Chapter 1. (2)

“You’re..late..” she said as she took a deep breath and revealed a large beautiful smile.

“Sorry, I just finished repelling the Berserker tribe’s attack at the South of the island.” He said as he tried to explain to his wife who was now currently looking at him with a bland expression.

“Right” he coughed awkwardly noticing Helga’s expression “we’ll talk about that later. For now let’s focus on getting out child.” He said as he approached the bedside and took Helga’s soft hand into his large rough meaty hands.

Helga nodded as once more under Torhil’s instructions; she pushed out while screaming in pain as she felt her birth canal forcibly enlarge to accommodate the baby. Despite being a great warrior, Helga could certainly swear that she had never experienced such immense pain before. It was even more painful than the time she had to seal a large wound on her arm by burning it with a hot poker. The current pain she was experiencing was truly one of a kind and it did make her respect the women in the village she had seen with five to six children as she wasn’t sure she would be able to do this again six more times and yet as she looked at the kind and supportive gaze of her husband beside her, she knew that she regretted nothing and if this was the pain she needed to endure to create for both of them a happy family then so be it.

Torhil who was currently positioned at the bed’s end with her head glancing at her private regions spoke in excitement “The baby is almost here Helga, just one more push.”

Helga clenched Bjorn’s hand tightly as she screamed aloud in pain while also giving a push so hard, she thought she might actually shit herself instead.

Her thoughts were disrupted by the sound of a large cry of outburst that filled the room. She glanced around only to see that the noise was coming from a small baby currently being held up by Torhil. The baby was covered in blood and other bodily fluids as his backside was currently facing her hiding its face. Torhil gently wrapped the crying baby in a woollen blanket and brought it to Helga who stretched her arms to receive it.

“Congratulations Helga, it’s a beautiful baby boy.” Congratulated Torhil as she glanced kindly at Helga who was looking at her child with a beaming smile.

“Are you seeing this Bjorn? In my arms is my son, no, our son” softly whispered Helga as she glanced at Bjorn who also wore a happy smile.

“I can see him clearly Helga, what a beautiful son we have. He surely gets his looks from you especially his beautiful purple eyes.”

“Yes but he has your spirit husband.” She said as she looked down at her son who was now quiet and peacefully sleeping with his fist clenched tightly around his blanket.

“Look at how adorable he looks with his clenched fists, he will surely become a great warrior someday just like his father.” Said Helga

“And his mother” added Bjorn

“So what do you think we should name him?” asked Bjorn.

“I already have a name… Tuweryn. It means child of the gods.”

“Tuweryn…I like it” approved Bjorn as he glanced at the little Tuweryn who was fast asleep.

“Welcome to the family Tuweryn”

*********

A few years had passed since the birth of Tuweryn and during that period of time, the Viking village on the island had undergone various changes from new defenses being built around the village to deal with the aggressive beasts that have been bothering the village for quite a while to having to deal with attacking neighbouring villages. This was because  Darwan island, the place where the village was located, possessed extremely fertile soil and a good climate which supported the growth of various edible plants which in turn supported the rearing of livestock. This enabled Ragna village to enjoy the benefits of a good climate, lots of vegetables and meat which was something uncommon for most villages in the Archipelago, the area of the world where they lived, hence the reason why some villages were trying to destroy Ragna village and take over the island for themselves. After all most if not all of the villages in the Archipelago were comprised of Vikings who believed in the philosophy of survival of the fittest.

However unfortunately for them, Ragna village possessed extremely strong warriors most of whom were descended from the great Vikings Ragnar Lothbrok (the man who the village was named after), Ivar the Boneless, Bjorn Ironside (whom the current chief was named after), Lagartha Lothbrok and many more who were said to be favored children of the Norse gods resulting in a lineage of strong and powerful Vikings and the current chieftain Bjorn Lothbrok the 8th was a direct descendant of Ragnar Lothbrok himself who was the founder of the village and just like him, he too possessed a large build, great strength and great skill in combat which he applied in defending the village from both men and beasts alike.

In the village, a young boy could be seen running in the village heading towards the training grounds on the North side of the village. The boy had short black hair and dark brown skin with purple eyes. He had a slightly larger body due to his upbringing but he couldn’t be considered fat rather simply a mass of meat and muscle which was common among strong Viking children.

The boy ran past a few Vikings who were busy going about their daily lives some of whom greeted him and some who asked where he was rushing off to but the mocking smiles on their faces clearly indicated that they knew where he was rushing off to and that he was already in deep trouble for being late.

The boy never stopped even when dealing with the other villages as he knew he had screwed up by waking up late today which normally wouldn’t have mattered but today was an important day for every child in the village as it was the day the Viking children began their training and him being late to his first day was bad but being late as the chief’s son was inconceivable.
