The Strongest Brain in the Interstellar

Chapter 5 - Strange Dream

The continued loss of body heat ultimately took away her consciousness, causing her to slip into a state of oblivion, unaware and unfeeling.

However, for some unknown reason, Jiang Hui could not find peace in her sleep. She felt a sharp, needle-like pain in her head, as if something was stirring and grinding inside her mind. This sense of foreignness made her react even in her unconscious state.

Jiang Hui was placed on an electric stretcher, and the accompanying medical staff monitored her vital signs while hastily pushing her into the emergency room.

At the moment, the child’s vital signs were very weak. The nearby life-signs circuit board emitted a long, slow “beep,” indicating that her vital signs were not strong but barely stable—though weakly stable at best.

Suddenly, the curve on the circuit board began to fluctuate violently, forming a jagged line that jumped up and down, with the peak nearly leaping off the screen.

“Ah?” This startled the accompanying medical staff greatly. Such abnormal vital signs often only appeared in severely injured patients whose heart rates could no longer be controlled and were on the brink of death. Moreover, this was a person who had not fully awakened; their heart rate and internal organ functions were quantifiable and should not fluctuate too much. Otherwise, it would indicate a serious problem with their spiritual state.

Jiang Hui might have both, which basically spells out a big “death” for her.
The medical staff accompanying her into the emergency room were in a state of panic.

“Quick, something must have gone wrong!”

“Is the treatment pod ready? Wait, we might have to handle her manually; have the tools been properly disinfected…”

“I’ve already opened everything over there; we can go through directly in a bit.”

“Get me the respirator, and check if they’re preparing the neural expansion agent… Forget it, just pull some over for now; we can deal with the details later, yes, yes…”

“Hey, her eyeballs have been moving since earlier, and her eyelids are twitching severely. Is she about to wake up?” But that wasn’t supposed to happen.

Unfortunately, their “hope” was dashed when the person on the electric stretcher finally opened her eyes, trembling eyelids and eyelashes, causing everyone to hold their breath in anticipation.

The girl had clear, shimmering eyes, long and enchanting in shape, with slightly curved outer corners and a light iris color; they were a classic example of peach blossom eyes. However, at that moment, her gaze was unfocused, and her expression appeared completely dazed.

“Ms. Jiang, you’re awake? How are you feeling?” A younger female medical staff member leaned closer to the girl and asked cautiously. She didn’t expect a response but wanted to gauge Jiang Hui’s consciousness based on her reactions.

“Hmm? Just a reflexive response… That’s good; her bodily functions still have some activity. Hurry and take her…”

At this moment, Jiang Hui was naturally unaware of the questions from those around her. Although she had opened her eyes, the “scenery” she saw was different from what others perceived. Before her was a landscape dominated by a white backdrop, but it wasn’t just a pure, empty white.

In addition to the hazy whiteness, many vague, strange lines crisscrossed, shifting in various directions, sometimes changing quickly, sometimes slowly, and occasionally returning to their original points.

Jiang Hui felt a strange sensation in her heart, coupled with an inexplicable instinctive fear towards these points and lines. She didn’t know what these glowing, constantly shifting things were, but she instinctively felt that they should not be touched or approached casually, lest something terrible happen.

Moreover, the flickering lines and patterns before her multiplied, forming vast overlapping shadows that seemed to press toward her in three-dimensional space.

She was very frightened, feeling as if she were encountering some unknown, terrifying entity. This was a presence beyond her current level of perception and interaction. Jiang Hui wanted to escape, but the strange torrent of energy refused to allow her any means of avoidance.

In the midst of this chaos, Jiang Hui lost consciousness once again, this time truly sinking into a realm of dark silence.
This time, she was genuinely dreaming.

In her dream, it seemed she had returned home. The small living space, which was neither large nor luxurious but gave a sense of comfort, appeared just as it always had. The living room was still simple and empty, the television in her room was still on, and even the calendar on the wall remained in the state she had left it when she tore off the last page that day.

However, the place where the incident occurred had undergone some changes. The computer on the desk was gone, and the instant noodles in the bowl were empty, the noodles dried and clumped together on the table, but another item had also vanished.

Jiang Hui quickly discovered its whereabouts: the floor-to-ceiling window beside the computer desk was also missing but had merged into something else.

A massive screen extended from the ceiling down to the middle of the room, with the lower half being a keyboard. The edges and connection points fit together well, which was a bit strange, but this gigantic computer didn’t seem out of place at all. It perfectly covered where the floor-to-ceiling window had originally been, so now the outside view was completely blocked.

The screen still displayed large strings of red gibberish; the characters were bold and large, strikingly prominent in an otherwise unremarkable room, making her dull mind suddenly snap to attention.

Jiang Hui: …

It really was a dream; otherwise, how could such a strange thing appear before her? Such a large computer! She didn’t know whether to say it was because her mind was still fixated on work, or that even now, when she was inexplicably tied up and unaware of where she was going, such a device would still appear. Or perhaps it was because she felt a pang of regret for the computer that might have already been damaged.

It was a brand-new computer, and she hadn’t even taken a single bite of the warm instant noodles yet.

Jiang Hui felt a sense of resentment, but her emotions seemed to be held back by a layer, making it difficult to express herself in this uncertain realm of whether it was a dream or reality. Both her mind and heart felt empty.

Just as Jiang Hui was lost in thought, the previously motionless screen began to move again, swiftly scrolling down, revealing a large patch of red.

By the time the girl managed to react and look over, a sharp alarm blared throughout the room, the piercing sound jolting her back to reality.

Then everything began to spin wildly, all the scenery changing and distorting as she was thrown out. Jiang Hui had only one thought: Was she really going to be stuck with the computer?!

“Ms. Jiang? Ms. Jiang, wake up! Are you okay…” someone called in her ear, continuously urging her, making her want to respond.

And then she woke up.

Returning to the world, the girl opened her eyes, her gaze focused and steady, landing on a large cylindrical object above her that wasn’t very high but completely enveloped her. Confusion settled in.

“She’s awake! She’s finally awake! This patient has been in a continuous coma for a star day after leaving the treatment pod for unknown reasons. This is her second time in the treatment pod, and it’s been two star hours since she came out. She’s awake… quickly, go call someone.”

So that dream earlier was just a dream… Then where was she now?
