Chapter 039 – Protection

[2009 – June]

Slowly regaining consciousness, I couldn't help but shudder as flashes of phantom pain rushed into my mind. Having your bones broken and organs ripped through due to a car accident and then dying slowly from blood loss, was a joke against the pain of having your brain enhanced in comparison.

Elijah?”, Jean's voice sounded out, a hopeful tone to her words.

Opening my eyes, I found her laying beside me, propped up on her left elbow, her right hand softly brushing over my cheek.

Concentrating on the feeling of her fingers wandering over my skin, did wonders to let the pain ebb away as I remarked dryly: "That was rather unpleasant."

Her eyes closed for a moment as she sighed in relief before she opened them again. Tears welling up in her eyes, her hand balled into a small fist and she brought it down on my chest lightly, calling out in a soft, almost heart-breaking manner: "Don't do that to me again, I was so worried."

I'm sorry, I didn't know something like this would happen.”, I said, trying to soothe her.

Placing my hands on her hips, I turned to the side and pressed her against me. Stroking her back and leaving soft kisses along her neck, until I felt her nearly melt under my ministrations.

While doing so, I carefully sensed the changes within myself, noticing that it was incredibly easy to concentrate on two things at once.

The world around me had suddenly become more colourful, Jean's rosy cheek and quiet pants registering in my mind with such clarity that it was almost surreal.

Every slight movement of hers was suddenly filled with temptation and invitation. Her flowery scent had gained an underlying spicy note, reminding me of a blazing bonfire. And even as I tasted the skin of her neck, an aroma exploded on my tastebuds and flooded my brain that was just all hers.

I realised that it wasn't Jean that had changed, nor my senses that had become sharper. It was my brain that suddenly processed information with such detail and accuracy that it just felt as if I had gotten enhanced senses.

Basking in the sensory perceptions my mind registered, I found my body simply pulsing with vitality. Every minor ache that my mind hadn't perceived before, my enhanced brain now easily identified and recognized to be gone, banished by my new regenerative powers.

I felt alive, more than I ever had.

And when Jean's quiet moans echoed in my ears, her affection and arousal easily filtered out by my mind, a fire was lit in my heart. I wanted to hear her sing in pleasure so that I could burn the tone of her voice and the spasming of her climaxing figure in my mind.

Fully turning over and pressing Jean into the mattress, my hands moved to her thighs and wandered under the oversized hooded sweater as they reached the waistband of her lace shorts.

My lips had meanwhile drawn her into a kiss, while I enjoyed the fingers of both her hands moving over my scalp.

Retreating from our kiss, I moved onto my knees as I slowly peeled her shorts off her long pale legs, taking her panties with them.

"Elijah … ", she whispered my name in a subdued voice as I lowered myself between her legs.

Our gazes were interlocked, as I slowly made my way down her thighs. My tongue and lips drawing a path to her honey-coated sex, before I traced her lower lips with my tongue.

Inhaling sharply, Jean started to moan out in pleasure as I explored the wet folds of her lower body, her hands moving back into my hair.

Pausing in my ministrations for a short moment, I lifted my head slightly, her mewling protest and pulling hands telling me what she thought of that.

This time, try and control your fire, Jean. It belongs to you, you can guide it.”, I voiced out in a raspy tone, before I continued, “Don't suppress it, just 'will' it to not destroy anything, love.”

I cared about Jean and wanted her to gain control over her powers because only if she did so, would she reach her full potential. Right now, Jean was like a baby bird, thinking herself an excellent flyer, but she didn't know that she was supposed to rule the sky as the Phoenix.

Jean wasn't supposed to be a 'talented individual' or 'gifted student', her destiny was to be a singular existence – the Goddess of Rebirth, Life, Death, and Fire.

I locked my gaze with her, trying to convey my belief and confidence in her as she gave a hesitant nod, resolve blooming in her eyes.

Satisfied, that she understood the meaning behind my words, I moved back down to continue my feast.

Feeling Elijah's lips and tongues returning to her sex and practically devour her, Jean tried to push his head deeper into her core, her hips gyrating and leg muscles tensing.

She threw her head back and moaned wantonly, not caring about who else might hear her while she slowly felt her climax approaching faster and faster. Her thoughts, though somewhat muddled, turned towards Elijah's reminder.

Only moments later, Jean felt Elijah suck on her clitoris while two of his fingers penetrated her velvety folds deeply and an orgasm wrecked through her body.

Feeling the fire pouring out of her body, Jean's hazy mind tried to direct the flames as best as she could to not consume anything, while pleasure consumed her.

When finally a few minutes later her eyes opened and she felt Elijah cover her lower body with her slip and shorts again, she saw him smiling up at her proudly as he said: "You did it, love."

After my little 'meal' between Jean's legs, we finally decided to start our day and stopped holing ourselves up in my room, even though we did so more reluctantly than enthusiastically.

Opening a portal to her room, Jean put on some jeans, a bra, a top, some socks, and shoes, though she kept wearing my dark-blue hoodie, while I likewise put on a pair of jeans, a shirt, a sweater, and my black sneaker.

It was around 10 o'clock in the morning already, when we moved towards the gym while the bell had been soundly ignored by us before.

Jean's team practice started around 13 pm, and while she didn't want to wear herself out before, she decided to do a light workout while spending some time with me, not yet wanting to part ways after the eventful night and morning.

Sadly though, halfway down to the gym, the Professor called her to his office via her phone as I had placed a shield around her mind to protect her from him.

I knew Jean had great telepathic abilities, but she had learned those from Xavier and I had no doubt that he had left out some tricks so that he could enter her mind, should he deem it necessary.

I naturally wouldn't allow such a thing to happen now that I saw Jean as mine.

My strengthened mind provided a relatively simple solution as I could now place a shield around her and split my focus to keep it activated with the target of protection being her mind. It was an ethereal shield and thus followed more obscure intention easily, attaching itself to her and shielding her thoughts from invasion.

Before, this would have required my whole focus, but now I could do this with minor effort alone.

I will keep protecting your mind with my shield while we are apart.”, I informed Jean calmly.

Giving me a surprised look, she asked with incredulity: "You don't trust the Professor? You think he would do something to my mind without me knowing?"

Sighing lightly, I answered: "Jean, this isn't about trust. This is about protecting what is important to me. I don't know the Professor, so I don't plan to give him the opportunity to fiddle with your head. He shouldn't need, nor want to do so in the first place. If you want, I will take down my shield, but I would feel more comfortable if you let me protect you with it."

A few seconds passed before a soft smile appeared on her lips as she leaned into me and answered: "You are right. And I like the feeling of your shield protecting me, it's like you are with me at all times."

Pressing her lips onto mine, we parted a few moments later after a deep kiss.

I was pretty confident that the Professor wanted to talk to her about yesterday's mission, once again branding his ideology into her mind, but I wasn't worried that he would succeed in convincing Jean to see things his way.

After what she had witnessed yesterday and listening to my words, I was sure that she had realised the flawed logic in Charles' ideology.

Blending in and coexisting peacefully with humans would never work as the discrimination and violence amongst humans themselves was already great enough, not to mention a new superior race appearing and making humankind feel threatened.

Peace simply wasn't an option. Only winning the ongoing conflict was.
