Trapped in Paradise

Chapter 284

Chapter 284: Mother

Sitting in a taxi, Mother arrived at her daughter’s university entrance.

It was right around noon, and a bunch of lively students laughed and played as they walked past her.

After waiting for a moment, just a few minutes later, she spotted her daughter approaching from afar through the low automatic doors.

In just one glance, she sensed something unusual about her daughter.

The last time they met, her daughter stood tall and graceful, her face youthful, with only a hint of succubus aura evident between her brows.

But now, her daughter exuded a strong femininity, her complexion rosy and glistening, radiating alluring charm in every smile and frown that seemed to attract men’s gazes.

Her face looked as innocent as a junior high school student…

And that slightly awkward gait; her thighs didn’t seem to be pressed together as tightly as before.

Mother wasn’t sure whether to be happy that Ning Chu finally accepted her succubus identity or to be furious that some poor kid had captured her daughter’s attention.

“Mom~”

Ning Chu jogged up to her mother, hugging her arm with a beaming smile, “Let’s go! I’ll treat you to the cafeteria~”

“After a long time, you just want to eat at the cafeteria?”

“The cafeteria has expensive dishes too, you know! And hot pot!”

Mother looked her up and down, then sniffed, sharp enough to catch a faint sweet scent wafting from her daughter.

She struggled to conceal her nervousness, afraid that something might get revealed, but under her mother’s scrutinizing gaze, she found it hard to keep a straight face.

Oh no! Mother won’t misunderstand that I’ve already given it away, right?!

Though for a succubus, giving it away would be the norm…

But I’m still a pure little succubus, okay?! Even though I’ve been explored from head to toe, it’s pretty much the same as giving it away.

Ning Chu nervously tugged at her mother’s arm: “Let’s go~”

“What about that boy of yours?”

“He went to the cafeteria early to order food, so you wouldn’t have to wait when you arrive.”

“It’s still him? Haven’t you found someone else?”

“Why would I?”

She could clearly sense her mother’s disapproval of Wen Yang; her tone had unexpectedly risen but quickly lowered again, mumbling like a mosquito, “Can we not talk about my business…”

One side was the mother she hadn’t seen in over a decade from a parallel world, and the other was her boyfriend who had been by her side since her reincarnation; Ning Chu was unwilling to choose between the two.

It was too difficult.

Her mother helplessly rubbed Ning Chu’s little head: “You need to trim your long hair; look at how messy it is.”

“I’m too lazy to cut it; haircuts here cost thirty or forty bucks; it’s too expensive.”

Seeing her mother change the subject, Ning Chu immediately smiled, clutching her mother’s arm as they headed toward the cafeteria.

“Mom~ do you want to change your phone?”

“Why would I change my phone?”

“Look at what shape your phone is in; the screen is all cracked and it’s lagging like crazy.”

Her mother joked with a smile: “I don’t have money, so you buy me one?”

“Exactly! Something around two thousand, you choose!” Ning Chu proudly flaunted her nasty smirk, boasting, “I’ve made quite a bit of money writing novels online!”

“Last month, a rich person even gave me a thousand yuan tip!”

Her mother didn’t quite understand, but nodded along: “We need more rich people like that.”

“I wish I could get more~ but not enough people are watching,” Ning Chu complained, but her excitement was evident, “I can earn two to three thousand a month! When I get my payment around the fifteenth, I’ll change your phone; you can go pick one out first~”

“Just don’t let it affect your studies.”

“Don’t worry!”

“Save up and buy me an Apple?”

“Uh… Mom, you can’t be so ruthless when robbing the rich~”

“Save it for your little boyfriend~”

Ning Chu muttered quietly: “He doesn’t need me to support him…”

Along the school’s path, the mother-daughter pair chatted, and after a ten-minute walk, they finally reached the cafeteria.

“We’ll go to the third floor; the first floor is all fast food.”

The cafeteria had tiers, the first floor offered cheap fast food that filled you up for ten bucks, the second floor had stalls with burgers and spicy hot pot, while the third floor was a bit more upscale where dishes were cooked to order.

If they wanted, they could take the campus bus to another area; supposedly, the cafeteria there had better food, but to avoid triggering the plot, Ning Chu hadn’t been there all semester.

“Mom, what time are you leaving?”

“I’ll leave after I finish my tasks; if everything doesn’t go smoothly, I might have to wait until tomorrow.”

“I spoke to your counselor in advance; she said to come to her office at two this afternoon.”

“That old hag~”

Ning Chu was a bit worried that her counselor might have some bias against her.

As they climbed the stairs to the third floor, they quickly spotted Wen Yang standing by the stairs.

He wore a somewhat unnatural business-like smile and greeted enthusiastically: “Hello, Auntie~”

“Hmm.”

Mother replied flatly.

“Over here, the dishes are already served; just waiting for Auntie to arrive.”

Ning Chu sneaked a glance at her mother’s face that wore a polite smile.

It was clear Mother was still struggling to accept Wen Yang.

If the roles were reversed, she wouldn’t want Hei Dou being courted by some poor kid whose parents had passed away; it didn’t matter how good his material conditions were—he at least should not be worse than their family.

Understanding didn’t mean acceptance.

“Mom~” she tugged at her mother’s hand, frowning in dissatisfaction.

Mother sighed helplessly.

Don’t steer away, now~

Arriving at the table, four dishes and a soup were already steaming hot.

Wen Yang busily arranged the bowls and chopsticks and even ladled out a small bowl of soup; only then did he sit down facing the mother and daughter, opening his mouth but not knowing what to say.

He could only sit there obediently, looking somewhat wooden.

“Mom, let Wen Yang take you to find the counselor this afternoon; he’s the class monitor and knows the counselor pretty well.”

“Right, I’m quite familiar with the counselor, I’ll take Auntie there this afternoon.”

Mother nodded lightly as she held her rice bowl: “Okay.”

As she ate, her eyes scrutinized Wen Yang, making him squirm in discomfort.

It had to be said, this little punk was indeed handsome; from a succubus’s perspective, he was a pretty suitable partner.

But from a marriage standpoint, he was just good-looking and nothing else.

“Mom, why are you staring at Wen Yang while eating?” Ning Chu helplessly clamped a piece of meat for her mother, “After we finish eating, I’ll take you for a walk; the campus scenery is quite nice, just a bit cold.”

“It’s colder than our place. Have you bought any clothes lately?”

“Yeah, bought two jackets and some fleece-lined leggings.” She grumbled, “Having a tail is so inconvenient; I still have to wear a skirt in winter, or else it won’t be concealed.”

“If you want, you can let it show.”

She shook her head rapidly: “Not a chance!”

Even if her tail didn’t have overly sensitive traits, she didn’t want to expose it.

Since she couldn’t see it from behind, it made her tail feel insecure.
