Chapter 239 - Time Difference (1)
“This is really unlucky. How did we end up with such an energy point? 20%, it’s worse than getting a refill earlier,” the group inside energy point L1 complained lightly.
Currently stationed here was a formal team. Actually, there were supposed to be two teams here initially. The two teams met each other at this point, but neither side had the upper hand, as both teams were roughly equal in strength. If they fought, it would only result in damaging each other, with one side injuring a thousand but losing eight hundred in the process.
However, this 20% energy recharge was almost pointless, so they’d have to find another energy point soon, or they’d face running out of energy at any moment.
So one of the teams couldn’t stand it and decided to leave, leaving just this smaller team behind.
This team consisted of a commander student and four combat unit members, a rather traditional composition. Although their overall strength was somewhat inferior compared to some of the standout teams present, their team was well-balanced. If they coordinated properly, they could still be quite formidable.
However, they were also unlucky. Not only did they find themselves at such a limited energy point, but they also ran into Jiang Hui and her group, who didn’t play by the rules.
While everyone was focused on recharging, Jiang Hui’s team had a different idea—they decided to take advantage of the time difference and start roaming around, looking to collect a few kills for their own points.
“Where are you guys now?” the commander of the team asked.
“13%,” “15%,” “17%” … and his own was 18%. Suddenly, the commander’s fingers trembled.
Before the team members could react, they immediately heard the sound of someone getting shot.
In fact, the commander had already sensed something was wrong and had reacted quickly, but he didn’t have time to warn everyone in time. The enemy was prepared and attacked faster than they could react.
The one who got shot was the commander himself, the one most aware of the situation. In a very short amount of time, the rest of the team still hadn’t managed to respond effectively, and this relatively weak team member, whose physical fitness was lacking, was hit again for a second time.
The other four members could only panic as they realized their team only had one chance left.
Although forming a formal team could bring great advantages to everyone—on the surface, at least—the premise was that all five members didn’t have any major weaknesses. If one of them had a significant flaw, it would become a target for the enemy to exploit, and no matter how strong the others were, they wouldn’t be able to save the entire team.
This team had four combat unit members, all of whom had met certain standards for mental strength, physical fitness, and performance, regardless of their class. Their only weakness was the commander from the command department.
As for the commander, his mental strength was above average, which is why he made it into the command department, but his physical fitness and adaptability were lacking, making him a significant liability in the team.
Naturally, Jiang Hui chose him as her target.
In less than a second, Jiang Hui fired two shots, both hitting the commander with perfect accuracy. One more shot, and this team would be out.
Just as Jiang Hui was aiming at a quickly repositioning contestant, the man carrying her, Huan Xian, gently nudged her rifle with his finger: “Shoot the one beside him. Their commander is adjusting their formation.”
Without hesitation, Jiang Hui followed his advice, pulling the trigger: Bang!
The five people inside the energy point froze as if someone had hit the pause button. Immediately, they all collapsed to the ground in unison, as if they had coordinated. Zhou Xiuwen, who had been watching the map, looked up and confirmed, “They’ve been eliminated. We can go now.” He called to Huan Xian, signaling for him to bring over Xierman, who had been hiding.
Huan Xian and Jiang Hui continued on toward the next energy point.
“No matter how many times I see it, it’s still so brutal…” Xierman, who was carrying Clarens and couldn’t participate in the hunt, had been hiding with him on the other side. It was only Jiang Hui who had taken action earlier.
They were at L3, quite close to the L1 energy point. After traveling about six or seven minutes worth of distance, they reached the vicinity of L1. Since this energy point had fewer people and the terrain was simple, it was easy for Jiang Hui to handle it alone while Huan Xian provided some support. Throughout the entire process, Zhou Xiuwen, Xierman, and Clarens, who was still unable to move, stayed hidden, allowing the other two to clear the area.
The whole thing went relatively smoothly, taking less than two star minutes to resolve. The group didn’t bother picking up any resources because it wasn’t necessary; they focused on getting to their next destination.
Interestingly, the nearest energy point to L1 was L1 itself. Beyond that, it would take another thirteen or fourteen star minutes to reach L6. From L6 to L11, it would take about fifteen or sixteen star minutes. This meant that traveling from L3 to L11 would take at least half an hour of star time. Half an hour was a long time, and a lot could change. Not only would the group at L7 begin to move, but other contestants would likely start moving as well. There wouldn’t be much time left for them.
By now, everyone understood the seriousness of the situation. No one was chatting on the road. They eliminated several wandering soldiers who hadn’t reached the main energy block yet, and finally managed to make it to the L6 energy block’s range. At this point, almost 30 star minutes had passed since the second round of resupply had started.
Now, most of the contestants who had been stationed at the energy points to recharge began to move.
——————————————
At a point L5 in the northeastern region, where the crowd was relatively sparse, the Lava siblings, ranked ninth and fifteenth, were also looking up at the overall score leaderboard in the sky.
Since the leaderboard had appeared, it had been exceptionally eye-catching, almost impossible to ignore. The Lava siblings believed that at this moment, many others were probably looking up at the top three with the same feeling of awe and helplessness.
Although the small competition at the start of the semester wasn’t anything major and there were differences in individual abilities, the gap between people seemed too big!
The top three were like towering mountains pressing down on them, clearly ahead of them, making them question whether their education had been flawed. After all, they had been accepted into Beska Intermediate Academy because of their outstanding academic performance, so why were they so far behind those top-ranked individuals?
However, the Lava siblings weren’t too bothered by this. They came from an ordinary family in the permanent star system, though their family was fairly wealthy and their parents were open-minded. They had always been able to afford the education they wanted.
After their second awakening, they were accepted into Beska Intermediate Academy’s Combat Unit with excellent results. Reaching this stage was something many ordinary people from the permanent star system could only dream of.
Moreover, they believed that this was just the beginning. Perhaps they were temporarily outclassed by those prodigies, but with hard work, they were confident that they would one day shine in their own way. It was only a matter of time.
However, given their current abilities, it would be better for them to avoid direct confrontation for now. After all, none of them wanted to face that madman Huo Qi, nor did they want to compete against the top-ranked contestant whose assistant they had only heard of but never seen.
In the end, a competition is still about who has the highest total score.
At present, being stationed at the L5 energy point, far from the chaos of the battlefield, suited them well. It gave them the perfect opportunity to watch the fierce battle unfold from a distance.
