The Strongest Brain in the Interstellar

Chapter 209 - Recklessness

‘Still too reckless.’ Stark’s usually solemn face unconsciously showed a trace of shallow helplessness.

Laughter came from a corner of the instructor’s seating area.

“How did she come up with this idea? She hasn’t even figured out the situation, and yet those two idiots actually listened to her.” Captain Lin Qi couldn’t hold back and laughed out loud.

“Too clever for her own good.” Zou Yi snorted, but surprisingly didn’t say anything worse.

After all, every action of the students was under their watchful eyes, and naturally, their performance in the competition was being observed as well.

Though it was only natural that they would focus more on their own students, Jiang Hui, as the current leader of the competition, was definitely the center of attention for many of the instructors. Her performance, along with that of Huan Xian and Zhou Xiuwen, had been closely watched by everyone.

Jiang Hui’s performance wasn’t flawless by any means, and it could be said that there were many flaws. However, for a young person who hadn’t received formal training, she far exceeded their expectations.

Her shooting, rough design and arrangement, quick thinking, decisiveness, and even her team cohesion were all quite impressive. While none of these could be said to be at the highest level, for a freshman who had not yet undergone formal training, it was already remarkable and outstanding.

What was even more impressive was that, at the same time, she possessed enough resilience and determination. This was the quality that the instructors saw in her, one that was rare and difficult to cultivate later in life.

A warrior should not only possess outstanding combat abilities but also enough resilience—resilience that can support him through long years of burdens, allowing him to march forward even with wounds and blood covering his body.

It seemed that this young person was naturally endowed with such qualities: silent and resilient. But her actions spoke louder than any words, demonstrating a strength that surpassed any noise. Even when her own safety was in jeopardy, she still refused to abandon her teammates, who had become a burden.

Such performance was enough that even Zou Yi, who was always picky and critical, had nothing to say. After all, he had once been a soldier on the battlefield himself. Even though the flames of war he had been through were nowhere near as intense as Stark’s, he was still a soldier.

He could mock Stark with sarcasm and competitiveness during their usual idle moments, but he never underestimated the contributions Stark had made as a soldier for the Empire. Despite their personality clashes, he held the highest respect for his fellow comrades who served in the Empire’s military.

However, Zou Yi was also proud and arrogant, so he never liked to lower his head.

This twisted emotion and mindset extended to his view of Jiang Hui.

Seeing her leading by a wide margin thanks to the compensation points, ahead of his prized student, Zou Yi naturally felt some resentment, initially thinking that Jiang Hui had just gotten lucky and snatched the honor of first place.

But when he truly calmed down and reviewed her performance, looking at her records and considering her actions throughout, Zou Yi had to admit, upon reflection, that the kid truly had undeniable talent.

Even his own prized student could not match her in some areas. At least his student was not as well-rounded as Jiang Hui. So, even though the compensation points were a factor, her position as the leader was, in some ways, indeed well-deserved.

After Zou Yi reluctantly acknowledged this point in his heart, the more he looked at Jiang Hui, the more he felt frustrated. Why couldn’t such a student be in his class, and why was she assigned to Stark? Clearly, she was an A-grade spiritual power user who had not fully awakened yet. A high-potential awakener like her should have been placed in the class with the best aptitude.

Zou Yi could hardly believe that Stark had no hand in this. Thinking about what Stark had said earlier in the principal’s office to Carl and his son, Zou Yi felt even more uncomfortable. It seemed as if something that should have belonged to him had been taken away. At the same time, he couldn’t help but feel frustrated with his own students, who were not living up to expectations and could not stand out. All the glory had been taken by others, which made him angry.

So, when he saw Jiang Hui make a wrong judgment and put Huan Xian and Zhou Xuwen in an unknown, dangerous situation, he found himself oddly pleased. At least he had caught her making a mistake.

So, this was also a reckless kid. It seemed he had overestimated her.

The supply chest’s orbital layout was intricate and dangerous due to the terrain. Not only had they taken the risk of sitting on top of the box, but they had also fixed themselves onto it. Was it really going to slide down the slope, fall at a right angle, or even hang upside down? That was far too dangerous.

If they hadn’t fixed themselves in place and fell off, wouldn’t that mean complete failure? They wouldn’t even have to fight anyone—they’d be eliminated just like that.

This was also why the instructors found it somewhat amusing. All along, they had seen Jiang Hui proceeding calmly. No matter when or where, it seemed like she never showed the slightest ripple of emotion or panic. After watching for so long, they were starting to feel bored and just wanted to see when she would make a mistake.

“However, this idea is quite clever. It might actually be useful,” Lieutenant Zap commented as he watched the three of them spinning rapidly with the box.

“Isn’t this a bit unsafe? They’re too impulsive. We don’t even know how effective the protective capabilities of the simulated body armor are. It’s really dangerous,” Instructor Tan said, genuinely concerned. Having spent his whole life in a laboratory, he had never truly been in the military and couldn’t fully understand the mindset of real soldiers.

As the three of them were lifted by the box to a height of several dozen feet on the rocky mountain, and then uncontrollably began to slide down the slope, Instructor Tan felt his heart rise with each of their ups and downs.

Did Professor Dennis not consider that some bold and mischievous kids might operate it this way when he designed this? It was really too dangerous.

They didn’t have any other protective equipment on them. If they fell, they would only rely on the simulated vest to protect them. But that vest was just a modified standard B-level protective tool, which didn’t even meet the minimum military standard. What would happen if something went wrong?

Instructor Tan looked at Stark, hoping to get the class leader’s agreement, but Stark seemed to be completely ignoring the kind-hearted laughter and discussions around him. He was solely focused on watching the three of them struggling on the screen, looking deep in thought.

“That guy must have thought of this. Such a bad sense of humor, and he didn’t even warn his teammates. Doesn’t he remember that he has to sit on it too? Isn’t this just asking for trouble?” Min Hao said, furious, as he watched the three sit on the box, completely unaware, and foolishly added a layer of fixed protection for themselves.

He was different from the others. Having had several conversations with Huan Xian before, he had gained some understanding of his personality. Apart from that terrifying, almost inhuman ability, Huan Xian had a rather dark sense of humor.

He must have done it on purpose.
