Chapter 78
The Villainous Noble Who Kept Rewinding After Death: The Story Somehow Changed When I Committed Suicide
Episode 78: Magic Power Sealing
The day after we arrived in the Magic Kingdom Falmel, we set out for the Magic Academy early in the morning.
According to the innkeeper, the reception tends to get pretty crowded in the morning, so it was better to arrive early.
After walking for a while, we reached the gates of the Magic Academy, where many people were already lined up. Children and their parents looked energetic and excited.
Some kids were mumbling to themselves while looking at spellbooks. It seemed they were trying to memorize incantations for magic.
As we joined the line, I noticed people around us whispering about Fiera, who is a beastman.
“Look at that! There’s a beastman in front of the Magic Academy.”
“Seriously! What’s a trash like her doing here? She can’t even use elemental magic.”
(…They’re so low-level.)
I couldn’t help but feel exasperated at these fools who mistook magic as absolute power.
And the teachers of this Magic Academy, who were letting these incompetent kids enroll, were just as low in my opinion.
“Are you okay, Fiera?”
“Yeah. I’m totally fine.”
When Shuvina checked in on Fiera, she responded as if it didn’t bother her at all.
“Stop that, all of you! It’s not right to discriminate just because she’s a beastman!”
Suddenly, a voice came from somewhere, defending Fiera, and a girl made her way through the crowd.
(That girl is…)
The girl who appeared had wavy hair that turned red at the tips, purple hair, red eyes, and was dressed in a robe that screamed “magician.”
“Just like how magicians are weak in close combat, beastmen have their own weaknesses! Even my ancestor, the first sage, said that!”
The girl said this while looking around, but instead of applause or agreement, all she got were scoffs and laughter.
“Another loser spouting nonsense? It’s been known for ages that beastmen who can’t use magic are trash.”
“Ahaha! Just let her be! I’ve heard she has a lot of magic power, so if she could use magic, she’d be top-notch, right?”
“Are you an idiot? She’s a loser because she can’t use magic. Did you forget that?”
“Oops! Right, right! That’s true!”
The mocking words aimed at people turned the atmosphere from contempt for Fiera to ridicule towards the girl.
The girl’s shoulders shook slightly, and she looked down as if holding something in.
“Hmm…”
Instead of ignoring the girl like usual, I decided to walk up to her and reached out my hand to her, who was now crouched down.
“Are you okay?”
“…Huh?”
She seemed surprised by this unexpected occurrence, her eyes brimming with tears and frozen in place.
“Could you take my hand already? How long are you going to stay like this?”
“S-Sorry!”
After a moment, she finally took my hand, looking incredibly timid, a stark contrast from the bravado she just displayed.
“Hey, look! A beastman is helping a loser!”
“Isn’t that birds of a feather flock together? They must be drawn to each other, both being losers!”
The men said this mockingly, and soon everyone joined in, laughing loudly.
“…Shut up. Be quiet for a bit.”
I felt a bit annoyed by the atmosphere and released just a bit of my magic power.
“Yikes?!”
“W-What the… this magic power…”
As I let out dense magic power, those nearby started hyperventilating, foaming at the mouth, and collapsing, while even those further away trembled and sat down.
“Huh… They actually held up.”
However, the girl closest to me only grimaced slightly, showing little change, as she was more shocked by the surrounding chaos.
“Let’s go.”
“W-Where are we going?”
“To the exam, of course. You signed up for it, right?”
“Oh. R-Right.”
“Fiera, Shuvina, you’re coming too.”
“Yeah.”
“Got it.”
I tried to line up again with the three of them, but the terrified guys affected by my magic shuffled aside to let us through, and we smoothly completed the reception process.
After finishing the reception, we were guided by a teacher to a waiting room, where we sat in empty chairs.
“Um, thank you for helping me back there.”
“Huh? Oh, don’t mention it. I was just a little interested in you.”
“I-I-I-I’m interested?!”
“El, that sounded like you were flirting with her.”
“Yeah, it definitely sounds that way.”
Fiera and Shuvina remarked with a slight hint of exasperation, while the girl’s face turned red for some reason, flustered.
“Are you an idiot? I’m not flirting! I was curious about the magic placed on her.”
“Magic?”
“Yeah. But first, we should introduce ourselves. I’m Eir. I’m an adventurer.”
“I’m Fiera, also an adventurer. And thanks again for defending me earlier.”
“I’m Shuvina. I just joined these two’s party recently.”
After we introduced ourselves, the girl cleared her throat and straightened up to introduce herself.
“I’m Sonia Scarlet, a descendant of the first sage, and the third daughter of the Scarlet family.”
(So it’s definitely Sonia.)
She seemed a bit different from the Sonia I knew, but her dislike for discrimination and caring nature were very much like the Sonia I met in my previous life.
“Now back to the topic, what’s this magic that’s been placed on me?”
“Well, that would be…”
I thought for a moment how to explain but decided it would be best to just tell her as it was.
“The magic placed on you is a sealing magic. That’s why you can’t use magic.”
“M-Magic sealing?!”
Sonia looked stunned, frozen in shock from the revelation I just shared.
“Who did such a thing?”
Fiera, who was listening in, seemed curious and looked to me eagerly for who might have cast this magic.
“Who knows? I can’t say for sure.”
Actually, I had a good idea from my past life, but sharing that wouldn’t solve anything, so I kept it to myself.
“Well, it’s not all bad. Thanks to that sealing magic, Sonia has managed to live this long.”
“Wh-What do you mean?!”
Sonia’s expression turned even more shocked as she struggled to grasp the concept that she was alive despite being unable to use magic.
“You have a ton of magic power, more than most. You probably were born with a lot of it. But what do you think would happen if an undeveloped child with no magic control had that overwhelming magic power?”
“…Wouldn’t she go into a magic rampage?”
“Shuvina, correct. There’s no way a child can control that amount of magic, so Sonia would eventually lose control and explode, resulting in her death.”
Imagining such a future that I suggested made Sonia tremble slightly as she hugged herself.
“Isn’t there a way to deal with this? Eir?”
“Hmm, I could potentially lift the magic, but that would likely alert whoever sealed it. Then they might come to kill you directly.”
“N-No way…”
Sonia’s face paled with fear at the prospect of being killed.
Fiera and Shuvina moved closer, hugging her and holding her hand to comfort her.
“El. Can’t you do anything?”
It might be fine to keep her magic sealed for now, but eventually, she would likely lose control of her magic, and it would release on its own.
If that happened, she would just be waiting for her death without any power to defend herself.
“…Fine. I’ll lend you my aid. I’ll lift the sealing magic placed on Sonia. Some might come after you, but you’ll have to protect her, Fiera and Shuvina. Also, Sonia…”
“W-What is it?”
“I’ll teach you magic for a while. You have things you need to do and protect going forward. So you’ll need to get stronger. As for thanks… I’d like to see the ancestral sage’s spellbook from your family.”
“…I don’t know how you know about our family heirloom, but… I understand. I’ll do everything in my power to keep that promise.”
“Okay. Then let’s remove it right away. ‘High-level Magic Lifting.'”
As I used the spell, Sonia’s body shimmered faintly, and then a black mist appeared before vanishing.
“Cough! Haah, haah… Ugh!”
Once the spell was lifted, Sonia clutched her chest and began to groan, collapsing to her knees on the floor.
“Sonia!”
“Calm down. The magic that was held back is just flowing back into your body.”
I squatted down and placed my hand on her back, channeling my magic to help guide hers evenly throughout her body.
“Haah, haah…”
“Feeling better now?”
“Y-Yeah. Thank you.”
“Alright. Next, we’ll work on controlling your magic and using spells. We still have time before the exam, so by then, you should be able to use it decently.”
After that, I taught Sonia how to use magic and control her power until just before the exam started, and she managed to become capable of using magic at a basic level.
