Chapter 35
“I beg your pardon?”
This wasn’t some K-drama plot twist. Who on earth had left such a setting in this novel?
“You mean the Viscount used up all the wedding expenses and ran away?”
It turned out there was someone in this fantasy world, not just in South Korea, who had committed such an insane act.
“Yes, it’s too embarrassing, and I couldn’t even bring myself to tell the Marquis. I’m truly sorry even to tell Your Highness the Princess.”
Though the family of the Marquis had offered to help with her younger brother’s treatment, it could only happen after the marriage.
“So, I haven’t been able to proceed with anything. Fortunately, the dress was already in my care, but even that was lacking in silk and lace…”
“Shall we solve that first? Follow me.”
I grabbed Alexi’s wrist and led her into the room.
Oh, by the way, everyone had grabbed my wrist and pulled me before… Was this how it felt?
“Oh, I’m sorry. Your wrist.”
“It’s okay, Your Highness. Rather, it is an honor. How common is it for a noble lady to hold Your Highness’s wrist!”
Alexi’s bright smile made me feel even better as I opened the door to the room.
“Have you come, Your Highness? It’s been a while, Lady Litua.”
Inside the room, Madam Huron and the dress shop staff were all bustling around.
And in the center of the room, the wedding dress I had originally planned to wear was on full display.
“W-What is this…?”
“In fact, it was the wedding dress I was going to wear. However, since I won’t be needing it for a while due to certain circumstances, I thought of giving it to Alexi.”
I teased with a sly smile, but suddenly, tears welled up in Alexi’s eyes and streamed down her cheeks.
“Alexi!”
“I never could have imagined something like this. Thank you so much, Your Highness. I really… really appreciate it.”
Alexi tried to express her gratitude through sobs.
“Ohh, don’t cry. Let’s hurry and get to the fitting. We don’t have much time!”
I gently pushed Alexi into the fitting room to put a smile back on her face.
After the tearful dress fitting, we moved on to the cake, food tasting, and more.
Alexi was moved and shed tears of gratitude several times, as she couldn’t afford any of this on her own.
To put her at ease, I had to reassure her multiple times:
“Don’t worry, I’ll definitely recover that money.”
Of course, I didn’t say this out of thin air; I was 100% sincere.
* * *
It had already been quite some time since I left home. Of course, Viscount Litua k didn’t have a sense of time anymore.
‘Are they all doing well?’
The Viscount’s mind was already broken to the point of being comfortable with the subject of stealing his daughter’s wedding expenses and running away.
He has already lost 100,000 Tium while going back and forth on the gambling board. More than half of the 150,000 Tium received from the Marquis Lloyd’s family as wedding expenses has already evaporated.
‘I have to return to 400,000 Tium.’
He had no choice but to pay off his daughter’s wedding expenses, his son’s medical bills, and a huge debt of 200,000 Tium that his children didn’t know about.
However, it seemed that the Viscount was out of luck this time as well.
“Now play your last card, Viscount.”
The croupier demanded cards from both Viscount and the other opponents sitting at the table.
“Surrender.”
The Viscount put his hand down on the table with his fingers. This round was a hand signal to give up.
He didn’t want to give up because he had risked quite a bit of money, but if he didn’t, he would lose even more.
Feeling dizzy, the Viscount held his head.
“Black Jack.”
When the person sitting next to him quietly spoke, the Viscount raised his head in surprise.
A silver-haired young man with a beautiful appearance. The money the young man won was 400,000 Tium.
‘Me too, I can do it again. I can do it.’
The Viscount was about to take out the money to start the game again, but he felt a strong grip on his arm somewhere.
“What the hell!”
However, no one was standing around Viscount Litua, who was looking around.
“Viscount, would you like to continue the new game?”
The croupier asked, but this time he couldn’t even answer. It was because the arm and mouth were completely blocked by an unknown force.
In the end, the Viscount who escaped the salon half-forcedly felt free from the power that was oppressing him.
“What a bastard! Who the hell are you!”
He shouted loudly in the dark street, but no one answered him.
As the Viscount, exhausted from screaming and resisting force, lay down on the street, footsteps were heard from somewhere.
“It’s pathetic. How can you be called a noble of Felosite? I guess I should call you a beggar.”
It was a voice he had heard somewhere.
When the Viscount lifted his head, he saw the young man with silver hair whom he had played blackjack with earlier.
“How dare a kid like you insult an adult! Huh?”
Even though he had no money to drink, the Viscount strangely felt tipsy.
“You’re so trashy that you can’t even recognize the lord you serve? The head of a family who doesn’t even recognize the family you’re supporting?”
As he looked into the young man’s eyes, an inexplicable sense of intimidation washed over the Viscount. The longer he stared, the more he wanted to avoid the fear that pierced his heart.
Eventually, the Viscount collapsed and fell asleep.
“Do we really need to go this far?”
“But it’s the first commission, and we should receive the proper payment.”
Karena received money from the Archduke and accurately calculated the amount, then handed some of it back to him.
“The calculation is correct. This is Lucian’s commission.”
The Archduke who received the money cleared his throat as if it was absurd, but Karena didn’t seem to care.
“Now, let’s go back, shall we?”
Since the Viscount occupied all the seats in the carriage, lying down, the Archduke and Karena had no choice but to sit close together.
“We should have brought two carriages.”
“It’s cozy and nice, though.”
The Princess, unlike when they first met, had gradually become more submissive.
It was embarrassing to the Archduke, but on the other hand, it felt quite refreshing.
‘Promising to become a villain and then acting like this.’
On the day of the princess’s trial, when she learned that the Archduke had gone to rescue her, the princess’ attitude completely changed.
Of course, his actions were also filled with suspicious behavior aimed at saving her. However, she couldn’t reveal everything about the prophecy to him right away.
After learning the news of Princess Karena’s death penalty in advance from the prophecy, the Archduke would figure out the trial date in advance and go to the imperial palace recklessly.
He hadn’t even planned how to save her.
The reason he had brought up ‘marriage’ was because of his father and Empress Helena’s conversation that had come to mind.
If the two were still alive, their wedding might have taken place in a slightly different environment.
“Lucian’s father, you say?”
It was perhaps just a coincidence that Karena mentioned his father at this moment.
“Who was he?”
In the Archduke’s mind, an image of his father passed by like smoke, unclear and fleeting.
“He was… very different from me.”
Inadvertently recalling his father and gazing out of the dark window.
“Ugh!”
A blinding light flashed before his eyes, followed by an excruciating pain that pierced the Archduke’s head.
* * *
“How many humanoid monsters are there now, Colin?”
“Excluding Prince Liam, there are probably around twenty.”
“It’s quite impressive. How did you come up with the idea of creating humanoid monsters?”
No one knew, but Colin wasn’t the one who originally created the ‘humanoid monsters’. She had merely recreated what she had witnessed, as if replicating it exactly.
Colin Piaget’s life was far from beautiful.
Baron Piaget and his wife had known early on that their daughter possessed the power of ancient witches and had tried to kill her several times.
No, perhaps the original Colin Piaget had died back then.
‘So, a part of my soul was transplanted into Colin.’
Colin, born again, used her powerful magic to control her parents’ minds.
One by one, she was creating the surrounding environment as she wished.
And by chance, very pure chance, she witnessed that scene one day.
