Chapter 35 - Appointment
In the early morning, Jiang Hui suddenly opened her eyes while lying in bed. The quilt and pillows had been kicked around during the night, resulting in a chaotic mess.
The leather book she had received yesterday had slipped from the silky bedding to the floor, and the edges had become slightly worn, though not very noticeable.
Please don’t misunderstand; Jiang Hui had no intention of treating the belongings of the original owner or her father casually. The book had been flipped through so many times that it ended up like this because she hadn’t slept at all the previous night.
The long night felt endless, and she had nearly worn the book out from all her flipping.
Perhaps because of the development of mental powers in this interstellar world, she felt that her memory and imagination were better than ever before. After going through the book multiple times, she had managed to thoroughly comprehend it. Jiang Hui swore that if someone were to randomly quiz her on a section now, she could probably answer correctly.
However, the problem was that Jiang Hui didn’t want any of that; she just wanted to sleep.
Another night of insomnia had passed.
Jiang Hui was unsure what exactly was happening to her; she even began to suspect that it might be a side effect of the mental stabilizers she had taken. She had searched the forums last night, but unfortunately, no one mentioned experiencing such side effects.
Unable to figure out the situation, she felt it was inappropriate to call the hospital in the middle of the night since it wasn’t really a serious issue.
Reluctantly, she had chosen to pass the time by flipping through books, hoping to hypnotize herself into sleep. Unfortunately, the more she read, the more alert and excited she became, making her head spin as she etched the information into her mind over and over again before finally giving up.
By the time the sky outside began to brighten, Jiang Hui still hadn’t fallen asleep.
However, as the saying goes, “Once is an accident, twice is a pattern.” She had already experienced it once, so the second time didn’t come as a surprise.
She calmly sat up in bed, enjoying the sunlight streaming in from the windows. Surprisingly, she felt quite energized, and the tension she had held for the entire night gradually eased.
Well, it’s no big deal. It’s just insomnia, after all. Jiang Hui thought to herself.
Today, she found that she was getting more familiar with her surroundings in the house and had adapted to various things that were different from Blue Star.
She even learned how to brew interstellar coffee. This was a drink she discovered in the living module yesterday, called bean juice… The translation from interstellar language to Blue Star language should be correct.
It is said to be derived from a mutated primitive coffee bean, belonging to a type of spice bean that has the same effects as coffee. Not only does it wake you up, but its caffeine content tends to be zero.
Accompanied by bread and coffee, Jiang Hui started her new day of study.
First, she checked her light brain to see if anyone had contacted her, and then she looked at the news pushed to the headlines on the light brain.
After that, she searched for the contact information of a medium hospital in her area and directly called the Rehabilitation Department to inquire about her insomnia.
The person who answered at the hospital was very polite. They were attentive and patient, providing detailed explanations. However, they also informed Jiang Hui that the mental stabilizers she had taken did not cause insomnia as a side effect.
Furthermore, since the brain regions of interstellar beings had developed to a relatively stable state, insomnia was a rare occurrence. Therefore, Jiang Hui’s insomnia could be considered abnormal.
After carefully reviewing her medical records and analyzing the medications and dosages she had taken, the staff at the Rehabilitation Department concluded that her condition was likely due to brain region damage.
Although she had already recovered, her brain region would still retain some mental excitation responses, and it was this excitement that caused her insomnia, which should not be a major issue. If Jiang Hui was still worried, her follow-up appointment was in about four days, when they could conduct another round of checks to see if she had fully healed.
With the hospital’s response, Jiang Hui felt much more at ease, but she still had a lingering doubt in her heart, sensing that the crux of the problem might not lie here. Unfortunately, she had no other answers in her mind, so she could only let it go.
Some things tend to cluster together; if one thing is absent, then nothing is present. However, once that first thread is pulled, a whole bunch comes along.
Just after Jiang Hui ended the call with the medium hospital, a message notification appeared.
It was a text message from Mr. Andy, politely asking if she was available to talk at that moment.
Jiang Hui guessed that the results from the Hailusi Group must have come out. She actually wanted to resolve this quickly, so she readily agreed, and soon after, a call came in from the other side.
“Ms. Jiang, good day!” Mr. Andy greeted her with his usual smile, and it was quite sincere.
Jiang Hui couldn’t help but feel that he was a really personable person, but unfortunately, his temperament seemed somewhat unsuitable for this line of work.
“You too, Mr. Andy. You seem to be in a good mood today. Did something happy happen to you?”
“Yes, but it should be good news for Ms. Jiang. I have already communicated your request to the group, and it has been unanimously approved by the board. The group has promised to accept your compensation plan and wants to sign the contract with you immediately.”
Oh, really?
This is indeed good news, but not because she would soon receive compensation; rather, it meant she could finally put an end to this mess and no longer have to deal with this ruthless group that had caused so much harm.
Moreover, for the original owner, this whole matter could be considered a tragedy. How could it be called good news?
Jiang Hui’s spirits were low, but in Andy’s eyes, it seemed she was just composed and unperturbed. This only enhanced his opinion of her.
The other party was probably used to Jiang Hui’s very calm demeanor and didn’t dwell on the issue. He continued, “Don’t worry, I’ve already discussed it, and your attitude was very firm. The board has also considered it and passed it unanimously; there won’t be any further obstacles.”
“However, you may still need to schedule a time to handle the subsequent matters with the group, including the signing of contracts, the compensation agreement, the donation agreement, and the confidentiality agreement. At that time, the group will arrange for you to receive immediate compensation…”
Andy had arranged everything thoroughly. Although she still had to make a trip to the Hailusi Group, Andy had also consulted her opinion on the matter.
Considering that she didn’t want these people to desecrate the original owner’s home, Jiang Hui decided to go to the Hailusi Group in person.
Before ending the call, Andy, for reasons unknown, subtly suggested that Jiang Hui should bring an experienced interstellar lawyer with her.
That was quite perceptive of him. Jiang Hui briefly entertained certain thoughts in her mind but maintained a calm expression, smiling faintly as she thanked him for the reminder before concluding the conversation.
