The God of Ice and Fire at Hogwarts

Chapter 3: Affinity with fire

"Seven Galleons of gold, sincerely, thank you!"

After choosing a wand for Lynn, Mr. Ollivander said to him.

Lynn instructed Gale, who was holding the money bag, to pay.

After purchasing the wand, Lynn took Gale to Flourish and Blotts, Madam Malkin's Robe Shop, Partridge's Cauldron, and other stores in Diagon Alley to buy the items required for his admission.

However, Lynn did not visit the Magical Menagerie or Eeylops Owl Emporium to purchase a pet, as he believed there was no need for one at the moment. Besides, he didn't necessarily have to own an owl for mail delivery.

At Rohr Manor, Lynn could rely on Gale, the house-elf, who was far more efficient for delivering messages. At Hogwarts, he could always use one of the school's public owls from the Owlery in the western tower.

After buying all the supplies, Lynn asked Gale to Apparate them back to Rohr Manor.

"Mom, I'm back! Here's the key for you!"

Lynn handed Rowena the key to Gringotts.

Rowena put the key away and said with a smile in her eyes, "Alright, go organize your equipment. I know you can't wait!"

Lynn chuckled.

As Rowena said, after buying all the equipment, Lynn could hardly wait to sort through it.

He returned to his room on the second floor and pulled out a small black backpack with dark red lines from beneath a large desk. This backpack had also been enchanted with an undetectable extension charm, making the space inside equivalent to that of ten large suitcases.

He unpacked the items he had previously bought, categorizing them by type: magic books, potion ingredients, cauldrons, magical accessories, protective gloves, other magical equipment, robes, and other clothing.

The first items Lynn organized were the numerous potion ingredients. In addition to the essential materials required for school, Lynn had also foresightedly purchased fire ash snake eggs, horseradish, sea onion bulbs, thyme tincture, birds, snake eggshells, rue powder, and other ingredients to brew the Felix Felicis potion.

Even though Lynn was not yet capable of brewing Felix Felicis, he was confident that he could learn to brew it in the future, given his prior knowledge of chemistry experiments from his previous life.

Additionally, while these materials were expensive, they were merely a drop in the ocean for the Rohr family.

After all, many master potion-makers in the wizarding world rose to prominence by spending countless Galleons.

Once the potion ingredients were packed in his backpack, Lynn moved on to other magical accessories.

To prepare for potential accidents at the unpredictable Hogwarts, Lynn bought all his accessories and magical equipment at the highest specifications and even purchased extras as backups.

He also stocked up on some daily-use potions, such as Essence of Dittany, as a precaution.

After organizing these, it was time to deal with the required textbooks for class.

Lynn did not pack these directly into his bag but instead carefully placed them on his bookshelf.

Although he wasn't a bookworm like Hermione, Lynn was eager to learn more magic before entering the wizarding world.

After all, learning magic in advance would allow him to stand out in class!

With this in mind, Lynn pulled "The Standard Book of Spells: Grade 1" from the shelf.

He opened the book with one hand while drawing his wand from his waist with the other.

"Lumos."

Following the book's instructions for the incantation and wand movements, Lynn waved his wand and recited the Lumos spell aloud.

Lumos was one of the simplest spells, and on his first attempt, Lynn managed to produce a faint white light at the tip of his wand.

Although the light was weak and barely illuminated the room, it was still a success.

"Nox."

Lynn recited the spell to extinguish the light.

Casting magic for the first time, even something as basic as Lumos, was an extraordinary experience for Lynn.

"Is this magic?!"

Lynn's eyes seemed to sparkle with excitement.

"Wingardium Leviosa!"

He waved his wand, pointing it at a feather in front of him.

The feather quivered under the influence of his magic, floated momentarily, and then fell back to its original spot.

Clearly, Lynn's first attempt at the Levitation Charm had failed.

However, he wasn't discouraged. It was, after all, his very first try.

Lynn kept practicing the Levitation Charm by waving his wand.

After half an hour, Lynn was barely able to levitate a book, keeping it stable about two or three meters above the ground.

This was still far from the impressive feat Ron had performed with the troll in the original story.

Of course, this wasn't due to Lynn lacking talent compared to Ron. Magic, being idealistic, often responded to strong intent. Ron's success with the Levitation Charm against the troll was driven by sheer desperation, creating a momentary miracle.

The afternoon passed quickly as Lynn practiced several more basic spells familiar from his past life.

At that moment, "The Standard Book of Spells: Grade 1" turned to the page for the Fire-Making Spell.

"Gale, please tidy up the backyard! I need an open space to practice spells!"

Lynn snapped his fingers, calling Gale and giving him instructions.

Unlike utility spells like Lumos and Wingardium Leviosa, Lynn dared not practice offensive spells like the Fire-Making Spell in his bedroom.

Otherwise, even with protective magic cast on the castle, his bed would likely be reduced to ashes.

Lynn had no intention of sleeping on the floor that night.

"Yes, Master!"

Gale bowed to Lynn and disappeared.

Through the window, Lynn saw Gale reappear in the backyard, using his magic to clear away useless debris.

Rohr Manor's grounds had been abandoned for over ten years, with much of the garden outside the castle left untended.

Although Gale had tried maintaining it daily, Lynn and Rowena agreed it wasn't necessary, so Gale had stopped.

After Gale cleared a space, Lynn headed to the backyard.

Pulling out his wand, Lynn felt the joyful connection with his soul once more. He waved his wand instinctively and recited the incantation: "Incendio!"

Without hesitation, a large red flame erupted from the wand, becoming a fierce blaze in the backyard.

The flame's heat was so intense that the surrounding air seemed distorted.

Seeing this, Lynn was momentarily stunned. The power of the Fire-Making Spell he had cast was comparable to that of an adult wizard!

As the fire spread toward the backyard fence, Lynn panicked and waved his wand, trying to extinguish it.

However, he soon realized that the Fire-Making Spell could only produce flames, not extinguish them.

But then, something strange happened.

The flames that had nearly engulfed the backyard began to retract toward the center under Lynn's intense desire to control them, eventually dissipating into the air.

"What is this?!"

Lynn was astonished. At that moment, he felt as if the flames were an extension of his body, moving at his command.

"Incendio!"

Lynn recited the incantation again, summoning a large ball of fire.

This time, instead of letting the flames spread, he tried controlling them, just as he had done to make them vanish earlier.

As Lynn waved his wand, he was amazed to see the flames move in the direction he pointed.

"Could it be because of this sycamore wood wand grafted with mahogany?"

Looking closely at his wand, Lynn noticed that when controlling the flames, the red lines on the wand's body became more vivid.

Lynn's ability to control the Fire-Making Spell was unparalleled compared to other spells he had tried.

Even the Lumos spell he had cast earlier lacked the power and precision of the Fire-Making Spell.

This extraordinary control over flames could stem from the sycamore wood's affinity for fire or from Lynn himself.

After all, being chosen by such a unique wand suggested that Lynn possessed a natural affinity for fire.

To test this, Lynn planned to practice the Fire-Making Spell wandlessly in the future.

For now, he continued practicing the spell, gradually becoming attuned to the magical flow in his body as he cast. This sensation was absent with other spells.

Three days passed quickly.

Lynn mastered several basic spells from "The Standard Book of Spells: Grade 1," with the most noticeable improvement being in the Fire-Making Spell.

This time, Lynn stood in the backyard once more. Unlike before, he intended to attempt a silent casting of the Fire-Making Spell.

After three days of practice, Lynn had memorized the magical pathways within his body when casting the Fire-Making Spell. This allowed him to attempt guiding the magical flow without uttering the incantation.

Lynn concentrated on the limited magical power in his body, directing it toward his wand in the same way as before.

The process was slow, but as Lynn silently recited the Fire-Making Spell in his mind, he was amazed to find the process accelerated nearly a hundredfold.

Though he only thought of the spell in his mind, a flame erupted from his wand, burning brightly in the backyard.

"Silent casting! Success!"

Lynn was elated.

Although the power of the burning flames released by the silent spell is a little less powerful than before, it still reaches the level of the OWL!
