The heroine, which is called Haru was a survivor of one of the Maou terrorist attacks and she swore revenge on him for what he did at her mother's concert in Russia, which is bombing the concert... killed her mother as the result. The accident did happen in Russia, by the way, I did watch it on the international television channel a few years ago.
As you guess it right, Maou is the villain of the story. Heroine chasing the antagonist, protagonist helped her and they are fallen in love together. Classic love story.
There's also the truth is Maou also wants to revenge on Azai Gonzou for what he has done to his family while he was away. Maou monicker's true identity is Kyousuke's older brother but Kyousuke didn't know that until the later part of the story.
There is also their father, who at near the end revealed was alive, but was held hostage by Azai Gonzou as his secret weapon in case Kyousuke or Maou cornered him. Yes, Gonzou is smart and loves to play dirty.
Again, Good thing he is already dead.
