The Villainous Noble Who Kept Rewinding After Death: The Story Somehow Changed When I Committed Suicide

Chapter 1: Return from Death
Suddenly, do you know what “Return from Death” means?
Return from Death is when a person who has somehow died has time rewinded to a specific point, allowing them to relive their life from there.
Normally, a person who returns from death would use their knowledge and powers to rely on others and try to change the future to avoid death.
However, that’s not always the case. If a supernatural being, for example, a god exists, and that god has predetermined the future, no matter how hard one struggles, the destination remains unchanged.
To give a simple analogy, let’s say the world is definitely going to end in 24 hours.
In the time leading up to that inevitable destruction, people might spend their time sleeping, hanging out with their significant others, studying or training, or even trying to escape to the dark sides of the world, doing whatever they please.
But with the predetermined future of destruction in 24 hours, no matter what anyone does in that limited timeframe, they cannot escape the path that leads to the world ending and dying.
That is the principle of nature, the ordained fate, and the certain future set by the god.
In a world where the destination is predetermined, I find myself returning from death over and over again.
The reasons for my deaths vary; I get involved with the protagonist at the academy and eventually end up being killed for my heinous crimes.
I tried to use monsters for revenge and destroy the nation, but was ultimately stopped and killed by the heroes.
I was suddenly killed while dozing off and yawning by the resurrected Demon King.
Killed by my fiancée simply for being an obstacle for her and the protagonist.
Or I am assassinated because my powers are seen as a threat.
Having been killed time and time again, I always rewind to three years before I enter the academy.
There’s something off about this world. It’s as if it resembles a picture book or story—once one ending is reached, time rewinds to the beginning.
One common tale is about a hero rescuing a princess captured by a Demon King.
The hero overcomes numerous difficulties, meets many companions, defeats the Demon King, and then lives happily ever after with the rescued princess.
But what happens when that tale concludes?
Did the hero and the princess raise a happy family and contribute to the peace of the kingdom?
Or did a new formidable foe emerge, prompting the hero to fight again?
The answer is none of the above.
In stories, everything is fictional, and no subsequent tales exist.
Once an ending is reached, the story rewinds to the first page, with the princess once again captured by the Demon King, and the hero rushing to save her.
This same phenomenon occurs in my world as well. And I, known as Lewis Valentine, am what you’d call the villain.
Valentine Duchy, located in the north of the Ruzenia Empire. I am Lewis Valentine, the legitimate son of the House of Valentine that manages this duchy.
With silver hair inherited from my father and golden eyes from my mother, my face has a cool, sharp look to it, and at the age of 12, I stand at 160 cm tall—taller than average for my age.
For some reason, my mother insisted I grow my hair long, and it now reaches my shoulders.
Despite my appearance, I seemingly possess a beauty that makes everyone envious, attracting many noble girls at parties.
Now at 13, I will soon be attending the Suzette Imperial Academy, which is located in the capital of the Ruzenia Empire, in two and a half years.
This Suzette Imperial Academy is famed for graduating first-class individuals in various fields—most historical figures you’ve heard of were graduates from this academy.
Moreover, its greatest feature is that it operates on a meritocratic basis, allowing anyone with strength to enroll, regardless of royal, noble, or common status, and graduating provides one with a certain status, ensuring they won’t struggle finding a job.
Hence, many come to enroll from both within the nation and abroad, ranging from foreign royals to commoners.
By the way, “Suzette” is supposedly the name of the academy’s founder, but I couldn’t care less about that.
This prestigious Suzette Imperial Academy serves as the backdrop for this story, and my doomed fate begins the moment I enroll.
On the day of my enrollment during my first life, without knowing anything, I challenged the commoner protagonist for a certain reason.
I’m not one to brag, but I was what you call a genius, boasting the ability to use magic of all attributes and martial arts, being a child of considerable strength.
Well, to be honest, I was so absorbed in my natural talent that I never properly trained.
So, predictably, I lost to the protagonist, who had experience fighting for survival, and from that point on, I continued to challenge him in a fit of paid-off resentment, eventually descending into villainy and getting killed easily.
What a foolish tale indeed.
Here, let me explain a bit about magic. There are several attributes: fire, water, wind, and earth as the four main attributes, as well as special attributes like lightning, ice, light, and darkness, and any person with magic power can use the non-attribute magic.
There are also forgotten attribute magics and weapon magics in the world, but I’ll explain those another time.
Now, you might wonder why I don’t rewind upon entering the academy; it’s because there’s an unavoidable important event when I turn 12.
That event is getting engaged—an absolutely pivotal event that nobles cannot escape.
This experience turns me into a cocky brat, and I end up growing up spoiled and eventually die.
sigh. It’s so tiring. So bothersome. I don’t want to meet anyone.
I’ve lost all will to live and can’t muster the energy to do anything.
No wonder, this engagement event is merely the starting line towards my inevitable demise, and as soon as I’m engaged, there’s no future left other than dying.
Ah, I wanna die soon. I want to slip into eternal sleep. At least, just wipe my memories, seriously.
With that generic whining thought, I rolled around in my bed.
“Maybe I should just commit suicide again.”
While pondering following the path of my previous life, I heard a knock on the door and casually replied, allowing entry.
“Excuse me.”
“Come in!”
The one who entered was my dedicated maid, named Miria.
With light green hair and matching green eyes, she’s a beautiful girl transitioning from girlhood to womanhood, and she’s three years older than me at 15.
In the past, I had a decent crush on her. Being older, she was dependable and I was quite attached to her like a sister.
(But she betrayed me in the end.)
I’ve lost track of which life this was, but she sold my info to help the protagonist she fell for.
Moreover, in another life, she poisoned me and I ended up dead, so I can’t muster any feelings about her now.
At first, I felt anger, but dying so many times made me indifferent.
“Lord Lewis, today is your first meeting with your fiancée, so I thought it best to prepare you early, if that’s alright?”
“Go ahead, do whatever you like.”
Feeling too lazy to even sit up, I used magic to float my body, creating a cushion of water to lie on.
Miria was surprised by my sudden magic use, her eyes widening in an odd expression.
(Ah, I remember—back then, I wasn’t as skilled at magic yet.)
After all, I’ve died so many times. My memories from when I was little are basically non-existent, and having gone through various childhoods, I have no clue what’s right anymore.
“Hey, can you hurry it up? How long do you expect me to wait?”
“I-I’m sorry!”
But frankly, what’s the point of acting weirdly just because my memories are muddled?
(Why bother worrying since I’ll just die anyway?)
In my last life, I rewound and quickly slit my throat right after returning.
In a fleeting moment where my body, surroundings, and environment weren’t influenced by the world, I manifested a knife with magic on my finger and cut the thickest blood vessel in my neck.
Since I’d never committed suicide in my past lives, I just thought I’d give it a try, but ultimately I just returned again as before.
I can’t even die, nor find meaning in living.
So, in this life too, I decided to do whatever I want until I die, continuing to blankly stare at my own face—more familiar than my parents’—while Miria styled my hair and attire.
