Chapter 16: I never Fought!
Lann's rhetorical question made the other person choke for a moment. Before Jad could react, Lann said loudly:
“I am Lann Lannister, son of the Lion Knight Lannister, Earl of Cintra!”
"You filthy witcher, you organized a band of bandits to rob my country, massacre the citizens under my protection, you attacked my soldiers secretly and yet you have the courage to ask me to let you go?"
“Take up your arms, if you still think you’re a man!”
The roar of the young lion echoed far away in the jungle at night.
The soldiers who were groping their way through the jungle stopped for a moment.
Swade and the other two attendants looked at each other and said: "I probably understand what the earl's signal is."
In the camp, Jad was frightened by Lann's declaration of justice. Of course, in these days, knights with abnormal brains are everywhere, and he has seen too many.
And a scoundrel like Jad would naturally not have any sudden respect for him, but he just felt that such a noble young man needed to be tempered by the dangers of the mainland. He planned to respond with some polite teasing. Jad was an experienced warrior, and this was a reasonable psychological tactic before the battle began.
Lann did not give the other side a chance to respond. Before he could finish his words, Lann stood up and kicked a handful of coal sparks from the bonfire with her right foot, which flew toward Jad's head and face.
“Hell, this is not how a knight fights!” Jad was furious, not knowing that he had been tricked by the young man in front of him.
The gap in the equipment between the two sides was revealed. Facing the sparks of charcoal fire, Jad, who was wearing light armor and worried about being burned, backed away repeatedly, while Lann, who was covered in heavy armor, rushed towards the opponent in the face of the flames, brandished his long sword and dealt him a fatal blow.
The shock left Jad exhausted, and before long, he had many wounds on his body.
Jad was getting more and more frightened as he fought. As soon as the opponent took off his mask, he was sure that the boy opposite him was definitely no more than a boy of fifteen or sixteen years old, but he was stronger than an adult man and could even catch up with him.
I am a demon hunter. Even if I belong to the Cat School that emphasizes skill and agility, I am still a witcher! How could he be on par with a teenage boy in terms of strength?
But after all, Jad is a veteran who has experienced many battles. If the simplest method of overpowering others doesn't work, he will change his strategy. Soon, he used his strength to block several of Lann's slashes, taking advantage of this to get some space to adjust his breathing and pace, and brought the battle into the rhythm of his familiar skills.
The fighting situation immediately reversed.
Lann only felt that the swordsman who was being suppressed just now suddenly turned into a lynx with five sharp claws. His body was light and elusive, and the long sword in the opponent's hand was like a sharp claw that could always attack from various unexpected angles. The blade of his sword caught his weak point and bit him.
Lann's forward momentum suddenly stopped, and within a few rounds, he was exhausted.
But Jad's sword was getting faster and faster. After a few rounds, Lann was almost unable to react to the enemy's slashes and had to selectively use his armor to resist some of the opponent's less fatal attacks.
Accompanied by several sounds of metal colliding, followed by a heart-wrenching sound of tearing, Lann's armor soon received a lot of slash marks, some of which were even close to the weak points of the joints and had been completely torn. The inner armor can be seen by opening the iron sheet on the surface.
Lann gasped and looked at himself. His strength was barely up to par, but his reaction was not fast enough, his sword skills were not sophisticated enough, and the armor could only serve as a turtle shell and even slowed down its reaction.
Of course, without the armor Lann would probably be dead by now. In just a few breaths of fighting, Lann's current problems were exposed. Now he may be considered a good player among ordinary people, but when faced with the extraordinary, he is nothing more than a slightly tougher nut.
Before Lann could adapt to the opponent's rhythm, he saw the witcher's offensive turn again, his sword dancing like the wind, and the long sword spinning around his body like a windmill again.
[Whirl]!
Lann only felt that the force on the long sword was superimposed one after another and rushing towards him, as if the sea waves were about to overwhelm him.
Just when he was about to abandon his sword to avoid the sharp edge again, he felt the strength in his hand loosen.
The increase and decrease in strength destroyed Lann's center of gravity in an instant. At this time, he was wide open. If a third person was present, he could easily be harvested.
Lann looked up and saw that the opponent was still a human being after all and needed to follow basic human mechanics. The numerous changes of sword movements made it impossible for the opponent to swing the sword in pursuit immediately. He simply stretched out his left hand along with the last movement of the force and formed a strange gesture with all five fingers.
This seems to be even worse than if the other party had continued the sword attack.
'Signs Abilities!' Lann reacted instantly.
A small shock wave erupted from the opponent's hand, exploding into Lann's chest from a distance of no more than two bodies.
[Aard Sign]: A directed blast of telekinetic energy that staggers opponents, leaving them open for a subsequent attack.
As if a heavy hammer had hit him head-on, Lann rose from the ground and flew three meters with his armor on, and his vision suddenly turned completely black.
Jad also staggered a bit due to the reaction force, but that was all.
He only knows this one kind of seal, and he doesn't master it well. If you are a veteran of the school who is good at this, you can kill the opponent with just one blow; if you switch to the Griffin School, you can easily tear the armor into pieces.
But enough is enough, Jad has a winning chance.
'This guy is not very strong, and the armor on his body is not very hard either. My initial [Whirl] failed to cut it open, probably because I was running out of strength.'
Jad sighed in relief, remembering the ups and downs of the past few days. The joy of getting crystals and finally completing the mission, the joy of getting a large amount of supplies in one go during the day. The joy of searching for an escape route, only to find that the old shelter had been occupied by someone after searching for an escape route.
After repeated thinking, I still can't make up my mind to leave. The apprehension that remains. And the anger that filled my heart when I finally saw the boy in front of me playing with the crystal over the bonfire.
Fortunately, although everything is slightly off track, we can still pull it back. It doesn't matter if you don't have the goods and the subordinates you have cultivated for many years. As long as you have the crystal in hand and the mage who is second to none even among witchers, you will soon be able to make a comeback and live the life you have always pursued.
Looking at Lann who was groaning and struggling on the ground, Jad was about to step forward to deliver the killing blow, but suddenly his entire body broke out in cold sweat, and he rolled on the ground.
A sharp arrow suddenly rushed out from the darkness, aiming at Jad's head, but he dodged it. Then came the second and third arrows.
The figure of Arrow Assistant Ace, holding a bow and setting an arrow, slowly appeared in the jungle.
