The Former Marine

Chapter 18: Chapter 18: Stars at the Boot Camp

Derek Rogan's gym in Venice Beach was gaining more and more notoriety. What started as a fitness and self-defense training facility for veterans and everyday people alike, quickly became a meeting place for influential figures and celebrities looking for a challenging workout and a way to learn self-defense from someone who really knew what they were doing.

As the months passed, word that Derek, a Special Forces veteran, had opened a gym in Los Angeles began to circulate through Hollywood circles. It wasn't long before well-known names started showing up through the door.

It was a sunny morning in Venice Beach, and Derek was in the weight room, adjusting the machines for the late-arriving members. The sound of the dumbbells mingled with the soft hum of conversation from the regulars. He was used to training people of all walks of life, but what he hadn't expected was the client who showed up shortly after.

"Derek Rogan?" a soft, familiar voice echoed through the room.

Derek looked up and, to his surprise, saw none other than Gal Gadot, the Hollywood star known for her role as Wonder Woman. She was standing with a smile on her face, wearing sportswear and ready to train.

"Yes, that's me," Derek replied, shaking her hand firmly. "Gal Gadot, right? What can I do for you?"

"That's right," she laughed. "I've heard great things about your gym and your training. I think I need something more challenging to keep in shape... and maybe learn a little more self-defense."

Derek nodded with a smile. "You're in the right place. Ready for an intense workout?"

Gal smiled. "Always ready."

The workout started off intense, with Derek adjusting the techniques and exercises to Gal's level. He led her through a series of strength and endurance exercises that were not only physically challenging, but also mentally challenging. With each move, Derek gave her precise tips, helping her hone her posture and efficiency.

"You're doing great," Derek commented as she completed a series of direct hits on the heavy bag. "Now, let's add some self-defense. Here at the gym, I always like to mix up techniques to make sure my students are ready for any situation."

Gal nodded and prepared for the next sequence. Derek demonstrated some basic self-defense moves, showing her how to block attacks and respond with quick counters. Gal, with her previous experience in on-screen combat, picked up the moves quickly, and Derek was impressed.

"You really stand out," he said as she blocked a blow and responded with a well-aimed punch. "I guess the training for the movies paid off."

She laughed, wiping the sweat from her forehead. "Well, I've had some good teachers. But I think you're the best so far."

A few weeks later, Derek's gym was even busier. Gal Gadot had spoken about her training with Derek in a few interviews, which had attracted the attention of other famous names. Soon, Scarlett Johansson's star showed up to train.

"I heard you're training superheroes," Scarlett commented as she walked into the gym for the first time.

Derek laughed and greeted her. "Well, it looks like it. And now I have another one on my team?"

"You're looking at Black Widow," she replied with a playful smile. "I think a little real self-defense will help in my upcoming films. And who better to teach me than a special forces veteran?"

Scarlett's training was just as intense as Gal's, with Derek adjusting the exercises to suit her physique and goals. He quickly realized that she was also a dedicated and disciplined student. With each passing day, the gym seemed to come alive, and Derek began to feel his impact extend far beyond the military.

A month later, a completely different figure appeared at the gym. Justin Bieber and his wife, Hailey Bieber, walked in together, both curious about the training that was attracting so many Hollywood stars.

"Derek, right?" Justin asked as they walked in. "I heard about you from Gal and Scarlett. Hailey and I were looking for something new to do together, and I thought some self-defense would be fun. Can you help us out?"

Derek, who was used to working with all types of people, smiled. "Sure. We do everything here: fitness, self-defense, and even more focused training. Let's start slow and see how you guys do."

Training with Justin and Hailey was lighter, but just as fun. Derek taught the couple how to work together on self-defense drills, showing them how to protect each other in potentially dangerous situations. Between laughs and sweat, the two quickly learned, and Derek couldn't help but notice how the training brought them closer together as a couple.

"This is really amazing," Justin commented after an intense workout. "I never thought Hailey and I would do something like this together."

"That's what I like about it," Derek replied. "It's not just about learning how to fight. It's about trust, strength, and togetherness."

Over time, Derek's gym became more than just a place to train; it became a haven for stars who wanted to learn something new, overcome challenges, and stay in shape at the same time. Derek's blend of self-defense techniques, combat knowledge, and hands-on approach made his gym the most sought-after place in Los Angeles.

One day, as Derek was closing up the gym after a long day of training, he stopped to reflect. The transition from military to civilian life had not been easy, but somehow he had managed to not only adapt, but thrive. He had helped transform the lives of many people, including some of the world's biggest celebrities. Most importantly, he had found a new mission—a new way to serve.

As he turned out the lights and walked out the front door, Derek looked around the gym with a satisfied smile. He knew he had found his new purpose. It didn't matter if he was training soldiers or movie stars—he was molding warriors one way or the other, and that was all he needed.

Life in Los Angeles was very different from his overseas assignments, but at the same time, the essence was the same: preparing people to be ready for whatever battle life threw at them.
