The Time a God of Destruction was reincarnated as a slime.

Chapter 29: Phase One - hand to hand

Finally, the day arrived for the much-anticipated Demon Lord Tournament, the first of its kind. The energy in the air was electric, and all eyes were on the tournament grounds in the depths of Ramiris's labyrinth, transformed into an awe-inspiring arena.

The arena itself was a masterpiece: a massive circular battlefield surrounded by enchanted stands filled with spectators from across the world. The terrain of the arena could change on command, adapting to each phase of the competition. Floating above the battlefield were glowing orbs, enchanted with projection magic to display the fights to the entire audience. With Ramiris's magic, the status of each contestant—EP (Energy Points), Power Level, and a glowing green Life Bar—was visible to all. The Life Bar acted as a gauge of vitality, decreasing with every hit until it emptied, signaling a loss. Also the way the vitality decreases also depends on the level of defense of the contestant.

The Structure of the Tournament

The tournament was divided into three phases, each designed to test the Demon Lords in a specific category of combat:

Hand-to-Hand Combat – A test of raw physical strength, reflexes, and martial skill.

Swordsmanship – A display of weapon mastery and finesse.

Magic Combat – A final showdown showcasing their magical prowess and strategic use of skills.

Each contestant's performance in these phases would determine where they stood in terms of overall strength and mastery.

The Opening Ceremony

Beerus himself presided over the event, seated on a throne at the highest point of the arena. Dressed in his regal robes, he radiated authority, his golden eyes scanning the crowd. Beside him sat Velzar, now Queen of Celesterra, her presence both elegant and intimidating. Ramiris hovered nearby, brimming with excitement as she oversaw the tournament's magical systems.

Beerus stood, and the crowd immediately fell silent. His voice, amplified by magic, echoed through the arena.

"Welcome, mortals and immortals alike, to the first-ever Demon Lord Tournament! Today, we witness the strongest of the Demon Lords and their aspirants prove their worth. Remember, this is not just a test of power—it is a test of spirit, skill, and resilience. Let the battles begin!"

Cheers erupted as Beerus waved his hand, signaling the start of the first phase.

Phase One: Hand-to-Hand Combat

The tournament officially began, and the arena shifted into a wide, rocky terrain. It was the perfect battleground for a close-combat fight, with uneven surfaces and boulders scattered around, making it challenging and dynamic. The crowd roared as the contestants took their places in the center, each radiating their unique aura of power.

The contestants for this phase were the elite of the world:

Guy Crimson, Draguel, Milim Nava, Luminous Valentine, Dino, Frey, Carrion, Clayman, and Beerus's generals—Alfa, Beta, Delta, Sigma, Zerna, and Erza.

These fighters represented the best of the best, and their presence alone sent chills down the spines of the spectators. This being the first Demon Lord Tournament, no one else dared to challenge them.

To ensure fairness and randomness, Ramiris used her magic to create a glowing orb that shuffled all the contestants' names. The lottery system would display two names at a time on the giant screen hovering above the arena. The crowd waited with bated breath as the orb spun faster and faster, then finally stopped.

First Match: Clayman vs. Frey

The names "Clayman" and "Frey" flashed on the screen, and the crowd let out a mix of cheers and laughter. Clayman paled visibly, his confidence draining as he looked over at Frey, who smirked and stepped forward with an air of superiority.

"Let's get this over with," Frey said, cracking her knuckles.

Clayman trembled but tried to put on a brave face. "I-I won't go down without a fight!"

The fight began.

Clayman dashed forward, trying to land the first blow, but Frey effortlessly sidestepped and countered with a swift punch to his gut, sending him skidding across the rocky ground. The audience winced as Clayman's Life Bar immediately dropped to 50%.

Desperate, Clayman summoned all his strength and charged again, throwing a flurry of punches, but Frey easily dodged every attack. With a single uppercut, she launched him into the air, then delivered a spinning kick that slammed him into the ground, his Life Bar depleting to zero.

"Winner: Frey!" Ramiris announced, her voice amplified across the arena.

The crowd erupted in cheers as Frey walked away, dusting off her hands. Clayman groaned in pain as he was escorted out of the arena.

Second Match: Milim Nava vs. Dino

The next names flashed on the screen: "Milim Nava" and "Dino".

Milim immediately jumped up, her excitement overflowing. "Finally, it's my turn!" she shouted, bouncing into the arena.

Dino, on the other hand, let out a sigh. "Great… why did it have to be her?" he muttered, dragging himself to his position.

The fight began.

Milim wasted no time, rushing at Dino with a devastating punch. Dino barely managed to dodge, the force of her strike creating a crater in the ground.

"Whoa, take it easy, Milim!" Dino said, trying to keep his distance.

But Milim was relentless. She closed the gap in an instant and delivered a spinning backhand that sent Dino flying into a boulder. His Life Bar dropped to 70%.

Dino tried to counter with a surprise attack, feinting a left hook and aiming a kick at her legs, but Milim caught his foot mid-air and slammed him into the ground.

"Give up yet?" Milim asked, grinning.

Dino groaned. "Not a chance…" He flipped back onto his feet and unleashed a series of quick punches, managing to land a solid hit on Milim's shoulder. Her Life Bar barely moved, and she retaliated with a powerful double punch that knocked him out cold.

"Winner: Milim Nava!"

The crowd roared as Milim raised her arms in victory, soaking in the applause.

Third Match: Guy Crimson vs. Carrion

When the next names appeared—"Guy Crimson" and "Carrion"—the atmosphere shifted. The tension was palpable. Carrion stepped into the arena with a confident smirk, while Guy walked in with a calm, composed demeanor.

"Let's see if the Beast King can keep up," Guy said, cracking his neck.

Carrion growled. "Don't underestimate me, Crimson."

The fight began.

Carrion charged forward with incredible speed, his fist glowing with energy as he aimed for Guy's chest. Guy caught the punch effortlessly, his expression unchanged, then twisted Carrion's arm and delivered a knee strike to his stomach. Carrion's Life Bar dropped slightly, but he retaliated with a headbutt, catching Guy off guard.

The two exchanged blows at lightning speed, their fists colliding with shockwaves that echoed through the arena. Carrion unleashed his beastly strength, managing to push Guy back.

But Guy smirked. "Not bad, but not good enough."

He surged forward with a devastating combo of punches and kicks, overwhelming Carrion. With a final spinning kick, he sent Carrion flying across the battlefield, his Life Bar dropping to zero.

"Winner: Guy Crimson!"

The crowd went wild as Guy walked away, his aura radiating dominance.

Fourth Match: Zerna vs. Erza

The next match was highly anticipated: "Zerna" versus "Erza", two of Beerus's most powerful generals. The crowd buzzed with excitement as the two women stepped into the arena, their auras clashing even before the fight began.

"You ready, Erza?" Zerna asked, smirking.

"Always," Erza replied, her eyes sharp with determination.

The fight began.

Zerna was the first to strike, her movements so fast they seemed to blur. Erza countered with incredible precision, blocking every hit and retaliating with a flurry of punches that forced Zerna to backpedal.

The two exchanged blows with such intensity that the ground beneath them cracked and shattered. Their Life Bars were evenly matched, neither willing to give an inch.

Zerna suddenly unleashed a powerful uppercut, sending Erza into the air, but Erza recovered mid-air and came down with a devastating punch that created a massive crater. Both fighters were pushed to their limits, but Zerna ultimately landed a critical hit that depleted Erza's Life Bar.

"Winner: Zerna!"

The crowd erupted into cheers, impressed by the sheer skill and power on display.

The Rest of the Matches

The remaining matches were equally thrilling:

Alfa vs. Beta: A brutal sibling rivalry ended with Alfa emerging victorious after a high-speed exchange of punches.

Draguel vs. Sigma: Draguel's overwhelming strength allowed him to dominate Sigma, securing his place in the next phase.

Delta vs. Luminous Valentine: Luminous's precision and elegance gave her the upper hand, defeating Delta with a final blow.

End of Phase One

By the end of the phase, the remaining contestants were Guy Crimson, Milim Nava, Frey, Luminous Valentine, Draguel, Zerna, and Alfa. The crowd was on the edge of their seats, eager to see what the next phase would bring.

Beerus, watching from his throne, smirked. "This is only the beginning," he murmured, his golden eyes gleaming with excitement.
