Volume 1 Chapter 25.1: Ghost
“Ning Chu, do you want to apply for school subsidies? It can help you.”
Later in the evening, Wen Yang came behind Ning Chu, holding the back of his chair with both hands, bending down to look at his computer screen, and asked, “If you need it, you have to fill out an application. It needs to be submitted this weekend.”
Wen Yang had become the class monitor and occasionally had to complete tasks assigned from above.
Ning Chu paused the video, turned his head to look behind, and asked, “What about you?”
“My family isn’t poor enough for that. Forget it,” Wen Yang shook his head. “Besides, the school has already reduced my tuition. It’s not good to take more subsidies.”
You might as well take the subsidy. I’m afraid you won’t have enough money and end up working outside, getting involved in things you shouldn’t.
Ning Chu complained in his heart and shook his head to reject the idea.
“Okay.”
“Oi, you haven’t asked me yet.” Zhang Shaoqing, with a playful smile, approached, “Can I get a subsidy?”
The two turned around, squinted their eyes, and simultaneously denied with a disdainful look at Zhang Shaoqing, “No!”
Ning Chu looked at him with a face full of disdain and pursed his lips. “Can’t you, as a rich second generation, have a little shame? This subsidy is for students who can barely afford to eat while going to school. What about you? You eat lavish meals every day, and sometimes spend hundreds of yuan on a single meal.”
Wen Yang agreed, “Your pair of shoes could cover a year’s worth of subsidies.”
“I was just joking.” Zhang Shaoqing had a playful smile on his face.
No one knew whether he was joking or not.
Although they had become somewhat familiar with him, Ning Chu still retained the image of the antagonist from the novel.
He hasn’t turned dark yet, but he’s already showing the characteristics of someone others might dislike.
“Hey, where are you going?” Seeing Wen Yang walking towards the door, Ning Chu immediately stood up, following him like a loyal follower.
“I’m planning to go to the cafeteria, I’m starving.”
“What a coincidence! I happen to be hungry too!”
Wen Yang paused, glanced back at Ning Chu’s clingy appearance, didn’t say much, and walked straight out.
After passing through the doors of several adjacent dorms, the two left the dormitory area, crossed the large square, and arrived at the nearest cafeteria.
The cafeteria was a three-story building, with fast-food and a small supermarket on the first floor, and various dining establishments on the second and third floors within the campus. The cafeteria’s food was decent, and compared to takeout, it was considered economical.
“It was said on the forum that someone ate bugs in the cafeteria yesterday.” Wen Yang grabbed a tray and casually shared the latest news with Ning Chu, adding, “The big one.”
“Don’t talk about that when we’re eating…”
Ning Chu’s face darkened, and his appetite, stirred by the aroma of the food, diminished considerably.
“You mentioned you had something earlier?”
“Yeah, I saw a little cat before. After we finish eating, I plan to buy something and feed it. I was so excited when I saw that little black cat! I originally wanted to bring it back to the dorm, but I was afraid you guys would dislike cats!”
“I don’t really care.”
“Do you know? That cat was acting like a scammer! I just touched it a couple of times, and it immediately lay down on my shoes, refusing to get up. In the end, I had to give it a piece of ham before it let me go.”
Ning Chu picked up his dinner, took the tray, and followed Wen Yang in small steps.
This guy was tall with long legs, covering twice the distance with one step, which meant Ning Chu had to speed up to keep up with him.
Sitting across from Wen Yang, he opened the disposable chopsticks, but heard Wen Yang suddenly ask, “Why do I feel like you’re just like Shaoqing said— wherever I go, you have to follow?”
Ning Chu’s hand paused, feeling a bit flustered, but pretended to be indifferent as he lowered his head to eat, “Huh? No, not at all.”
“It’s like you’re really worried when I go out alone.”
“How could that be?”
Wen Yang also put down his chopsticks, scrutinizing Ning Chu.
