Chapter 59: 59 - Arrest
"I'm going to solve questions. I will make a superhero battle suit, I'm going to be a superhero!"
Peter, who was only seven years old, shouted in high spirits and raised his arms while Derrick played along with him.
"Peter, you can take your time to become a superhero, but you have a more important task now, which is, going to school quickly."
"...I see, Aunt May."
May didn't attempt to dissuade Peter from his ambitious aspirations, recognizing them as the imaginative fantasies of a child. She felt that if Peter was genuinely interested in learning and growing, she should encourage his motivation, rather than dampen it.
May turned to look at Derrick, "That..."
She remembered that she did not know the name of her new kind neighbor.
"My name is Derrick." Derrick laughed.
"Alright, Derrick it is. There is something I need your help with."
May pointed to the young man lying on the ground, and said, "I called the police, but it will take them a few more minutes to arrive. I'm worried that by that time, he might do something… crazy…"
"Ah, it's understandable, I'll give him a few more kicks and make sure he won't get up before the police arrive."
Hearing Derrick's words, the face of the young man pretending to be dead turned black.
He felt that if Derrick kicked him in the same place anymore, not only him, even something else might not be able to get up for his whole life.
May was also taken aback and quickly waved her hands and said, "No, no, you misunderstood, I mean can you stay here for a while and wait until the police come."
Derrick was a little disappointed, "Well, it's fine, but don't you really think my suggestion is good? I think this guy is quite dangerous and when he becomes a good-quality criminal, robbery with a knife would evolve into robbery AND murder."
"Uh, well, if he tries something, then you should kick him then..."
The man lay on the ground and continued his act. He wouldn't get up no matter what.
May was a special person and was easily able to chat with Derrick about current affairs.
Not long after, a police car came in and two white police officers got out of it. They looked at the two chatting and then at the black man lying on the ground with pain on his face.
Without any further ado!
The policemen arrested the man lying down.
One of the policemen said to May, "Madam, please calm down now, we have arrested the criminal."
The black man: "..." (E/N: Once again, no offense.)
As expected of an American police officer, with such valuable experience and judgment, he could immediately determine who was the criminal.
After that, May thanked Derrick again and then she drove Peter to school.
Derrick returned to his house, opened his garage's iron gate and brought out the motorcycle.
He was now going to get himself some food. Also, some books for Peter.
…
It has been a week since Derrick moved into his new house.
Derrick had recently added a permanent member to his family.
It was little Peter from the family next door.
After that day, May visited Derrick's home once because she wanted to say hello to her new neighbor.
Neighbour meaning not Derrick, but Derrick's parents.
When May got to know that Derrick was still a high school student, she thought that Derrick was living with his parents.
But, when May came to visit, she found out that Derrick lived there alone.
After knowing that Derrick had no parents, May thought of her little Peter, or because of the instincts of a mother, she invited Derrick to her home for dinner several times, and Derrick always accepted her invitation.
After a few days like that, all of them became acquainted.
Especially Peter, who often played with Derrick.
May had no problem with the two playing together. She had a good impression of Derrick. Although he said strange things sometimes, he was generally a trustworthy young man.
Moreover, she was really busy most of the time and had almost no time to play with Peter at home. He did not even have any friends to play with.
She was worried that if Peter continued to grow up like this, his personality would become more and more introverted and awkward.
So, letting him play with Derrick was a good thing, as long as Derrick didn't find it annoying.
…
"What's in here?"
Peter asked, pointing to the garage's closed door.
Recently, Peter saw Derrick walk into the garage and stay there for hours.
He could hear various strange sounds coming from inside from time to time. Peter was very curious about what Derrick always did inside.
Derrick sat on the sofa, drank the red bull in his hand and said, "That's a superhero's workstation."
Little Peter blinked his eyes in surprise, while his body was seemingly unresponsive.
A few seconds later, he asked with a blank expression, "So, are you a superhero?"
Derrick did not speak but showed a mysterious smile.
Seeing Derrick acting like that, Peter instantly recognized that Derrick was the kind of superhero who hid his identity and lived among ordinary people in comics.
Peter jumped up excitedly, "Oh my god! You are actually a superhero! No wonder you were able to defeat that bad guy last time."
"Little Peter, you know, in the eyes of a superhero, that kind of a criminal is nothing at all."
Derrick curled his lips, grabbed the toy gun that was lying on the table, raised his hand seemingly casually and fired it.
Peter took a closer look and saw a few suction cup bullets firmly stick to the wall.
The bullets were around five meters away from the dart board hanging on the wall.
"..."
Peter fell silent suddenly.
Noticing Peter's suspicious gaze, Derrick said cheerfully, "Go over and check the bullets carefully."
The bullets were stuck at a height just within Peter's reach.
Peter listened to Derrick and walked over obediently and pulled out the bullets with some difficulty.
The next moment, little Peter stared wide-eyed, looking at the thing inside the bullet in disbelief.
Peter saw a fly stuck in the suction cup which was still alive.
"Yes…there's a fly—"
"Okay, that's great!"
