74 Divine Cat Mii-chan, Can’t Sleep Due to the Heat
At the village gate, I showed our handprints to the guards, greeted the village chief, and arranged for a place to stay. I also got permission to use the well.
I unloaded everyone and took off Sumire’s saddle, placing water and feed in a trough. Mii-chan and the wolf cub are playing, while the black leopard, now in his black cat form, watches over them.
After setting up the tent with Peo, I prepared the meal. I had Mii-chan gather firewood, and I lit a fire to roast the Forest Bear meat. I’m nearing my limit, fighting off sleepiness…
I served the meat in two sizes: large pieces and small ones. I prepared a can of cat food for Mii-chan, skewers and sandwiches from the food stall for Peo, and offered a plate with large meat pieces and two-thirds of the cat food can to the black leopard. The remaining third of the cat food went on a plate with the small meat pieces for the wolf cub.
“Please, enjoy your meal. I’m going to sleep now.” I collapsed into the tent and surrendered to sleep.
When Peo woke me up, the seventh bell was ringing. It was dark outside but still hot.
I started preparing dinner. I’m doing the same thing as earlier, but I shouldn’t worry about that. Everyone is waiting for their food. I boiled water in a pot, added vegetables and meat, thickened it with milk and flour, and seasoned it with salt. The meat was separately grilled and lightly coated with garlic oil.
Mii-chan had her cat food, and Peo and I had bread. After serving everyone, I said,
“Let’s eat.”
“Meow.”
“Let’s eat!”
“Meow.”
“Woof.”
We enjoyed the cream stew and meat thoroughly.
Even though dinner has just ended, it’s time for our usual bath. It’s so hot and I’m sweating, so I’d like to join…
First up is Mii-chan. Let her show how pleasant a bath can be.
Next is the black leopard. Since he’s in his black cat form, he’s easy to wash. As I cleaned him thoroughly, I realized he’s actually a girl.
Third is the wolf cub. He was quite restless at first, but after the black leopard gently scolded him, he became much calmer.
Fourth is Peo. He should wash himself.
“Why meow? Peo wants to be washed too meow!”
“Then turn into a cat. It’s easier that way.”
“Fine, Nero is so demanding meow.”
I gave Peo a thorough wash. I hope I’m not being too harsh.
Finally, Sumire, the main event. I used all the water from the leather water pouch to give her a good wash, turning it into warm water. I’m exhausted.
I just wiped myself down with a wet towel…
I cleaned all the dishes from dinner and now, it’s time for bed.
Before heading to bed, I think it’s time to name the black leopard and the wolf cub. What do you think?

Since the black leopard is a kind of subordinate to Mii-chan, how about naming him after one of Mii-chan’s associates?
“Since he’s Mii-chan’s subordinate, how about ‘Seraphim,’ shortened to ‘Sera’?”

“Meow.”
Wow, Mii-chan’s beaming with approval, and it seems like the black leopard is satisfied too. Now, onto the wolf cub. Since he’s a white wolf, how about:
“‘Haku’?”
“Mii…”
Hmm, didn’t think that was a bad choice. How about a Japanese-inspired name for a wolf deity, like:
“‘Makami’?”
“Mii…”
Not quite right either, huh? Let’s try another wolf-related name:
“How about ‘Rudy’? You can call him ‘Roo-kun.’”
It looks like the names stuck!
“Sera” seems to be fitting well for the black leopard, and “Rudy” or “Roo-kun” is a hit with the wolf cub.
Sera is quite the powerhouse with skills like cat transformation, body enhancement, improved jumping, presence detection and suppression, aerial maneuvering, and sharp claws. The aerial maneuvering skill, in particular, allows for mid-air direction changes and double jumps—pretty impressive!
Rudy (Roo-kun) has the unique “Charmed Eyes” ability, which makes anyone who locks eyes with him want to cuddle him. Even without using the skill, he’s adorable enough to attract affection on his own. When tested, the charm was so effective that you found yourself hugging and fluffing him without even realizing it—truly a remarkable power.
Now, with everything sorted and the day’s activities done, it’s time to sleep. However, with everyone crammed into a one-person tent and the temperatures remaining high even at night, it’s uncomfortably hot.
Waking up in the middle of the night due to the heat, you tried to cool things down with some innovative solutions. Filling a plate with chilled mineral water and creating a frozen version of it through a cooling trick helped. The pets seemed to enjoy the frozen treat:

“Meow~”
Using frozen bottles wrapped in towels to keep everyone cool was a clever move. Hopefully, this setup will help everyone sleep more comfortably until morning.
Sera doesn’t seem to express much emotion, but it looks like he’s happy. I wrapped him around my neck while sleeping—so refreshing!
The next morning, I woke up feeling hot. I was cuddled by Peo in cat form. It’s quite impressive how skillfully Peo can cuddle in cat form. Rudy was sleeping on my stomach… It’s so hot.
After a refreshing bath at the borrowed well, I prepared breakfast. I received four eggs from a villager, so I made bacon and sunny-side-up eggs. I also grilled some meat for Sera and gave Rudy a third of a can of cat food. They were happily eating.
“Yummy!”
“Mii~”
I packed up the tent, prepared Sumire, and set off. Today, we’re heading to a city called Nix by the lakeside. I expect to arrive there by early afternoon with Sumire.
While Sumire is running, it’s cool, but it gets immediately hot once we stop for lunch. I’ve already taken off my coat, but Peo and I definitely need summer clothes.
I wonder if Mii-chan and the others will grow summer fur?
