94. Jealous Mary.
"Ah!?" A slightly pained voice exclaimed from behind.
Without turning around, Allen said, "It's not the Killer Whale; it's the other two potions."
"Oh~"
"Hmm?
"Ah!"
Mary first breathed a sigh of relief, then turned sharply to look at Allen in shock, "You came up with new formulas again? And two of them?"
Allen nodded and didn't say much. He turned his head to look at the sorceress, her red lips slightly parted, and asked, "Lady Vera, I need a bottle of Dwarven spirit, four Berbercane fruits, two portions of Water Essence, and... five drowner hearts."
A flash of surprise crossed the sorceress's face. She nodded and said, "Mary, go fetch these materials."
"Alright... yes, teacher." The shock on Mary's face had not yet dissipated.
As she walked to the inner room, she frequently glanced back at Allen as if he were some extraordinary phenomenon.
It was hard to comprehend!
How could someone come up with a formula in just a few days?
Books say that formula improvements are measured in years!
Mary couldn't understand but was greatly shocked, her steps unsteady as she walked away.
The sorceress stared intently at Allen, her emotions no less intense than Mary's, but she felt more worried than surprised.
"Allen, remember what I told you, evil gods are unreliable!"
"Don't worry, Lady Vera, I came up with these myself," Allen said with a thick skin.
The sorceress nodded slightly and did not delve further. Though her expression was calm, she couldn't help but feel a surge of pride from within.
"He is indeed my child!" she thought, "He should have been a born sorcerer, not a witcher."
Wait!
Allen had the potential to become a sorcerer. The sorceress recalled the ice spear spell from after the mountain trial.
During the wait, Allen inadvertently looked around, hoping to find differences in his vision after the eye modification. But until Mary returned with the required materials, he found nothing unusual. Sighing inwardly, he took the materials, set aside thoughts of his eyes, and was about to start brewing.
"Snap!"
A snap of fingers. The air in the alchemy room suddenly flowed faster. Allen was momentarily stunned, seeing the sorceress smile at him warmly. Her smile carried a certain profound meaning. Helplessly, Allen lowered his head and continued handling the materials.
The stench of brewing the Killer Whale potion was indeed infamous, no wonder the sorceress and Mary had psychological shadows about it. The Cat Eye potion was much simpler to prepare than the Killer Whale. The only tricky part was obtaining Water Essence.
In the game, this material could be obtained by killing water element monsters, but not in reality. It required extracting and refining the blood of water-based monsters to get it. This material's processing was the main reason why the Cat Eye potion required Level 2 alchemy. However, Water Essence was a basic component in many potions, with a long shelf life, so Allen knew Vera would have it.
After grinding the dried four Berbercane fruits into powder, he glanced at the sorceress.
"Snap"
Another snap of fingers.
Flames rose under the cauldron.
Silently praising the sorceress's cooperation, Allen quickly poured the powder into the heated cauldron. Wisps of black smoke rose from the pot. Once the smoke dissipated, he poured the entire bottle of Dwarven spirit into it.
"Sizzle~"
Alcohol vapor instantly rose and was blown away in a moment.
Counting his heartbeats, Allen poured a portion of Water Essence into the boiling alcohol, then extinguished the fire and covered the cauldron.
After twenty heartbeats, he opened the lid, added another portion of Water Essence, and the Cat Eye potion was done.
Simple, quick.
-------
After bringing the materials, Mary, seeing that Allen and the sorceress hadn't sent her away, stayed to watch. Considering the Killer Whale's potency, it was clear that Mary's curiosity outweighed her concern for her sense of smell.
Seeing Allen busy for a while and then all the materials used up, Mary was incredulous.
Was it done?
No stench! No explosion! Not even a hint of magic aura!
Unable to hold back, she voiced her disappointment:
"Ah?"
"Is that it?"
"Is it really finished?"
Pouring the Cat Eye potion into a crystal bottle, Allen looked in Mary's direction.
Seeing her dissatisfied expression, he felt a bit speechless.
What kind of reaction was that?
Would she be happier if the potion stank?
Mary quickly covered her mouth in embarrassment when Allen looked over.
"Allen, what's this potion called?" the sorceress asked, walking over and taking the crystal bottle to examine it.
Clear at the top and murky at the bottom.
The whole potion had a unique gradient color.
The upper layer was a clear, transparent oily substance, turning grey-green and darkening as it went down, with the bottom of the crystal bottle completely black.
No matter the angle, it exuded a mysterious, concealed aura.
Overall, the potion looked very appealing; she liked it a lot.
"Cat Eye! It's called Cat..." Allen began.
Before he could finish, the sorceress had naturally conjured a silver chain.
"Snap"
A snap, and a small hole appeared in the crystal bottle's neck. Threading the silver chain through the hole, it slid across her white, translucent collarbone and smooth, slender neck, settling on the sorceress's body.
"Clink~ clink~"
The crystal bottles lightly clinked together, swaying.
Two different-sized, different-colored potions hung on the sorceress's swan-like neck, adding a mysterious charm.
"Didn't even ask this time, just 'took' it directly?" Allen couldn't help but grumble inwardly.
Looking at the two potions on her neck, an absurd thought crossed his mind.
When he brewed more types of potions, would the sorceress end up with a ring of potion bottles around her neck?
Just the thought made Allen shudder.
What kind of strange aesthetic was this?
At this moment.
The sorceress shifted her gaze from the Cat Eye potion, expectantly asking:
"Does it look good?"
"Good! Very good! These two potions match perfectly with the teacher's complexion!"
Bootlicker Mary quickly spoke up. The sorceress's gentle smile grew even more radiant, making her look like she was glowing. She didn't respond to Mary, her beautiful, clear dark red eyes quietly gazing at Allen.
"Good... good! Very good!"
Allen unconsciously avoided the sorceress's tender gaze, but his eyes met Mary's, which were burning with jealousy.
Mary's face clearly said, "I am Lady Vera's apprentice."
The moment their eyes met, her previously calm anger reignited, glaring fiercely at Allen.
"Cough, cough~"
Clearing his throat, Allen awkwardly turned to look at the still burning cauldron.
"Mary, get two more sets of materials!" the sorceress said softly.
"Yes, teacher."
Mary immediately withdrew her gaze, smiling, standing straight, obedient and gentle.
