enveloped in flames.
“
I swung my sword upward, slicing diagonally. The flames on the blade turned into a slashing attack, flying towards Ariadne’s face.
The force and heat blew off Ariadne’s front legs. Its bizarre screech echoed throughout the dungeon.
“Raize! Now! Show us your magic!”
“Alright, fine! I’ll do it!”
Raize raised her staff high, aiming its ornate tip at Ariadne.
“O flames of scorching heat, spirits of fire that illuminate life, grant me the power to banish evil!”
The air grew hotter, and a fireball appeared, transforming into a fearsome dragon.
“
At Lise’s command, six dragons soared through the air, attacking Ariadne. Explosions and screams filled the dungeon.
It was the same spell I saw in the battle with Dan. With her staff and higher level, its power was far greater.
When the flames subsided, Ariadne lay dead, its charred head touching the ground.
—We had conquered the 30th floor boss, Ariadne.
