Chapter 4: Chapter Four:THE SHAME THAT HAUNTS
I was pregnant.
My stomach tightened. I didn't know who the father was, I couldn't remember anything about him and I didn't have an idea of what to do.
The days that followed were turbulent. I felt nauseous, my body heavy, and the placement on my chest was unbearable. I couldn't breathe, I couldn't live with this knowledge but it was there, growing inside me like a little life beginning to form.
Part of me wanted to hold it back but another part of me thought that maybe, just maybe, this would be my chance to find something pure, something untouched by the cruelty I had known my whole life.
But another part of me was scared, I fought to face the people I lived with, terrified to face myself.
I lived with my uncle, Marcus. He was cruel, his eyes always filled with contempt when they rested on me. He never wanted me around but the tragic death of my parents left me in his care.
It was clear that he only saw me as a burden, he would have rather sent me away than deal with the problems of an Omega like me.
But now, with this secret growing inside me. I Couldn't hide it anymore. Soon, my body would betray me, a round belly would appear, and the whispers would begin.
It didn't take long.
At first, it was subtle. A change in my attitude, in the way I moved; my clothes didn't fit anymore, and my stomach, although small, began to curve out, reminding me every day of the terrible mistake I made. I couldn't hide anymore, the whispers began.
"Have you seen Emerald today?"
"She seems... different. Don't you think so?"
"Maybe she's sick. Or maybe…"
"Impossible. She's probably hiding the truth; it's obvious, isn't it?
Those words hurt me. I could hear them on every corner, in every room I entered, on the road, at the market, and on the street. People were looking and gossip soon started spreading all around before I was even allowed to speak.
But it wasn't until my uncle found out that the real nightmare began. I had tried to stay in my corner, hoping the noise would die down, that maybe I could go unnoticed.
But one evening, when I entered the small house where we lived, the air seemed heavier. There was tension in the room, something cold and suffocating.
Uncle Marcus was standing by the window with his back to me. He didn't turn around when I entered.
"Uncle?" My voice was only a whisper, but that was enough to get his attention. He turned towards me and the moment his eyes rested on me ...I knew.
He knew.
I don't even need to say it. The expression on his face was enough; his eyes darkened, and his face tightened in disgust. The silence was thick, suffocating.
"What is this?" He asked in a voice as cold as ice.
I froze on the spot and my body was shaking. The words were stuck up in my throat but I couldn't get it out.
"I …. didn't want this to happen" I stammered, my voice shaking with fear," I don't know what happened... Believe me, I don't"
No sooner had I said these words that he leaped forward, his fist slamming against the table. The force of his blow made the plates vibrate, making me tremble.
" Don't lie to me, Emerald!" his voice was low, dangerous." You have ruined this house, you've ruined me"
I opened my mouth to speak but he cut me off with another yell," You embarrassed me! You embarrassed me in front of the whole Pack and now you are bringing a child who doesn't even know his father? You worthless girl!"
My heart was drumming madly against my chest and my legs felt weak. I wanted to run or hide but I had nowhere to go. He walked to me, his eyes burning with anger.
"Do you think you are special? That you can get away like this? Nobody wants you here, Emerald; you mean nothing to me."He spat, my throat tightened as tears burned my eyes.
The reality of the situation hit me suddenly, a suffocating weight fell on my chest. I was nothing, I always had been nothing.
"Uncle, please," I whispered, trying to make him understand," I'm sorry, please forgive me"
"Forgive you?" he laughed bitterly, his voice clear with venom, " Sorry doesn't solve this. This doesn't solve the shame you've brought to this family, you have destroyed all my hard work"
Before I could say another word, his hand was on mine, gripping my arm with an iron grip." You worthless child! " He growled, his nails digging into my skin," you are a shame. Do you think I'll let you keep this child? Let that bastard live? I won't, you hear me?
The pain of his words was stronger than the pain in my stomach, I felt as if I was being done apart. He pushed me towards the door with his hands, rough and merciless.
"Get out of my sight, leave this house and you will never return!" I will not tolerate your shame any longer"
I stumbled backward, my body shaking. The world around me spoon has my legs give away underneath me. But as the rage in his eyes intensified, I knew I had nothing here anymore.
I ran.
I didn't know where I was going or how I was going to survive but I couldn't stay, not in his house, not under his roof.
The streets were cold, the night dark, and the wind—it disturbed me. I was alone, alone in a world that had turned its back on me, and yet, deep in my despair, something essential inside me pushed me to keep moving forward. I couldn't stay.
I was pregnant. Alone. Refused. And now, I was running. As I stumbled into the darkness, the loud sound of twigs crunching under my feet filled the silence. But then I heard something else— something that chilled my blood.
A howl. Far away at first but then getting louder, closer.
Rouges!
