Chapter 106: The First Month Away
Sweat rolled down Bilgarth's forehead as he sat across from Lysia and Morgana. He knew nothing good would come from her visiting. Even if he was stronger than the elf, Bilgarth didn't want to test Lysia in her current state. It had been over a month since Bane was sent to the demon world, and Lysia had not taken it well from day one.
No, The short elf woman had made it a point to let everyone that crossed paths with her that she was not happy. A few unknowing people had even been injured just from her walking down the street only to suddenly burst with rage, discharging all sorts of dangerous magics in every direction.
"I want you to kick Victor out of the village. It is his fault Bane is gone," Lysia said in a tone that made it clear it was not a question, making Morgana wince beside her.
Bilgarth ran a hand through his black hair that was pepper with streaks of white with a sigh. "You know that I can't do that. You also know that this isn't his fault."
Lysia turned up her nose. "I don't care. If he would not have been glaring at Bane, or let him into his house, this wouldn't have happened! It is bad news to keep someone that is affiliated with demons in our village in the first place!"
Bilgarth put a hand over his eyes, and rested his elbow on the desk. This wasn't the first time this had happened. In fact, this had become a daily occurrence for the last month, and Bilgarth was getting tired of it all, but couldn't really do anything to stop the elf.
"You know that Bane is more associated with demons than Victor is, or he wouldn't have been sent to their world. We also know that there is something inside the boy that could stop something like from happening if it wanted. Since it did not, we will have to assume that there is a reason for Bane being sent there," Bilgarth tried to explain, but Lysia cut him off.
"Who cares? We aren’t talking about Bane, now are we? We are talking about that irritable man! Victor! What is stopping him from doing it again?"
"He didn't do it in the first place! Are you even listening to me?!" Bilgarth roared, but then Lysia's hair flew up as mana rolled off her body in prismatic waves.
"I don't care! Someone has to pay for ruining my wedding!" She screamed, and Bilgarth rolled his eyes.
"You are already doing your best so everyone does!" Bilgarth snapped, and then pointed at the door. "Go find something to entertain yourself with, and stop bothering everyone else! Bane will be back when he gets back!"
Lysia glared at him, and then stood, storming out of the room and slamming the door behind her.
"She is not taking this well," Morgana commented, and Bilgarth snorted.
"Not taking it well? No, a small child that doesn’t get its way is taking it better than her! She is making every person’s life a living hell! Everywhere she goes, she is harassing them! You'd think each and every person in this village had something to do with Bane disappearing!" Bilgarth snapped, but then sunk into his chair, deflating. "This is getting ridiculous. We are not going to last another month like this, let alone two more. We will have a riot on our hands!"
Morgana nodded. "I know. I can't stop her, and even the ones that could won't, since most of them are just as bad, and agree with Lysia. I have been trying to keep her and Nina apart, but I fear Lysia is going to give in one of these days."
The color drained from his face. "They aren't going to start drinking again, are they? Neither of the women can handle their booze, and they both become irrationally violent!"
"I am trying my best, but Nina was already in a foul mood before Bane. Now that the punching bag is gone, she is starting to get more erratic. Pair that with the way Lysia is now, and I fear we might have another scene like after the war," Morgana explained, and Bilgarth's heart fell into his stomach.
"I guess that we need to start preparing for the worst. If those two start again, we will be lucky if the entire town isn't burned to the ground. When this happened after the war was over, it took nearly two months to get them off the bottle... Just how many countless people were injured at that time? Didn't we call it the Bloody Post War, because of all the fights that broke out from them getting drunk and angry, and attacking others?"
"Yes," Morgana confirmed, and Bilgarth put his head down onto his desk.
"It took everything to get those two sober, and it cost even more to fix all the damage they caused! Ugh! When is that damn boy going to get back? Your new boyfriend really screwed the pooch this time," Bilgarth groaned, and Morgana nodded with a blank look.
"Don't worry. Lysia created a coal mine under the training hall, and told Ezio not to come back until he found a pound of gold. She even enchanted his bandages to whip him when he stops working," Morgana explained, and Bilgarth frowned.
"But it is a coal mine, not a gold mine, right?"
Morgana nodded her head knowingly, and then sighed. "I think we have all undervalued just how peaceful our lives had become because of Bane. Normally, Lysia and the other acting wild was just a part of our lives, yet when Bane arrived, everything changed. He started to take everyone's frustrations and became an outlet without anyone even realizing it. We all see him as a loud mouth that loves to curse and tease people, but Bane is the only one who has been able to get Nina to fight in years, and he was able to handle both her and Lysia. He is also the only one to be able to calm Lysia, so I can understand why she is so mad, and lashing out right now."
Bilgarth nodded. "Yes, but with him gone for another two months, we are going to have to weather the storm that is his wife-to-be."
