The Strongest Brain in the Interstellar

Chapter 28 - Strange Space (Part 1)

This is ridiculous—
But deep down, Jiang Hui actually began to believe it a little.

She looked at the screen and then at the test tube, then tentatively thought that there should be a label on the test tube, with a white background and red frame, containing two lines of incomprehensible interstellar terminology.

Sure enough, the test tube changed again, and a white background with a red frame sticker appeared on the front of the test tube, right in front of her. It looked quite decent, though it seemed a bit wider than she remembered, and the text was also blurry and hard to read.

As she thought this, the edges of the sticker and the text in the middle began to blur, as if it wanted to change but didn’t know how.

She looked back at the screen, and indeed, a third line of code appeared.

‘Modify template, modify appearance, two layers of sticker… shape… text blurry and unrecognizable… currently verifying data… proofreading changes… main consciousness interference… unable to identify, unable to identify… third modeling completed.’

Jiang Hui suddenly looked back at the test tube in her hand and saw that the label on it had been slightly adjusted. The width was a bit narrower than before, but the unclear characters in the middle had changed into a clear line of text: “Mental Stabilizer,” written in Blue Star’s script.

Of course, she had just been thinking that the terminology on the label of the interstellar mental stabilizer was too complex, and she had fleetingly remembered it, but not firmly. She could barely recreate it from memory, but it felt a bit cumbersome to do so. It was also tiring to look at, so she thought of simply switching it to a Huachao language label. And sure enough, it really manifested right there.

An interstellar product paired with the characters of China looked rather strange.

Yet this impossible combination sparked something in Jiang Hui’s mind, and her thoughts became clearer.

Could it be that in this place, her thoughts could manifest as reality? That whatever she wanted, she could have, and the medium to achieve it was this computer?

A space that seemed to grant wishes.

Jiang Hui’s mind was no longer chaotic; she began to truly contemplate where this place was.

Where is this? Is it really the afterlife she had imagined? Or had she not actually died a second time? If she was still in the interstellar world… then where exactly is this?
Could this be her consciousness space?
Jiang Hui’s mind was starting to feel a bit tangled.

Moreover, after that strange round of experimentation, although she felt a surge of curiosity, inexplicably, both her body and mind were weighed down by a sense of fatigue, making her suddenly lose the desire to do anything, as if her energy had been completely drained.

She put down the test tube and slumped into the office chair, tilting her head back, trying to relieve the sudden wave of weariness that had washed over her.

She was just so tired.

Time passed little by little, and the entire room became quiet. The clock on the wall ticked steadily, marking the passage of time that continued to flow.

In the room, only the sound of her steady breathing remained—she had fallen asleep.

When she awoke again…

The girl seemed startled from her dreams, her weight shifting backward, and the backrest of the office chair was bouncy, almost causing her to lose her balance and fall over.

She had slept in a bit of a daze and only avoided crashing to the ground by instinct, but her mind took a while to catch up.

Huh? Why am I still here after waking up? Jiang Hui felt her earlier assumptions were about to be overturned.

If this was a dream in the interstellar world, then she wouldn’t still be here upon waking; after all, she had never heard of a dream being this real. She also hadn’t heard of nightmares occurring within dreams… Just as she had fallen asleep, she vaguely experienced a brief nightmare that had startled her awake.

Unable to sleep, Jiang Hui resigned herself to sitting up and began to wander around the house again.

As usual, she walked to the entrance and tried to open the front door. Good, it still wouldn’t budge.

She didn’t dwell on it for too long since she had already expected this outcome.

Giving up on the door, Jiang Hui quickly turned back into the house.

Her family home was a typical three-bedroom apartment. When her parents bought it, they specifically chose a large one, nearly spending all their savings and even taking on additional debt.

The spacious living room had a balcony, but at present, the balcony was blocked off by the mutated computer, making it impossible for her to get out.

The three bedrooms were on either side of the living room, and one corner housed the kitchen and dining area.

Jiang Hui had originally lived in the medium-sized room; the other two were the master bedroom and the study.

After she started working, she chose to move into the former master bedroom, keeping the study intact while leaving the other room vacant.

She first checked the master bedroom, which had mostly remained unchanged. Many items were actually cleaner than she remembered, with much less clutter. The bedding was the same set from her memory—the dark-colored three-piece set she had bought a few days ago, which hadn’t been used for long. The skincare and makeup products on the vanity were arranged exactly as they had been before. The family photo on the bedside table still shone brightly, just like in the past… It seemed like nothing had changed.

Then, she walked to the only window in the room and pulled back the curtains. Outside was a pitch-black void; it was the kind of darkness where nothing could be seen, and the window couldn’t be opened from the inside either.

Jiang Hui sighed quietly, as the last flicker of hope in her heart was completely shattered. So this was ultimately not her home on Blue Star; even though it had the same appearance, it was clearly not the same—

After quickly checking the master bedroom and not finding anything particularly different, she returned to the living room.

The living room looked exactly as she remembered it, with the kitchen, dining table, coffee table, and TV… Aside from the mutated computer on the floor-to-ceiling window, there really wasn’t much difference. She even tried to turn on the TV, but of course, it didn’t work either.

The kitchen was about the same, with some instant foods and snacks in the cabinets, and fresh vegetables in the fridge. Even the ice cream in the freezer looked sweet and tempting; everything felt as if it truly existed.

After finishing her exploration of this side, she wandered to the other side.

In fact, there wasn’t much to see on the other side either; one room was an empty room that was practically a storage space, while the other was the study filled with various books that Jiang Hui loved.

However, as soon as she opened the study, she noticed something was off. She had grown up loving to read, and even though she didn’t choose to pursue a literary career in adulthood due to the realities of life, she still held a literary passion in her heart, and her daily life included reading.

This room held every book she had ever read and cherished at every stage of her life, not a single one was discarded. Over the years, she had added new ones and often came to browse through them. So, this room could be said to be the place she used most frequently apart from her bedroom.

However, this time when she entered, she found that the study was different.
