Chapter 6: Ghosts
3 weeks after stoping the gunmen at the bank, Viktor continued his nightly activities, punishing criminals after dark. He hit drug dealers pretty hard and burned all their products, and he was hard to hide from.
As a result of his brutal way of dealing with criminals, it resulted in the local gangs began to fear him more than they did The Flash. They hated him even more as he hit their warehouses and burned all their product, stole their money, and strung them up to be caught.
Of course, after giving them a beating that would leave them in the hospital for months. The reason they feared Viktor more than The Flash was that Flash was mostly active during the day. Not to say he didn't fight crime at night, it was just less common.
Now, they had 'The Knight and Hound' as they had taken to calling Viktor and Yami for his practice of using a set of shadow armor created through Lykaons power.
It not only made him extremely intimidating, but was also protected him from harm. Even while wearing it he could move like a blur zipping and zooming around.
Barry had been patrolling and looking for any sort of clue during his free time, but even when he ran around at night he didn't find anything. Not until Viktor was gone and the deed was done thanks to the power of his Bounded Fields and Teleportation.
Another big part of it was that Viktor with the memories of Yami's previous hosts had used some of the spells related to keeping things away from the non-magical people.
Barry was growing irritated as night after night, more and more criminals were ending up in the hospital. The petty thieves got off lightly with just a couple of bruises, but the drug dealers always ended up with severe injuries.
The muggers and burglars were left off even worse receiving a severe beating that left them near death. Barry didn't mind it that much, he just wished this new vigilante was less brutal.
That was until today as just a few hours ago, they found someone left wishing they were dead. Iris, his wife brought him a cup of coffee as he looked conflicted.
"What happened?"
Barry sighed as he went on to explain what he saw.
"The new vigilante has managed to remain out of sight somehow. So far, other than severe injuries, nothing had been too permanent in his methods. However, earlier today we found something far worse. In an alleyway on the east side of town, we found a man who had his legs hands and his manhood burned off."
Iris winced as that was an escalation if she ever saw one.
"What happened?"
Barry explained why he was conflicted as the punishment fit the crime.
"The Knight and his Hound got to him. They found the guy when he was trying to force himself on a homeless child. From what the kid told us, he had been grabbed and dragged into that ally.
As he screamed for help, Knight dropped down from above and saved him. Told him to run away and call the police. By the time we got there, the dead was done. He mutilated and threatened to come back if he didn't confess to his crimes."
Iris could tell Barry was conflicted. On one hand, he despised the monster that tried to ruin the innocence of a kid down on their luck. However, the gruesome outcome still rubbed him the wrong way.
"I am not even sure what I would have done if I had seen that. Send him to prison only for him to get a slap on the wrist? Child predators get off easy in the justice system. This way he won't hurt another child."
Iris sat next to him before she placed her hand on his back.
"You are struggling to feel bad despite the crime?"
Barry nodded.
"Morally, this was too far, but in my head, this was for the best."
Iris looked at her husband before she asked him something.
"What do you think about this new vigilante now? He saves mutilation for the worst offenders, but is it going too far?"
Barry shook his head as he didn't think so.
"Red Hood kills, Damian has killed before, Ollie in his early days killed, Diana still kills from time to time. Hal Jordon as a Lantern does what he needs to out in space, and Orion has no hesitation either.
Big Barda from her time in the Furies of Darkseid doesn't have an aversion to kill. Arthur also does not have a no-kill rule. It's just the shock factor that really took me for a loop. When I meet this guy, I won't hold it against him."
Iris felt that was for the best.
"Because he has done good for Central City. The gangs are afraid to operate at night, drugs have gone down and other violent crimes have dropped to nearly nothing. Some of the more risky parts of the city are now much safer.
As a reporter for Picture News, I have been interviewing people who live in Central City and the areas Knight has been active. You know what they all say?
They love the guy, sure he isn't as Flashy as my husband, but his actions have impacted a lot of people in a positive way. The people living in the more high crime areas in particular sing his praises. Now though, I am curious if you have a sketch from the reports given by those criminals in the hospital."
Barry nodded as he ran at super speed and got a piece of paper and a pen before he using the speed force copied the sketch perfectly. When Iris looked at the picture she picked it up with interest.

"How accurate is this?"
Barry shrugged.
"Not sure, all we got was a bunch of descriptions from criminals who were so scared of their own shadow that they begged for the lights to remain on at all times.
However, that runaway kid who saw him gave us this description."
In the picture was Viktor wearing his set of shadow armor that continuously radiated a stream of shadows. Yami, the Hound wore his own set of armor concealing his features, but it was clear that the rumors were true. Knight and Hound were in Central City, but where and who were they?
---
Speaking of Knight and Hound, Viktor and Yami were not home. The both of them were out walking through the streets of Central City. He was out doing some errands as he had plenty of money from the criminals he had dealt with.
He first bought some groceries, dog treats for Yami and new clothes. His reasoning was that he was planning to dig deeper into the memories of Yami and his previous hosts who had been mages.
He wanted to get into enchanting and he wanted to practice on his clothes. If he could make his clothing more durable and more defensive he would gain another layer of defense.
After he had gone to his fifth store, where he bought plenty of clothes, he began to make his way home. As he waited for the light to turn red he felt a new presence next to him causing him to look down.
There he saw a girl who could not have been older than 14. However, it was clear she was a ghost as people were walking right through her. She wasn't even looking at him, but Yami instead.
Yami being himself seemed happy and he jumped on on Viktor trying to show him the ghost. Yami was now a bigger dog, around the size of a German Shepherd, but that was still not his full size.
Viktor seeing that the girl was more focused on his dog decided to talk to her after using a small piece of magic. He snapped his fingers and the people around him began to walk away and around him.
He looked at the girl before asking her something.
"Can you talk?"
She nodded as she looked up at him.
"I can."
Seeing that she wasn't like the wraiths his Cross incinerated he decided to talk to her.
"So what happened to you? You get hit by a car?"
The girl seemed to slump down before shaking her head.
"It was a Bus."
He started to walk away causing her to float after him.
"So, why are you still here? Death or the Reaper should have come for you. Unless you choose to stay."
As he was walking she stopped following him after he had crossed the street.
"I choose to stay."
He turned around wondering why a ghost would want to remain here. The longer they remained the higher the chance of them turning into a wraith, or mad.
"My Mother was with me when I got hit? She sometimes comes to visit. Some nice people made a shrine for me over there."
She pointed at a few candles and flowers as she had been hit a few weeks ago. He and Flash could not be everywhere at once so accidents like this still happened.
"I see. Not sure if I can be much help, but I will stop by to check up on you. Maybe I can learn something about ghosts."
She waved him goodbye as she almost never saw people who could see her. Some children could who had the gift, but not many adults. As Viktor walked away he felt bad, but he had no clue how to help a ghost move on.
As they were leaving he could tell Yami wanted to stay. For a cursed dog made of a Divine Sword and Evil Cursed King, Yami liked kids.
"Come on, we got better things to do."
Yami gave him a glare as he felt they could do more. However, as Viktor walked around the city, more and more ghosts began to get drawn to him. Already their number was over 100 and that was just a few blocks.
He turned around and he released a burst of mana infused with Yami's power causing the ghosts to flee in terror. Rather than stick around he sped back home.
When he arrived at his ill gotten home, he decided to reaserch ways to keep ghosts away from his house. Magic runes were going to be important so he turned to Yami.
He sat down on the couch and he pulled Yami into his lap.
"Come on, it's time to study."
Yami nodded as he sat down on the couch. Viktor had only been able to see the experiences of a few of them as their were quite a few.
As such, Viktor first decided to get the memories of a mage by the Middle Ages from Spain. He unlocked Lyakon at the age of 14 and he belived he was unbetable.
Born to a mage family, he belived as many did that they would be the last weilder of their Longinus. He did live a good life, but he died in a fight with a Dragon he tried to kill.
His memories were perfect as he had been both a potion master, an enchanted and a mage. Viktor had all the work this mage had done through out his life and the magic tomes he had read.
He wasn't the only mage Yami had as a master, so Viktor began to look at themagic runes and their effects. To speed this up, Yami began to transfer them into his mind directly.
This of course had a down side as having these memories shoved into his head caused him extreme headaches, but it was worth it. This way he could learn magical information much faster.
The intresting this was that enchanting required magic runes and this mage had created some of his own personal runes. After learning this runic language, Viktor decided to practice it on the swords, armor and weapons he could create through Canis Lyakon.
He had much to learn after all and he hoped in the future the spirit of Incinerate Anthem could teach him more. It just seemed he needed more time to uncover the secrets of his second Sacred Gear.
