Chapter 28: Returning Home, Mother and Son Reunited
The school year had ended, and on this last night, all the young witches and wizards in the dormitory were busy packing their belongings. Their wardrobes were soon emptied, and everything was packed neatly into their trunks.
But in Lynn's dormitory, nothing seemed to have changed. All his clothes were neatly arranged in their original positions, and Lynn was comfortably lying on his bed, deeply engrossed in a book of The Tales of Beedle the Bard.
The next day, Lynn simply opened his small backpack with a Stretching Charm and, without leaving a trace, waved his wand. His clothes and belongings arranged themselves like little figures and jumped into his bag.
As they were about to leave Hogwarts Castle, a notice was sent to every young wizard. The notice served as a reminder that magic should not be used during the holidays.
However, this notice was of no use to Lynn. After all, Lynn would be spending his summer holidays either with his mother, Rowena, at Rolle Manor or traveling to France with Professor Green. The notice's magical trace detection could only detect traces of spells cast within a specific area, but it couldn't identify the person who cast the spell.
Therefore, even if Lynn cast random spells, the enchantment wouldn't be able to tell whether the magic was cast by Lynn or by the adult wizards around him.
Furthermore, even if Lynn wasn't surrounded by other adult wizards, he had already mastered the ability to cast spells without a wand, and those kinds of traces weren't detectable by the Ministry of Magic.
Lynn had already succeeded in casting two basic spells—Lumos (the Lumos Charm) and Wingardium Leviosa (the Levitation Charm)—without a wand.
After leaving Hogwarts Castle, Lynn and a group of young wizards once again boarded the fleet led by Hagrid across the Black Lake and then boarded the Hogwarts Express.
With villages and green forests passing by the train window, the Hogwarts Express finally entered the city and stopped at Platform 9 at King's Cross Station.
On the other side of the partition, an Auror dressed as an old guard maintained order as the young wizards passed through.
"See you next semester! Lynn! Don't forget to write to us!" Fred and George waved at Lynn before heading toward the Weasley family, who had been waiting for them.
Charlie and Percy had already joined their parents in front of them, and Mrs. Weasley smiled at her children.
As the Weasley twins approached, Mrs. Weasley noticed that Lynn was standing a little farther away, alone.
"Boy, come here quickly. I've heard about you from Fred and George! I have to thank you for looking after them this year!" Mrs. Weasley said with a smile, showing no concern for the fact that a Death Eater had been involved with Lynn's household.
Lynn gave a slight bow to Mrs. Weasley and humbly replied, "No, Fred and George helped me a lot as well."
In truth, Lynn felt a little guilty toward Mrs. Weasley. After all, the reason Fred and George had gotten into so much trouble this school year was largely due to their improved dungbombs—something Lynn had helped them with...
After bidding farewell to the Weasley family, Lynn walked to a secluded corner, where the house-elf Gale had been waiting for him.
Crack!
Lynn grasped Gale's wrinkled hand, and with a burst of air, the two disappeared from the spot.
Rolle Manor, First Floor, Rolle Castle.
"Mum, I'm home!"
Lynn was overjoyed as he entered through the castle's door with Gale. He handed his small backpack to Gale and asked him to take it back to his bedroom, then headed straight for his mother, Rowena.
Though Rowena was his true mother in this life, the bond they shared from the past eleven years of dependence was irreplaceable.
Rowena, who hadn't seen her son for a year, was filled with longing despite her strong heart.
On the living room sofa, Lynn and Rowena sat together. A black-and-white television, purchased from the Muggle world, was broadcasting Muggle news nearby, while Lynn told Rowena in detail about his year at Hogwarts.
When Rowena heard that Lynn had a great teacher and had learned alchemy, she appeared both surprised and proud of him.
Upon learning of the danger Lynn had encountered on Halloween night, Rowena became extremely frightened, nearly losing her only son.
When Rowena found out that Professor Green's practical lessons had greatly improved Lynn's strength, her feelings toward him became complex. While she wanted to thank him for accepting Lynn as his student and helping him grow more powerful, the incident with the Dark Wizard Casillas made her harbor some grievances toward Professor Green.
"Mum, you don't need to worry about that. I volunteered to help Professor Green on Halloween night. Besides, nothing really happened to me, right?" Lynn reassured his mother, finally getting her to set aside her worries.
Rowena looked at Lynn and asked softly, "You said you learned to cast spells without a wand and perform silent fire spells. Can you show me?"
Lynn, of course, had no reason to refuse. He didn't take out his wand but instead waved his left hand, and a ball of fire quickly rose from his palm, flickering and shifting in the air according to his thoughts.
"Wingardium Leviosa!"
Lynn dismissed the flame and cast the Levitation Charm again. The water glass in front of them floated into the air and moved toward Rowena.
Rowena smiled as she grabbed the glass of water and took a sip.
After controlling the glass of water and returning it to the table, Lynn showed Rowena his wandless Lumos spell.
"Lynn, I remember giving you a one-handed sword for Christmas. You said you wanted to use it to study alchemy. Can I see your results?"
Rowena spoke with a soft smile, resting her chin in her hand as she watched Lynn.
Lynn took the one-handed sword out of the bag on his waist, which was enchanted with the Stretching Charm. The sword appeared extremely sharp, gleaming with a dazzling silver light under the room's illumination.
Along the edge of the sword, Rowena could see at least three alchemical formations connected in series. These alchemical formations endowed the sword with powerful attributes of "sharpness," "penetration," and "poison nullification."
However, because the alchemical circle with the "poison nullification" attribute hadn't absorbed actual poison, this alchemical circle couldn't truly activate its effects.
On the hilt of the one-handed sword, Rowena saw two sets of alchemical formations connected in parallel. These two sets were blessed with the attributes of "strength" and "dexterity," respectively. Lynn could choose which one to activate depending on the situation.
As for the solitary alchemical circle in the center of the sword, it had the attribute of "enhancement," which strengthened the sword's functions and enhanced the other alchemical formations.
