Transmigration: The Peerless Immortal Husband

Chapter 10 - Making Spirit Talismans

Tian Feirong happily followed Gu Yao and Chi Changye back to the small courtyard. Along the way, he casually introduced himself to Chi Changye, calling him “Brother Chi” with familiarity. This made Gu Yao give him a strange look. Before yesterday, Gu Yao and this young master from the Tian family had never had any prior interactions. If Tian Feirong was aiming to make trouble for the Gu family, wanting to see the Gu family in a bad light, it would have been quite difficult to get this far.

Hearing Tian Feirong call Chi Changye “Brother Chi,” Gu Yao scratched his head. Yesterday, when he first heard the name, why did he suddenly call him “Brother Ye”? Well, whatever. Chi Changye didn’t object, so it was fine.

Back at the small courtyard, Gu Yao and Chi Changye each got busy with their tasks. Tian Feirong didn’t need any special attention and was content to entertain himself. However, he was fully aware of what Gu Yao and Chi Changye were doing. They didn’t avoid him, and the courtyard wasn’t big enough to conceal their actions.

Curiosity filled Tian Feirong’s heart. One seemed to be studying alchemy, while the other was seriously making spirit talismans inside. Regardless of whether they succeeded or not, just their dedication impressed him. They had just been kicked out the day before, drugged and humiliated, then caught on the spot, and yet the next day, both of them acted like nothing had happened, going about their work as if it were a regular day. He, on the other hand, felt like an outsider, overly surprised by their calmness.

“Bang!”

Another failed attempt at creating a spirit talisman came from inside the room. Tian Feirong, secretly amused, thought to himself that becoming a talisman master wasn’t that easy. If those twins had really managed to get a talisman master and sent him to Gu Yao’s bed, they would probably regret it so much that they would be spitting blood. It would be a huge loss.

While he was lost in thought, Chi Changye came out of the room with a dark expression on his face. After more than a dozen failed attempts, he had to admit that he had been overly optimistic. He had often watched his mother make talismans, and it didn’t seem that difficult. But when it came to his turn, he realized just how wrong he had been.

“Brother Chi, take a break. Every talisman master has gone through countless failures, learning from their mistakes and growing. You’ve only just started, so there’s no need to rush. Take your time,” Tian Feirong said with a smiling face. Yesterday, he had thought that Chi Changye was just an ordinary person, but today he realized that he was also a cultivator. However, he had been severely injured, and whether he could continue cultivating was uncertain. The spiritual energy he could currently channel seemed to be limited.

“Brother Tian, do you have any spirit talismans? Could I borrow one to take a look?” Chi Changye decided to be more practical and start from the basics.

“Huh? Yes, I have a few. I’ll give them to you right now, Brother Chi.” Tian Feirong didn’t expect Chi Changye to continue pursuing this. He quickly took out a few spirit talismans from his storage bag. “Could it be that Brother Chi wasn’t making these basic talismans just now? Have you really learned how to make talismans?”

Chi Changye took the talismans, thanked him, and replied, “My mother comes from a family of talisman masters. I’ve been exposed to it since I was young, though I haven’t done much myself. I just wanted to give it another try.”

Tian Feirong’s pupils contracted slightly. A family of talisman masters? So Chi Changye was indeed no ordinary person. There were three cultivation families in the town, and the Lu family was the best at talisman-making. But he believed even the Lu family wouldn’t claim to be a family of talisman masters. If Chi Changye could really make talismans, that would be something—then what would the Lu family have to be proud of?

“Ah, I see, Brother Chi has a deep family background. In that case, I wish you success.”

Chi Changye nodded slightly and turned to enter the room. Before stepping in, he glanced toward Gu Yao’s room. Seeing there was no movement inside, he continued on into the room. For now, earning money as quickly as possible was the priority.

Chi Changye had originally been a Golden Core cultivator, but when he passed through a spatial rift to escape with his life, his cultivation dropped to the Qi Refining stage, and his divine sense was also severely damaged. However, even with the damage, he was still stronger than the average Qi Refining cultivator, and his eyesight remained at the Golden Core level. Therefore, examining the symbols on the spirit talismans wasn’t difficult for him, even if there were some obfuscations on the talismans.

After destroying several more talisman papers, Chi Changye finally found the correct method. Though he had never made talismans himself, he had followed his mother around and learned a lot about them. So, he wasn’t lacking in theoretical knowledge; it was just the practical part that was challenging. Making talismans didn’t require too much spiritual power—just a little to guide the surrounding spiritual energy, which would then be infused into the talisman script with the brush.

When the script took form and he finished writing, spiritual energy surged, and was finally locked in by the script. A basic Fireball Talisman was successfully created. Compared to a blank sheet of talisman paper, the Fireball Talisman emitted a faint glow. Chi Changye let out a long breath. This lowest-level talisman actually gave him a greater sense of accomplishment than a set of sword techniques he had learned. He couldn’t help but chuckle and shake his head.

“Brother Chi, did you really succeed?!” Tian Feirong’s voice came from behind. He had sensed the change in spiritual energy from outside the courtyard and rushed in. When he saw the Fireball Talisman freshly created in Chi Changye’s hand, he was stunned.

Chi Changye’s expression remained calm. “It’s just a low-level Fireball Talisman. It’s nothing special. Brother Tian, how about we strike a deal?”

Tian Feirong was momentarily taken aback. A low-level Fireball Talisman? This Chi Changye certainly had high standards. He didn’t even think much of such a basic talisman. Now that he saw Chi Changye’s successful creation, he truly believed that Chi Changye’s family was indeed a family of talisman masters.

“Brother Chi, please speak.” Tian Feirong’s tone had become more respectful. Now that Chi Changye could make talismans, his status was clearly much different, and his attitude toward him was bound to change as well.
