Chapter 33 - Storm 3
In the force of 20 gales, Mai Dongzi felt like a tiny, light speck of dust.
If she hadn’t tied herself to the trunk of the poplar tree cleverly, it would have been a dream to hold her body in the gale with her short arms that couldn’t wrap around the trunk.
But her nerves were still tense because the swaying poplar tree in the gale made her feel that the tree would be broken at any time.
Fortunately, after observing for a while, Mai Dongzi found that although the poplar tree was swaying wildly in the gale, neither the trunk nor the remaining branches were in danger of being broken for the time being, so she breathed a sigh of relief.
The parachute rope was of excellent quality and could withstand the pull of the force of 20 gales. Mai Dongzi temporarily relaxed her tense nerves and went to solve another problem.
The sandstorm rolled up countless pieces of sand and hit her face. In this situation, she couldn’t breathe through her nose at all. Therefore, after the eye of the sandstorm passed and the gale started again, she kept breathing through her mouth.
The whole sandstorm was full of yellow sand. It was difficult to breathe. When she breathed through her mouth, she would inevitably suck sand into her mouth. Therefore, she had to spit out the sand in her mouth after taking a few breaths. It was really miserable.
Fortunately, when the original owner left the Xi family, she packed all her daily necessities and put them in the space buckle.
The items in the space buckle, with Mai Dongzi’s mental strength, can be moved by mental power. She used mental power to manipulate the scissors and cut a long strip of cloth from the parachute.
Then take out the long strip of cloth, cover her mouth and nose, and tie it tightly to the back of her head so that when she breathes through her mouth, the sand will not be directly poured into her mouth, and she can breathe more smoothly.
But even if she solved the breathing problem, she still felt very uncomfortable.
You know, the strong wind is wrapped in sand, and the sand hitting the body is more painful than the heavy rain hitting the body.
Even though the combat suit she was wearing could prevent such damage, the fact that she was not hurt did not mean that she was not in pain. In short, she felt very uncomfortable, especially since her head, face, and hands were still exposed.
Mai Dongzi freed one hand and pulled out the hood of the combat suit collar in the strong wind. It took a lot of effort to finally put the hood on her head, and then she put her forehead against the poplar tree, and then she felt more comfortable.
In order to have enough mental power to deal with the crisis when the situation was critical and to not lose the vest of mental power, Mai Dongzi did not dare to use too much mental power.
Otherwise, even if her current mental power was only in the middle stage of the fifth level, she could use mental power to form a barrier to block the wind and sand.
In such an environment, every second counts.
Mai Dongzi felt that time seemed to have passed for a long time, and she was almost dizzy from the shaking poplar tree.
But Mai Dongzi didn’t dare to faint at all, because she “saw” that the sand dunes around the oasis, pushed by the strong wind, had gradually “walked” into the oasis and were gradually engulfing the oasis from all directions.
First, the green land around the Oasis Lake was covered by sand dunes more than ten meters high, then the volcanic rocks where Maidongzi had originally hidden, and then the Oasis Lake. The deepest part of the oasis lake is only seven or eight meters. Although the lake is large, it can’t withstand the sand dunes on all sides.
The sand dunes that moved first stopped after being soaked by the lake water. The sand dunes behind her continued to move under the force of the wind, slowly and firmly crossing the sand dunes in front until they buried the entire oasis lake. The mutant poplar tree where Mai Dongzi was located was closer to the oasis lake. According to her visual observation, this mutant poplar tree should be three or four hundred years old, with a stump at least two meters thick and a height of nearly twenty meters.
In her original visual observation, the height of the sand dune was not enough to bury the entire poplar tree, so she quickly moved to the poplar tree when the wind force of the sandstorm was weaker.
However, when the sand dune moved over and was still more than ten meters away from the poplar tree, Mai Dongzi estimated that her position was still too low. The height of this sand dune was two or three meters higher than the height of the poplar tree.
Mai Dongzi’s position was still two or three meters away from the top of the tree, so she had to untie the parachute rope that tied her to the poplar tree pole and climb to the top of the poplar tree.
With Mai Dongzi’s skills, climbing to the top of the tree would be a piece of cake if it were normal times.
But now she not only had to fight against the gusts of wind that wanted to pull her away but also against the poplar tree that was shaking violently in the wind to avoid being thrown out.
So in just a distance of two or three meters, she felt as if she had climbed thousands of mountains and rivers.
This was still after such a long period of violent sandstorms, and the poplar tree only had thick branches left, which were fully able to bear her weight. Otherwise, she might have been holding on to a branch and fell free fall.
When the sand dunes began to bury the poplar tree, Maidongzi felt the power of the sandstorm and found no signs of weakening. Then she looked at the sand dunes that were several meters higher than the poplar tree.
Even if she climbed to the top of the tree, she would inevitably be buried by the sand dunes. She could only survive if she jumped onto the sand dunes when the sand dunes submerged the poplar tree.
But there were moving sand dunes all around. Even if she jumped to the top of the sand dunes, she had no place to fix her body, and she would only end up being swept away by the wind.
At this moment, Mai Dongzi remembered the six- or seven-meter-long parachute rope that she had put into her space backpack.
She used her mental power to prop up a protective shield so that she could free one hand in the strong wind, tied the parachute rope to the thickest branch at the top of the poplar tree, and tied the other end to her waist.
Mai Dongzi used a dagger to cut a branch that was almost two meters long and then continued to climb to the top of the tree when the sand dunes submerged her heels.
The sand dune soon submerged the poplar tree, and without the support of the poplar tree, Mai Dongzi fell on the sand dune.
On the sand dune, Mai Dongzi felt like rootless duckweed, completely unable to resist the strong wind. If it weren’t for the rope around her waist, she didn’t know where she would be blown to.
Even so, she was like a kite, and the wind blew her body away from the sand dune from time to time, and then she was pulled back by the rope.
But the sand dunes continued to move, and she had to lengthen the rope around her waist every once in a while to avoid being pulled into the sand by the rope that was not long enough.
Fortunately, Mai Dongzi cut a branch, and after she tried hard to insert the branch into the sand dune, she stabilized her body and tried to move back to the top of the poplar tree, keeping the rope as vertical as possible.
In this way, the parachute rope could be pulled to the longest length, avoiding the tragedy of having to cut the parachute rope because the parachute rope was not long enough, and then passively flying with the wind.
