Chapter 7: The Third Test (Part 3)

Chapter 7

I walked back toward Kevaughn and the others while stretching slightly, my muscles unwinding after the fight. Taking my place next to Sarah, I noticed the group's gaze fixed on me.

"What?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.

"You held back," Kevaughn said, his tone a mix of surprise and disbelief.

"You're surprised? Of course, I held back," I replied, confused by their reactions.

"Dear God, is the world ending?" Daniel said, mockingly looking around the room.

"Okay, the fuck? What's with your reactions?" I asked, crossing my arms.

"Brother, the last time someone insulted you, you nearly killed them," Sarah pointed out dryly.

"What are you talking about?" I asked, frowning.

"I'm pretty sure your exact words were—and I quote—'I'll rip you limb from limb,' end quote," Shaheem added with a smirk.

I sweat-dropped at their comments, looking away with a cough to hide my embarrassment.

"Anyway, did any interesting fights happen during mine?" I asked, quickly changing the topic.

The group shrugged in unison.

"No," they answered collectively.

"Ah, okay then," I said, turning my attention to the new batch of fights.

The platforms were alive with energy as fighters clashed, each showcasing their unique abilities.

A slender girl with silver hair and glowing blue eyes faced off against a muscular boy with wild, windswept hair. The girl summoned jagged crystal pillars from the ground, sending them hurtling toward her opponent like spears.

The boy grinned, his hands weaving intricate patterns in the air. A powerful gust swirled around him, shattering the crystal projectiles mid-flight. He countered by forming a vortex that lifted the girl off her feet, spinning her in mid-air.

With a flick of her wrist, the girl created a massive crystal wall that exploded into shards, disrupting the vortex and giving her a chance to land gracefully. She launched a flurry of razor-sharp crystal spikes, but the boy rode a stream of wind, dodging effortlessly before sending a tornado toward her.

The fight ended when the boy condensed a massive air hammer and slammed it into the ground, knocking the girl out of the ring.

On the second platform, a tall, elegant boy with golden eyes clashed with a stocky, earth-manipulating girl. He summoned streams of molten gold, shaping them into gleaming weapons.

The girl retaliated by raising walls of solid rock, blocking the attacks. She stomped the ground, sending jagged spikes of earth toward her opponent. The boy sidestepped, his molten gold forming a shimmering shield that deflected the attack.

The fight escalated when the boy created a golden whip, wrapping it around her leg to trip her. She countered by encasing herself in a suit of rock armor, breaking free and charging at him with devastating force.

In the end, the boy used his molten gold to create a cage around her, forcing her to yield.

Eventually, two surprising names were called up.

"Sarah Green and Shaheem Phillips, make your way to platform three," Mr. Xavier announced.

"Huh?" both Sarah and Shaheem said in unison, blinking in confusion.

"Well, it seems you two are up," Kevaughn said, smirking.

"I don't want to fight Shaheem," Sarah complained, crossing her arms.

"Same," Shaheem added lazily, yawning.

"Well, you two don't have a choice. Now go," I said, giving them a firm push toward the platform.

They both glared at me but reluctantly walked to the platform. Hopping onto the stage, they stretched lazily before standing across from each other. Sarah assumed a low fighting stance, while Shaheem stood casually, hands in his pockets.

"Begin!" Mr. Xavier shouted.

Shaheem and Sarah vanished, reappearing in the center of the platform with their legs clashing mid-air, creating a shockwave that rippled outward. Shaheem grabbed Sarah's leg, using his other foot to push off the ground. He flipped, throwing Sarah toward the platform with surprising force.

Sarah caught herself mid-fall, landing on her hands before flipping backward and vanishing again. She reappeared behind Shaheem, her foot aimed at his head.

"Predictable," Shaheem said, raising his arm to block the kick. He placed his palm against her stomach, and a surge of a mix white, black and Purple flames exploded outward, sending Sarah skidding across the platform.

"Not bad," Sarah muttered, regaining her balance. She vanished again, reappearing above Shaheem, aiming for a devastating dropkick.

Shaheem sidestepped, the impact of Sarah's kick cracking the platform and kicking up a cloud of dust. He appeared beneath her, delivering a powerful uppercut to her chin that sent her flying into the air.

"Still not enough," Shaheem said, leaping after her.

Sarah recovered mid-air, holding out her palm as dozens of lightning swords materialized around her. "Let's see how you handle this!" she shouted, launching the swords toward Shaheem.

"Cute," Shaheem replied, swinging his hand as a wave of flames erupted around him, colliding with the swords in a dazzling display of sparks and fire.

Sarah flipped backward, creating a solid air platform beneath her feet. She used it to propel herself forward at breakneck speed, grabbing Shaheem mid-flight.

"Oh, you're bold," Shaheem remarked, smirking as Sarah dragged him toward the platform.

Shaheem twisted mid-air, breaking free of her grip and spinning her toward the ground. She crashed into the platform with a deafening boom, leaving a crater in her wake.

He landed gracefully, standing over her with a spear of white, black and purple flames in his hand. "I win," he said confidently.

"Are you sure about that?" Sarah asked, smirking.

Shaheem frowned as his body was suddenly yanked into the air, bound by translucent chains.

"Fantasy Element Manipulation: Solid Air Chains," Sarah explained, standing up and brushing herself off.

"When did you—?" Shaheem asked, confused.

"When you threw me into the platform," Sarah said smugly.

Shaheem sighed, his body still bound. "Fine, I forfeit."

"Seriously? You've broken out of these chains before," Sarah said, raising an eyebrow.

"I know. I just don't want to," Shaheem replied with a shrug.

"You're ridiculous," Sarah muttered, releasing him.

"I know," Shaheem said, walking back to the group, completely ignoring the stunned looks from the other students.

"Hey, wait up!" Sarah called, running after him.
