The Supreme Overlord (Multicross)

Chapter 28: 28 No Magic? Its Fine!

"The Black Bible?!"

Upon hearing Aya Tokoyogi's words, Natsuki Minamiya's expression darkened significantly.

She parted her crimson lips, her voice faltering as she gazed at Aya with incredulity. "...Aya, do you even realize what you're doing?"

"...How can you use that forbidden grimoire, and on Itogami Island no less?!"

The Black Bible was notorious among mages and was considered one of the most terrifying grimoires ever collected by the Library of Criminal Organizations.

The spells within this tome could alter the 'laws' within a certain range, granting the user god-like control within that domain.

However, despite its power, the Black Bible was not impervious to being countered.

As with any spell, there was always the possibility of breaking it.

Moreover, the effects of the Black Bible were so exaggerated that the magical energy required to execute its spells was equally immense. Even a primogenitor would struggle to manifest its powers with their own magic.

Thus, the use of the Black Bible was time-limited. Its spells could only be activated when the stars were aligned correctly. Once that day passed, and astrology missed its window, the spells would dissipate.

From this perspective, even if someone used the Black Bible, it would be inconsequential as long as the night passed—the spells would vanish the next day.

But Aya's words clearly indicated to Natsuki that she intended to use the Black Bible to eradicate magical influence.

If this effect were applied elsewhere, it might not be problematic. But here, on an artificial island built on magic and magical technology, the situation was dire.

The island's ability to float in the Pacific depended entirely on magic, and many of its institutions and facilities operated through magical means.

If Aya were to activate the spell and envelop Itogami Island, even for a moment, the entire island could disintegrate and plummet into the ocean!

From a normal perspective, Aya's actions amounted to a full-blown act of terror.

"I know exactly what I'm doing, Natsuki!"

Facing Natsuki's accusations, Aya maintained a serene smile, her fiery eyes fixed on her ally. Her tone was tinged with sadness as she spoke.

"...This world was never meant to have magic. Magic is merely an intrusion brought by the Devas and Cursed Cain."

"What I aim to do is to restore truth to this world and reveal its true nature to everyone!"

"...Without the presence of magic, pure-blooded witches like us would never exist, nor would anyone sell their soul to the devil."

"Natsuki, we are allies. I will rescue you, liberate you from the devil's grasp, and reclaim your soul from its clutches!"

"...Join me, Natsuki! Stand with me and face the truth of this world together!"

Aya Tokoyogi gazed at Natsuki Minamiya with a pleading tone, hoping for a positive response.

At that moment, Natsuki was remarkably composed. She slowly shook her head and said, "...Sorry, Aya. There is one thing I cannot agree to."

"...If I were to agree to this, it would mean the sacrifice of the hundreds of thousands on Itogami Island."

"I know that the Library is classified as a terrorist organization by many countries, and I am aware of your past crimes elsewhere."

"...But as you said, we are allies. As long as you do not commit crimes on Itogami Island, I will turn a blind eye."

"After all, I am merely the special officer of Itogami Island, not a guardian of world peace... So, Aya, please come to your senses and do not do anything foolish."

Natsuki's personality was notoriously strong-willed, and she would not normally speak with such a pleading tone.

But Aya was an exception.

She was one of Natsuki's few, even arguably the only, true friends.

No matter how arrogant she might be, Natsuki found it hard to be harsh with a friend.

"I'm glad you said that, Natsuki, but my resolve will not waver."

"...I understand you, Natsuki. The fact that you are speaking this way already shows your weakness. But I know your resolve is equally firm."

"Since neither of us can convince the other, let us resolve this through battle!"

Aya's voice grew colder, "...But remember, Natsuki! While I have a purpose to prove my theory, my primary goal is to save you!"

Natsuki sighed, her gaze resolute. "...It seems we have no further words to exchange, Aya."

"...I will arrest you and confine you within the Prison Barrier for reflection!"

Upon hearing this, Aya covered her mouth with her delicate hand and chuckled, "...If you can manage that, today is the very day the stars align!"

"...Natsuki, I have been preparing for this day for many days. From the beginning, you had no chance of victory!"

As Aya's words fell, numerous mysterious patterns began to emerge on the walls of the classroom.

These patterns were all seals of the spell.

With the appearance of these patterns, several fixed stars in the sky began to shine with blinding light, and the patterns rapidly expanded, soon covering the entire school.

The spell's range continued to grow, spreading outwards from the school in all directions, and within this area, all magical fluctuations vanished.

It was clear that once the spell covered the entire Itogami Island, the island would sink into the ocean!

As the spell activated, Natsuki's expression changed. She immediately invoked her spatial manipulation spell, but what had once been smooth and effortless now became sluggish.

In an instant, just as the critical moment arrived, Natsuki Minamiya rolled away to avoid a black longsword slashing down from behind her.

A knight clad in black armor had appeared at some point behind Natsuki.

If Natsuki hadn't been an exceptional demon hunter, trained through rigorous trials, she would have been slain instantly by that strike.

"It's futile, Natsuki! All magic has vanished here. Even the primogenitors cannot contend with me within the range of the Black Bible."

"...In this area, only my magic remains."

"Surely you haven't forgotten? I am known as the Witch of the Notaria, capable of recording the magic of other sorcerers."

"...The spatial manipulation spells you excel at have already been recorded by me. Within this space, I can expertly control your spells!"

"You have already failed. Submit to my commands!"

As Aya Tokoyogi's words fell, the dark-clad knight reappeared behind Natsuki. By a hair's breadth, Natsuki dodged the knight's razor-sharp blade.

Natsuki's expression darkened. She realized that the spell Aya was using was familiar—indeed, it was the spatial manipulation spell she herself specialized in.

"In this space, even your guardians cannot appear. With no magic present, devils cannot manifest!"

"...I will rescue you from the clutches of demons. The price of this artificial island and the sins of killing six hundred thousand will be mine to bear!"

Aya Tokoyogi's demeanor was cold as she prepared for her guardian to subdue Natsuki.

"Although I personally have no feelings about the deaths of these six hundred thousand, as Natsuki-chan's watcher and guardian..."

"...I cannot allow her to die easily before our contract is fulfilled!"

The sudden voice made Aya's expression change dramatically. She turned to see the black flames coalescing behind Natsuki and exclaimed.

"...How is this possible? As a devil's servant, why can you manifest in this world devoid of magic?!"
