Chapter 154: Trespassing
But their relief didn't last long. Soon, the villagers began to gather around them, closing in from all sides.
"Who are you guys? Tell us," the crowd demanded, their tone sharp and filled with suspicion. The tension in the air thickened as more villagers emerged, all eyeing Samui, Karui, and Oroi warily.
The situation quickly escalated as the villagers closed in around them. The peaceful façade Samui, Karui, and Oroi had put up seemed to be rapidly crumbling. Samui instinctively stepped forward, trying to project calm and confidence, but her mind raced for a way to defuse the tension. The last thing they needed was to cause a scene in the heart of Konoha.
"We told you, we're just travelers," Samui said, her voice steady despite the mounting pressure. "We don't mean any harm. We're just passing through and need supplies for our journey."
But the villagers weren't buying it. Whispers rippled through the crowd as suspicion and fear spread. The recent disturbances in the village had left everyone on edge, and anyone who didn't look like a local was viewed with distrust.
"Travelers?" one of the villagers, a middle-aged man, scoffed. "You think we're stupid? This village is on high alert. We know people from other lands have been sneaking in. We'll see if you're telling the truth!"
The atmosphere became charged, and the trio could feel the weight of the situation hanging over them. Any wrong move could blow their cover.
Oroi, ever the quiet one, subtly shifted his stance, his hand inching closer to the kunai pouch at his waist. Karui's expression was one of barely-contained frustration, and her fingers twitched, ready to spring into action if necessary.
Samui's mind raced. They couldn't fight—at least, not here, not now. If they did, Konoha's defenses would crush them. But at the same time, if they didn't do something soon, their cover would be blown.
"We really don't want trouble," Samui said again, her voice firmer this time. "We came in peace, and we'll leave if you want us to. We have no intention of causing any harm. If you want us to leave, we'll go quietly."
The tension in the air was thick, and the villagers seemed torn. Some were still suspicious, their eyes narrowed in distrust, while others appeared unsure, unsure of what to make of these strangers. The presence of the Uchiha clan elites nearby added an undeniable weight to the situation.
Before anyone could make a move, a voice rang out from the back of the crowd.
"Enough."
It was a familiar voice, calm yet commanding. Out of the crowd stepped an Uchiha—a figure who instantly commanded attention. It was one of the Uchiha elites, a high-ranking shinobi whose presence made the crowd quiet instantly.
"This situation will be handled by the Uchiha," he said, his voice cold and authoritative. He looked at Samui, Karui, and Oroi with sharp, discerning eyes. "I will take responsibility for questioning them."
The villagers stepped back, allowing the Uchiha elite to take control. Samui, Karui, and Oroi exchanged wary glances. The Uchiha clan had been watching them closely since their arrival, and now it seemed like the time had come for them to face interrogation.
Samui gave a slight nod to her teammates, signaling them to remain calm. They had no choice now but to trust in their ability to handle the situation carefully.
The Uchiha elite studied them for a moment, then motioned for them to follow him. "Come with me. If you're innocent, this will be over quickly."
As they walked behind him, Samui's mind raced. This wasn't going as planned, but they still had to play their cards right. There was too much at stake to slip up now.
While my clone was resting, he received news about the three intruders.
"Naruto, there are three intruders in the village," one of the Uchiha clan members reported.
"Oh, let's see which village is so impatient," the clone replied with a slight smirk.
With that, both the clone and the Uchiha member headed to the location where the three intruders had been locked up, ready to confront them and figure out who they were.
The clone and the Uchiha member quickly made their way to the holding area where the three intruders—Samui, Karui, and Oroi—were being kept. The air was tense, and the walls of the holding cell were thick, adding to the feeling of confinement. As they approached, the clone could sense the palpable discomfort of the three, who were likely unaware of their true intentions.
"Well, well," the clone said as they reached the cell. "So, what do we have here? Some new faces in the village."
The three looked up, their expressions a mix of wary and cautious. Samui, standing at the front, immediately assessed the situation, her calm demeanor never wavering. Karui and Oroi flanked her, waiting for whatever was coming next.
"Who are you?" Karui asked, her tone defensive but not aggressive. She knew they were in a tight spot, but there was no point in making unnecessary enemies.
The Uchiha member, who had been quiet up until now, stepped forward, his sharingan flickering momentarily. "You're trespassing in Konoha, and we don't take kindly to that. Especially with the current situation." He glanced at the clone, who was standing just behind him, as if awaiting approval to proceed with further questioning.
The clone simply smirked, his eyes glowing faintly with the energy of the real Naruto's chakra. "We know you three are from the Cloud. Samui, Karui, and Oroi, correct? You're lucky we didn't decide to take you down right away. But as you can see, we're not without our manners."
Samui remained composed. "We don't want trouble," she said. "We're here to gather information. We've been stranded here, and we need help to get back home. We don't intend to cause harm."
The Uchiha member narrowed his eyes, not entirely convinced, but before he could speak, the clone cut him off.
"Let's not make this more difficult than it needs to be," the clone said, his tone surprisingly nonchalant. "I'll let you off easy for now. But first, I'll need some answers. What are you really here for?"
There was a brief pause as Samui, Karui, and Oroi exchanged looks. It was clear that they were going to have to explain themselves carefully if they wanted to get out of this situation without escalating things further.
Samui stepped forward. "We're here to investigate the fall of the Fire Daimyo. We were tracking information, but we got caught in the wrong place at the wrong time. We've done nothing wrong. We're not spies. We're just trying to find out what happened."
The clone raised an eyebrow. "The Fire Daimyo, huh? Well, that's... convenient. But you must know that any foreigner sneaking around here is viewed with suspicion. And we've got people in the village who won't take kindly to strangers who don't follow protocol."
The Uchiha member stepped up, his eyes scanning them one more time. He seemed to consider their words carefully. "What she says checks out," he muttered, almost to himself. "But we can't be too careful. We'll need to report this to the higher-ups. In the meantime, you'll stay here."
Samui's eyes flicked toward the Uchiha member, but she held her tongue. Karui and Oroi stood still, waiting for what would happen next. It was a tense moment, but Samui had a feeling that this wouldn't be the end of their troubles—not by a long shot.
The clone turned to the Uchiha member, his smirk still in place. "I'll take care of the reports. You, keep an eye on them for now. I have... other matters to attend to."
With that, the clone left the holding area, the door closing behind him. He knew the situation was far from over. This was just a small step in a much larger game.
As for Samui, Karui, and Oroi, they exchanged glances, silently agreeing that their next move would need to be even more careful. They were in the heart of Konoha now, and things were about to get a lot more complicated.
