The Walking Dead: Warlord

S1E35 – Quickdraw

I wake with a slight headache. I have to squint for a few seconds, trying to get the sleep out of my eyes. I eventually rub my eyes and see the half-empty glass of water on the bed beside me. I grab it and drink the lukewarm liquid, feeling my dry throat slowly fade.

I let out a sigh and slowly force myself out of the warm embrace of the bed.

“Dammit. Today’s the day. Fuck it. I’m stealing the bed.”

As I stand up, I go to put the bed in my inventory when suddenly,

*knock knock knock*

I sigh and hang my head,

“Just a minute.”

I hold the sheet up against my body and head over to the door. Peering through the peephole, I see Amy. I open the door, letting her inside. She speaks to me in a teasing tone,

“You look like shit.”

I scoff and say,

“Feeling like it too.”

I notice two cups of coffee in her hands as she shakes her head and chuckles,

“Not as bad as Glen. Shane had to practically drag him out of the bed. Apparently last night, Glen asked Shane to help him with his gun as well, and Shane isn’t taking no for an answer.”

I nod my head,

“Good. You should learn too. Eventually you’re gonna have to. I’ll teach you one day. Unless you’d rather do Shane’s spartan version.”

She shakes her head while holding out the coffee,

“Nah. I think I’m good. Coffee?”

I nod my head,

“Yes please.”

As the door fully closes, I drop the sheet and head back to the bed, placing the coffee down on the end table. Amy comes in after, sitting down at the foot of the bed while I start to get dressed, acting like I’m pulling my clothes out of my backpack. I continue talking to her,

“I think your sister and Shane hit it off, huh?”

She chuckles,

“Hah! Please, him and my sister?… Y’know what, no I can actually see that…”

I nod my head,

“Mhmmmm! I wish Glen woulda waited a bit to ask, but it’s whatever.”

I finish putting on my clothes and ask,

“So, wanna go get breakfast? I could go for some eggs and sausage! Maybe even some bacon!”

She nods her head,

“Some sausage sounds good right now. No alcohol, though!”

I chuckle and hit her on the shoulder,

“Oh come ooooon, pleeeeease?”

We head to the cafeteria, finding nearly everyone to be slightly hungover. Glen especially, as is currently being forced by Shane to take apart and put back together some guns.

I chuckle as I walk over to grab some cereal, taking some cornflakes and adding a pack of sugar to them. No milk, because I fucking hate it. Y’know, why have I never tried putting coffee in my cereal? Well, whatever.

As I chow down on the bowl and drink my coffee, I’m suddenly reminded of something. We never actually went into the big sci-fi room. I hurriedly finish off my cereal, and tell Amy that I’m gonna go take a shower. I hurry, running to the hospital section. First thing I do is grab every bit of medicine, all the bandages, and some extra prosthetics just in case. There isn’t actually many here, only two more, but two is better than none. I then grab a tank of oxygen.

However, I carry this tank as it’s gonna serve its purpose real quick. I head back to where everyone is and see them walking out of the cafeteria with Jenner, likely towards the big sci-fi room. As I trail behind the group, I notice the timer is set just above one hour. I put the oxygen tank down in the doorway. Hopefully it’ll do what I want it to. As I walk in, I see Jenner showing them the footage of his wife turning into a walker and getting killed. I hear everyone gasp when the walker gets killed.

I watch the clock, and see it tick down below an hour. Fuck. I like the story, but I’m not letting this continue on. I speak to Jenner as I slowly move my hand towards my revolver,

“Hey, uh. Doctor Jenner, what’s that timer mean?”

He looks slightly shocked, but eventually speaks as everyone starts to look at him suspiciously. I take out my revolver as he starts to speak,

“That’s when the power will run out.”

I squint my eyes at him and say,

“I highly doubt that the whole facility will just run out of power randomly. Especially when you have the deadliest diseases known to man inside. What happens WHEN the power runs out?”

He speaks to us in a calm, but shaken tone,

“When the power starts to run out, it will be rerouted to important facilities. First the lights will go out and be replaced by emergency low-power ones. Then, the AC. And lastly, the ventilation. When power runs out completely… We don’t want these diseases wreaking havoc across the country…”

He goes to start putting in the code to lock the doors. I aim my revolver and fire it at him instantly, just managing to clip his wrist before he has time to input the code fully,

“GAAAAAAAAH!”

A screen pops up after this, but I ignore it as there are more pressing matters. Rick looks at me with confusion and yells out,

“PENNY! WHY?”

I calmly walk over towards Jenner, keeping my revolver trained on the back of his skull. I speak to the group in a slightly loud tone,

“He was gonna lock us in here with him. Remember what I said before? About how this place would most likely explode without power? There should be no reason for him to actually input a code of any kind. Unless, he decided to take a few other people with him to the afterlife.”

Rick walks over to my and tries to grab my revolver, however I pull it back and speak sternly,

“Do not touch my gun.”

This momentary distraction is enough for doctor jenner to input the last number in the code, locking us in. The door behind us closes upwards with a loud sound as it slightly crushes the oxygen tank, but doesn’t manage to succeed in destroying it. I look at Rick with annoyance visible on my face.

“I. Fucking. Told you.”

I walk over to Jenner with my revolver in hand and put it to the back of his head,

“Open the door. Now.”

He shakes his head,

“I told you when that door closed it wouldn't open again! I warned you!”

I yell at him,

“THAT DOESN’T GIVE YOU THE RIGHT TO DECIDE OUR LIVES FOR US! NOW, YOU OPEN THAT DOOR OR I PUT A ROUND THROUGH YOUR FUCKING SKULL!”

He looks me in the eyes, sweating slightly from the hand injury I gave him,

“You do that, and that door never opens.”

Fuck it. Let’s try something. I look at the door and see the oxygen tank still mostly intact. It gives a big enough gap for most of us to get through, but Amy will need help, and Shane is just too big. As I’m thinking, the lights suddenly shut off and are replaced with dimmer ones. I take out a grenade from my inventory, not even bothering to reach into the backpack since I’m sure nobody would even notice. I walk up to the door and take out the grenade, pulling the pin. I yell out,

“EVERYBODY TAKE COVER!”

I wait for everyone to get behind something, and put the grenade down by the oxygen tank. I really hope this movie shit actually works…
