The Villainous Noble Who Kept Rewinding After Death: The Story Somehow Changed When I Committed Suicide

Episode 73: The Task

When Lewis started searching for monsters to find magical organs, Fiera and Shuvina also began to take action to complete the tasks assigned to them.

First, they returned to the coastal city of Minerva to check the adventurer guild’s request bulletin board for some affordable quests to raise their ranks.

“Shuvina is C rank, right?”

“Yeah. I can challenge the promotion exam to B rank soon.”

“Got it. Then let’s focus on accepting extermination requests for monsters.”

Saying this, Fiera picked up requests to slay wolf-type monsters and orcs and had the reception girl take care of the paperwork.

Once the paperwork was finished, they swiftly exterminated the requested monsters in a forest located a bit away from the city and stored the materials for proof of the bounty in her magic bag.

“Fiera, what about practicing your fighting spirit?”

“I can’t do that yet. Shuvina’s skills aren’t at the level where she can use fighting spirit. First, we need to improve her archery skills.”

“Understood.”

Fighting spirit could be used after mastering martial arts to a certain level, forming a mass of energy called a core within the body. From that core, the energy could be circulated throughout the body to be used as fighting spirit.

However, at this stage, Shuvina’s archery skills were merely decent, nowhere near the level required to use fighting spirit.

Thus, Fiera decided to first improve Shuvina’s archery skills and teach her how to use fighting spirit after the core had formed.

For the next two months, while raising Shuvina’s rank and honing her archery skills, finally, an energy mass formed within Shuvina’s body, establishing her core.

“Shuvi. We’ll start training for fighting spirit from today.”

“Finally!”

Over the two month period, Shuvina had leveled up to B rank and was very close to becoming A rank.

However, she had been quite anxious, waiting for Fiera to inform her about starting fighting spirit practice.

“What should I do first?”

“First, just sit there.”

After receiving quests for monster extermination, Shuvina sat down on the ground in the empty forest as instructed.

“Next, close your eyes.”

“Okay.”

Following Fiera’s instructions, Shuvina closed her eyes and waited for the next command while itching to use her fighting spirit.

“Direct your awareness inward; you should find a power mass for using fighting spirit. Then, grab that power and spin it around. That’s how you can use fighting spirit.”

“…Grab? Spin? Is there anything else I should do?”

“Nope.”

Saying this, Fiera just looked at Shuvina, as if there really was nothing more to explain.

(What… what does that even mean? Grab? Spin? I don’t get it.)

It was no surprise Shuvina couldn’t comprehend Fiera’s explanation. Elves typically think about the reasons behind phenomena when using magic and understand it theoretically and in order.

In contrast, Fiera, being a beast kin with enhanced senses, could mostly do things according to her instincts.

Also, having always been on the receiving end of teaching from Lewis, Fiera had no experience in instructing others.

Moreover, seeing only Lewis, who could do anything, Fiera mistakenly assumed everyone else should be like that too.

(For now, I guess I’ll just try doing what I was told.)

Realizing that merely thinking wouldn’t lead to progress, Shuvina decided to close her eyes and focus her awareness inward as instructed.

(If I remember correctly, they said there was a power mass somewhere…)

However, despite trying to concentrate as instructed, no matter how much she directed her awareness inside her body, she couldn’t seem to find anything resembling it, and time simply passed.

“Shuvi. Let’s call it a day and head back.”

Shuvina opened her eyes as Fiera spoke, noticing the sunset painting the sky orange.

“Got it.”

“It’s okay. We still have time, so let’s take it slow.”

Seeing Shuvina feeling disheartened from not succeeding, Fiera spoke encouragingly, and they both returned to the city of Minerva.

A week passed. While they trained fighting spirit in the forest after taking on monster extermination quests, Shuvina still hadn’t found her fighting spirit core.

Rather, she didn’t even fully understand what a fighting spirit core was, and was struggling to locate it.

“Shuvi. It’s time to move to Safari.”

“Already?”

“Yeah. There’s nothing more we can do in this city; let’s keep training while we take on quests in Safari.”

“Got it.”

This was Fiera’s way of showing concern, thinking it would be refreshing to train somewhere different rather than staying in the same place.

The next day was taken off to gather needed supplies, and two days later, they left Minerva.

It would take roughly six days to get from Minerva to Safari, so they continued their fighting spirit training while camping along the way.

“Shuvi. I’ll cook, so can you handle setting up the camp?”

“Leave it to me.”

Fiera took out meat and vegetables from her magic bag to cook, while Shuvina set up the tent and placed magical tools to ward off monsters, preparing for their support during the night.

After a while, the delicious smell wafted through the wind, reaching Shuvina’s nose, building up her excitement for dinner.

“Shuvi. It’s ready.”

“Thanks! I’m coming!”

As Shuvina finished setting up the tent, she headed to Fiera, where a bowl of soup and skewered meat awaited her.

“Looks delicious!”

“Yeah. I worked hard. Let’s eat quickly!”

It seemed Fiera was hungry as she immediately started eating once Shuvina sat down.

Shuvina was quite hungry herself, so she took the bowl of soup in her hands, scooped it up with her spoon, and brought it to her mouth.

“Yum!?”

However, the moment it touched her lips, a flavor that couldn’t be described burst across her tongue, and she almost spat it out but managed to hold back.

(What… what is this taste!? The smell is fine, but the taste is just awful!!)

She wondered if Fiera felt the same about the dish and looked at her, but Fiera was happily eating the soup and skewered meat.

(Am I the odd one here? Or is her taste just off?)

At that moment, it was a complete coincidence that both Lewis and Shuvina had identical reactions the first time they tasted Fiera’s cooking.

“Hey, Fiera. Have you ever cooked for Eir?”

“Huh? Yeah. On the first day we traveled together, I made the meal. Eir had eaten it normally, but the next day he started cooking for us, and so you’re the third one to try my cooking.”

“The third one?”

“Yeah. The first was my dad. For some reason, he stopped eating it the next day.”

It seemed that when both realized they had the same impression after eating Fiera’s cooking, they decided that from tomorrow onwards, they would take on the cooking duty.

Fiera was eager to cook as well, but knowing that leaving her to do so would lead to disaster, they somehow persuaded her.

Starting the next day, while heading to Safari, they continued their training for fighting spirit, and on the fifth day since leaving Minerva, Shuvina finally managed to sense something that resembled a core.

“Fiera. I found something that feels like a mass of energy.”

“Got it. Then squeeze that power, do a grab, and spin it around.”

As usual, Fiera’s explanation made no sense to her, but Shuvina decided to give it a try on her own with the energy mass she sensed.

However, no matter what she did, she couldn’t use anything remotely like fighting spirit, and she soon found herself at a loss.

Without resolving anything, the next day they arrived in Safari, and after taking up residence at an inn, they decided to take the day off.

Then, the following day, they headed to the adventurers’ guild to take on quests in hopes of reaching A rank.

Just as they found a suitable request, while trying to take it, suddenly—

“Hey! Ladies! Are you girls taking on requests by yourselves? It’s dangerous, so let’s take the quest together!”

When Shuvina heard a voice from behind, she turned around, but Fiera ignored it and made her way to the reception.

Unsure of what to do, Shuvina’s gaze wandered, but she ultimately followed Fiera, who was ignoring the voice.

“Hey! Wait up!”

However, the angered man, completely disregarded, attempted to grab Fiera’s shoulder.

Without even looking at him, Fiera dodged aside, causing her right hand to partially beastify, its sharpened claws pressing against the guy’s neck.

“Don’t touch me; you’re dirty. Only El can touch me. If you try again, I’ll kill you.”

Fiera detested letting any man besides Lewis touch her and threatened the man with a killing intent aimed solely at him.

Overwhelmed by her intense aura, the man trembled and nodded while pissing himself.

After that, once they left the guild having accepted the quest, Shuvina, who had remained silent, finally spoke to Fiera.

“That… was a bit overboard, don’t you think?”

While it wasn’t out of kindness that she questioned it, Shuvina wondered if it was really necessary to threaten someone to that extent.

“If I go easy this time, he might try it again. He could gather more friends and attack us with a larger group. That would be troublesome. Also…”

“Also?”

“El said not to show any mercy. Make the difference in standing very clear.”

Since Fiera basically followed Lewis’s thoughts and orders, Shuvina understood there was no arguing with that.

From then on, while accepting requests in Safari, they continued training for fighting spirit, but even as she reached A rank, Shuvina still couldn’t use her fighting spirit, and time continued to pass.

Concerned for Shuvina, who was growing increasingly sullen day by day, Fiera tried to cheer her up with various words, but Shuvina merely forced a smile without any improvement in her situation.

Ultimately, three months of promise made with Lewis came to an end, and she still hadn’t been able to use fighting spirit at all.
