Chapter 120: A Single Shred of Humanity
Above them, a massive red glowing bird that seemed to be made from fire hovered.
"Oh, fuck this. I am out," Bane sighed and then jumped back, but a pillar of fire struck the ground, and knocked him away from Nia and Elexis.
"You will not escape me, Demon King. I am the guardian of this realm, and you will submit to me," a female voice echoed from the bird.
"No, no, no, no, no," Bane chanted and shook his head, but the bird landed between him and the women. "Hey, um, can we just talk about this? I am not a Demon King. Hell, I am not even a demon!"
"Your soul reeks of a demon's soul, and I can sense you have the same kind of power, so you will submit, or die!" The bird shouted and flames exploded out of her, but Bane's demonic energy appeared, and he was protected.
'I think she is talking about your affinity to demonic energy, and not your soul,' Onyx corrected.
"Why are you all trying to kill me! I didn't do anything to you. You all are just fucking crazy!" Bane complained, and the burning bird dove at him, but Bane met the creature with a back hand that sent the creature twirling and spinning on its feet like a cyclone.
"You are the Demon King. You will submit, or die," the bird repeated as the fire around her intensified, and her head became a blazing ball of fire.
'This is getting ridiculous. Why is every powerful demon, monster, or spirit in this world trying to kill me!'
'It might have something to do with your friendly disposition,' Onyx replied.
'Well, thanks. I feel a lot better now.'
'If it makes you feel any better, this creature is much weaker than you, so she shouldn't cause you more trouble.'
Bane looked over at the girls who were on the other side of the phoenix, and then shook his head. "Both of those two are weaker than me, and look at the headaches they have already caused, and are sure to cause more. Why am I even here?"
Before Onyx could answer, the bird let out a loud screech.
"Fine! I will just take your women!" The bird cackled, and the fire that surrounded her exploded outwards, and engulfed the two females.
"What the hell?!" Bane roared as he looked at the bird, but it was gone. "You have got to be kidding me."
'She is not dead, and neither are they.'
Bane looked around, and smiled. "Oh no, whatever shall I do?” Bane asked in a voice filled with mock concern. “Honestly, that was much easier than I thought it would be."
'Hmm? You are not going after them?'
Bane's face took on an incredulous look, and then he shook his head. "Why do I care about them? Did you not remember the pains in my ass they were just a moment ago? I mean, this is the best possible outcome, right?"
There was a pause, but Bane felt Onyx give him a mental nod. 'Yes, it would probably be better for you to leave them to become food and have every muscle of their body torn from their body while they are still alive.'
Bane nodded. "Yes. It is clear to me now that these women have just been holding me back, clearly."
Onyx mentally nodded again. "Yes, you also know your way around the demon world very well, and shant need instructions, will you?"
Bane paused. "I suppose you have a point... But leaving them here just seems so much easier. It's not like I can keep towing them around with me. If Lysia finds out that-"
'That what?' Onyx demanded. 'You decided to help someone other than yourself?'
"Hey! Don't make me sound like the bad guy. You and I both know that my wife is jealous. What do you think she is going to do when she finds out that I have been spending all my time with demon women? You know just as well as I do that Eve will fill her in on everything! What do you think she will do when she sees these damn women throwing themselves at me?!"
'What do you care? You don't seem to mind it,' Onyx accused.
"Don't mind? I wouldn't mind if I was single, you dumb dumb! Lysia is going to get angry, and that will make her do stupid shit. That is the last thing we need considering everything. You already told me about the bullshit happening back in the village, and that is only because I am not there. Me spending my time with women instead of having the wedding ceremony? Death is the only thing," Bane grumbled, and looked around the area.
'That is if she finds out,' Onyx pointed out.
Bane snorted. "Like you would have my back. doesn't matter. I will be telling her everything that happened here, come hell or high waters."
'Are you going after the women then?'
Bane shrugged. "Not like I have a choice. I have no map, so I might as well pretend like there is a shred of humanity left in me, and go save those bitches."
'A single shred, you say?' Onyx replied, but Bane ignored him and headed in the direction the bird flew.
'Listen, Linda," Bane growled. "I am doing this because you are useless, and don't have a map of this world. I don't really care about the other ones."
'Their names are Nia and Elexis.'
"Whatever, Nia. Not like their names matter," Bane mumbled, and followed the trail of fire around the mountain until he came to a large cave.
'You will need a light,' Onyx pointed out, and a moment later, a small flame appeared on the tips of Bane's fingers.
'What is this?" Bane asked, looking at his finger. "Magic? For me?"
'Don't get carried away. I have not given you access to all your magic, just this flame,' Onyx corrected. 'Now, I can tell you that the bird is down this tunnel, and that is all.'
Bane snorted. "So helpful."
