Chapter 226: Fierce Battle

Daisy's eyes narrowed as she recognized the method used to slice open space with golden lines—it was similar to her own technique of finding transmission points to create closed pathways between two places.
The only difference was that the others didn't rely on mutant abilities, but rather on a complex set of technical means combined with landmark-based positioning, allowing ordinary people to move between different spaces.
As the golden lines moved swiftly, cutting a segment of space, three hooded figures in grey emerged.
Their faces were hidden by hoods, and their tones were not friendly. "Mortals, leave this place. This rogue magic user should be dealt with by us."
Daisy and Black Widow exchanged a glance, with Black Widow shaking her head, signaling to stick to their own mission and ignore these unrelated personnel. Daisy agreed, feeling that these guys seemed quite pretentious but probably harmless, as her enhanced senses detected no abnormalities, which meant these guys were not usable.
As it turned out, Daisy was correct in her assessment. These three seemed to be mages from Kamar-Taj, and were extremely brave. Each drew a dagger and a short axe from their belts and charged at Doom shouting commands.
"Master Karl, watch his left, Master Linton cover our back, I'll lead the attack!" The trio, seeing that Doom showed no signs of surrendering, quickly arranged themselves in a traditional triadic formation, trying to capture Doom.
This proved to be a miscalculation on their part, underestimating the enemy and overestimating themselves. Doom had no intention of fleeing.
The mages, dressed in robes and wielding axes and daggers, were commendable for their courage. The leading mage, a fat man wielding an axe, charged forward with great vigor. Their tactics were somewhat organized, but the outcome was far from successful.
It was a disaster.
The mage assigned to the flank hadn't even closed in when Doom struck him through the chest with a single blow. Doom, having mastered the conversion of electricity into pure magical force without a teacher, wielded magic with newfound power that was far beyond simple tricks.
The frail human body of the grey-robed mage couldn't withstand the onslaught of this altered magical force. A fist-sized hole was blown through his chest, blood spraying like a fountain, and he was dead before he hit the ground.
Black Widow's eyes widened—not out of sorrow for the deceased, he was just a bystander after all, and she wouldn't spare a second glance if hundreds died. She was shocked by how easily he had been killed. Hadn't they just been scolding mortals? Did these mages need to shed their physical bodies to truly fight in battle?
Black Widow had a big brain, fueled by the many miscellaneous books she had read. Unfortunately, the grey-robed mage lying in a pool of blood twitched for a moment and then was still.
Doom also miscalculated his own strength.
Practice is the only criterion for testing truth. Those who think they are weak but turn out to be strong always prevail over those who arrogantly think they are powerful but prove otherwise.
Doom, destined to be a supervillain, had quick reflexes. Seeing that he had easily dispatched one opponent, he immediately assessed the disparity in strength between them.
If the other party was so weak, it must mean he was too strong!
With his characteristically arrogant demeanor, Doom concluded that he was indeed powerful. Confidence surging, magic flowing through his hands, his eyes gleamed cruelly as he cast a crisscrossing net of electricity towards another grey-robed figure attempting a sneak attack with a short sword.
The unsuspecting grey-robed man crashed into the electric net, his skin, muscles, and bones instantly turning to char, killing him on the spot in a grisly manner.
"Ah!" Seeing his two companions killed, the fat mage wielding the axe still cried out bravely, ready to fight to the death.
Daisy realized that apart from the Ancient One, the Kamar-Taj seemed to have no one competent in combat.
Not wanting to watch the fat mage meet his end, Daisy lightly lifted her left hand, unnoticed by anyone else, and used her gravitational control to pull the mage, whose skill set seemed limited to charging and hacking, back from the front lines.
"For the Sorcerer Supreme—eh?" The fat mage felt as though he was running forward, but somehow Doom was getting further and further away.
Unaware of the intricacies involved, Doom thought the mage's retreat was due to his own abilities and held back his lethal move.
"I?..." Holding his axe, the mage looked around at the array of Daisy's mechanical soldiers and the two living people, Daisy and Black Widow, who paid him no mind. Confused about how he had retreated, he still felt compelled to charge forward due to his mission.
Daisy effortlessly held him back, the difference in their strength as stark as that between an adult and a child.
"Activate recording function, three, two, one, fire!" Following her voice command, the mechanical soldiers' shoulder cannons launched a barrage of missiles at Doom.
"This is a Pentagon operation, you... you might want to step aside." She waved the fat mage off to rest while she began orchestrating the scene.
"First squad, fire Hammer Sidewinder missiles, second squad, prepare incendiary shells, third squad, ready for combat."
"Second squad, open fire, third squad, prepare armor-piercing rounds, first squad, ready for combat."
"Third squad, open fire, first squad..."
Anyway, Daisy was demonstrating the capabilities of her equipment; encountering a target as rare as this, she quickly orchestrated the sequence of attacks to achieve saturation firing.
On the side, the fat mage looked at his axe. He was brave, but not stupid. During the barrage of bullets and lasers, he wasn't about to rush in; he just regretted that his companions' bodies were probably unrecoverable.
"Government's dog, you think I'd fear your kind of attack? You shallow-minded fools, let me show you my power!" Initially panicked, Doom soon realized that no grenades or lasers could penetrate his magical shield, and his arrogance resurfaced.
While he was proclaiming his superiority, he felt signs of fatigue; he was merely forcing himself to maintain the magical shield, knowing that without it, the barrage could annihilate him.
"Launch the Ex-Wife!" Daisy, hearing his defiance, didn't care; judging the situation ripe, she ordered the launch of eight Hammer's ex wifes at Doom.
A massive explosion sounded through more than half of Manhattan, with clouds of smoke filling the air and three nearby buildings reduced to rubble. Under Doom's feet, a huge crater was blasted into the ground.
"The shield's energy is weakening, it's working, Ms. Johnson, keep your machines attacking!" Rhodes announced excitedly from within his armor, which was equipped with energy-detecting devices.
Daisy didn't need his confirmation; she was ten times more sensitive to energy fluctuations than he was. The shield was more than just weakening—it was barely holding up.
Just as she was about to finish off Doom with the missiles, a deep red figure streaked across the sky. The red and gold armor, streamlined in design, belonged to none other than Tony Stark.
