Chapter 39 - Two Faces. Fallen Leaves and Autumn Colors (4)
The location of the first-year boys’ dormitory was on the third floor of the building.
It was too difficult to enter through the window.
How did Nadia know the location of my room and managed to infiltrate it?
I asked using my parched throat due to tension.
“… How did you find this place?”
“I watched you. I observed where you went after classes, whether you talked to other girls. I watched everything.”
“So you’re saying you stalked me?”
Bang!
Nadia slammed the window shut as the wind blew in.
“Don’t call my actions by such a lowly term.”
“… Alright.”
It seems Nadia didn’t realize she was a stalker.
I checked my condition.
“My voice comes out fine like last time… But my body won’t move.”
Those emerald-like shining eyes.
The moment those eyes lost their light.
The restraints on my body would be released.
Even supernatural powers had their limits.
‘I need to stall for time. I must keep my identity hidden until Nadia’s power wears off.’
I was confident once my body was free.
I’d recovered from the injury I sustained last time.
There was a high chance I could escape this situation.
Thinking that, I met Nadia’s piercing gaze.
“… What do you want from me? What do you hope to gain by illegally breaking into the dormitory?”
“Damian. I want you, all of you. I want to have everything.”
“That’s a bit difficult. My body belongs to me.”
“No. Your body is mine. You promised. You promised to give your body to me. To become mine.”
Thud!
Nadia pushed my stationary body with both hands.
My body lost balance and settled into a chair without resistance.
As if interrogating me.
Nadia looked down at me.
“If you made a promise, you should keep it, Damian.”
Gulp!
I gulped out of nervousness; my tongue completely dry.
“… I don’t know what you’re talking about. I’ve never heard this before since I’m not Damian. What promise did you make?”
“Lies. You know.”
Nadia suddenly leaned in, closing the distance between us.
So close that our noses almost touched. She stared into my eyes without blinking.
“You know because we made a pledge. Our promise.”
“… No, I don’t know. I’m not Damian, so how could I know? And you checked my heart last time. There was no sign of a pledge .”
“It was manipulated. There’s no way it doesn’t exist.”
“Then, check again.”
“Alright.”
Rip-
At my words, Nadia immediately tore my evening dress.
‘This is expensive…’
Even though my family had a lot of money, it was still a waste.
Nadia ripped the dress to reveal my chest, checking near my heart.
She paused when she saw there was no sign.
“…”
“See, there’s nothing. Mistaking me for someone else is a clear mistake. Are you going to throw up the mine like last time?”
“The mine is fine. You’ll be mine eventually. More importantly, there’s really nothing.”
“I told you from the start. I’m not Damian.”
“… Lies. It can’t be.”
Rip!
Suddenly, Nadia tore her own clothes.
She exposed her mark to me without hesitation.
‘What’s she up to?’
With a blank expression, she muttered to me.
“You’re hiding the same mark as mine. Using some method. There’s no way you’re not Damian.”
“Our appearances might be the same. But there’s no mark, so it’s strange to keep doubting me-”
“It’s not strange. I know everything.”
Squeeze-
Nadia met my eyes and grabbed my hand just like before.
With a happy expression as if reminiscing a good past, she said.
“The warmth when you held my hand in the mansion. Your warm hand. Slightly hardened skin. I haven’t forgotten, Damian.”
And then…
“No matter what it takes, I will make you mine. Your true self. Even if one of us dies today.”
She must be insane.
Despite the lack of evidence, she was almost certain that I was Damian.
“The token doesn’t say everything, Damian. I trust my instincts and experience. You are my servant, my family. That fact will never change. And even if you aren’t…”
If I say you are, then you are.
“Because you are mine, Damian.”
Nadia released my hand and moved hers to my face, embracing my cheek. She stared straight into my eyes and smiled.
“Let’s finish the engagement ceremony we couldn’t complete. We have to get married anyway, by our vow.”
“I’m not-”
“You know it’s pointless to keep lying, right? Just stay still. I’ll handle everything.”
Nadia already thought of me as her possession. I wanted to stop her, but I couldn’t. It was as if she was fulfilling a dream. She grabbed my cheek and leaned in to kiss me.
“Let’s finish what we started last time?”
But at that moment, she was too engrossed in the situation. The green glow in her eyes was weaker than before.
‘… This should be enough. I can move now.’
Just as Nadia was about to steal my kiss, I stood up from the chair and grabbed her arms.
I heard her shocked voice.
“How can you move-”
Before she could finish, I pushed her to the ground.
Bang!
I climbed on top of her, pinning her arms down. As long as I held her arms, she couldn’t use her powers, no matter how much her eyes glowed.
‘A perfect comeback.’
I was relieved that the worst-case scenario hadn’t happened. Nadia was frustrated. She glared at me and shouted.
“Let go. Damian. That’s an order. Let go.”
“If I let go, you’ll just threaten me again. I’m not letting go.”
“I said let go. Right now.”
Nadia struggled to free herself from my grip. I had no intention of letting go until she gave up.
“Admit that I’m not the man from the painting.”
“No.”
“Then we’ll stay like this forever.”
“I’m fine with that. I’ll be with you forever, Damian. Your life will be mine.”
“… You don’t make any sense.”
I was starting to have doubts. Should I admit it?
‘If I admit I’m Damian, would Nadia be less likely to cause trouble?’
No.
It would probably make things worse. Nadia wanted to own all of me.
‘But even now, she wants to possess me whether I’m Damian or not.’
I was uncertain. Every action had risks. I wasn’t confident Nadia would change for the better.
‘What should I do…?’
How could I make Nadia give up her suspicions? How could I put an end to this?
As I pondered, a good idea came to me.
“Nadia.”
“Why’re you calling me? Let go, Damian.”
She was almost certain I was Damian. There was a 99% chance. She was only deceived by the token.
‘If she wants to possess me anyway…’
I decided to play along.
I let go of Nadia’s arms.
“I can’t believe you actually let go. Did you really follow my order?”
“No, not really. I have a proposal. Letting go was a gesture of trust.”
I stood up, and Nadia did the same, crossing her arms.
“Tell me. What’s your proposal?”
“It’s simple. I’m not the man in the painting.”
“No, you are-”
“You want to believe I am. But you won’t listen if I say I’m not.”
So.
“Why don’t you stay by my side and see for yourself? You said you wanted to have me, right?”
I held up three fingers.
“Three months. During that time, I’ll prove I’m not the man from the painting. If, after that, you still believe I am… I’ll give myself to you.”
“Isn’t that a fair deal? There’s no burden on you.”
“…”
Was she considering it?
Nadia closed her eyes, thinking. Her mind must have been racing.
‘Should I force him now or get him later with certainty?’
She was weighing the options. Finally, she answered without expression.
“That’s not a bad idea.”
“Right? You get what you want, and I clear my name. It’s good for both of us.”
However.
“I’m not going to follow all your terms.”
Suddenly, Nadia turned displeased and added.
She took my hand and said.
“Every two days. You must come to my art studio. If we don’t meet often, this period is meaningless. I need to get to know you properly.”
“… That’s true.”
“Meeting every two days means I can fully have you. Not a painting, but the real Damian.”
Already lost in her fantasies, Nadia couldn’t supress her grin.
“I’ll be waiting for the day you come into my hands. Then, I’ll truly know. The real you with the token. Understand, Damian?”
“…”
I nodded, fighting off my fear. Satisfied, Nadia left the dormitory.
“I survived.”
Barely.
I made it through.
But I felt like I was dying.
Or should I be grateful I didn’t die?
“She probably saw that too. Not that she could read it.”
There was unfamiliar writing on the wall. It was Nadia’s neat handwriting.
“Always thinking of you, Damian. I want to hear your warm voice again like before.”
Nadia longed for the past. Those warm spring days at the mansion.
But unfortunately.
‘I’m sorry, Nadia. That Damian is gone.’
It would be cruel, but I had to prove I wasn’t the same person. Until she could think clearly.
Until we could put a proper leash on each other.
“Three months. Just three months. In that time, I have to make Nadia see me as something other than a possession…”
