Chapter 46: The First Group of Supplies
"About your delay... The pregnancy test you asked me to do already has a result." Candace looked at Lori with a smile on her lips, she was very happy to tell this news.
"The pregnancy test result?" Lori's heart skipped a beat, she never thought that sudden idea of hers about her delay was really a baby.
Candace smiled and explained to Lori, "There's so much more! Besides giving you the result, I have something very important to tell you this time, can I come in and talk about it?"
Lori realized she was being rude at this point and invited Candace into the small room.
After the two sat down, Candace continued, "Arion told me something a few weeks ago before they left, I forgot to tell everyone after I got busy in the lab, sorry!"
Hearing Candace's sudden apology, Lori quickly waved her hand and pointed out, "No, all of us should be thanking you! If you hadn't accepted us, how could we live in such good conditions?"
"Haha, Airon was the one who convinced me to start accepting refugees into the facility. Besides, they also took care of collecting many valuable medical devices and medicines, so there's nothing to worry about even if you're pregnant, you don't have to worry, we have enough medical tools to ensure smooth delivery!"
"And most importantly, our group has made great progress in studying the virus, allowing us to create the first vaccine."
"Can you cure this virus?" Lori couldn't believe it, her eyes widened and she looked at Candace in surprise.
Candace knew Lori had misunderstood and calmly explained, "It's not what you think, we have actually developed a vaccine, but it can't prevent infection by walker bite, to tell you the truth we are still very much stuck with the research."
Hearing this, Lori's originally excited mood instantly cooled, but Candace's next words brought her hope once again.
"Although we cannot solve the problem of infection caused by undead bites, our vaccines can already immunize people against infections caused by airborne and non-blood contact. In other words we will no longer be infected, even if we die accidentally or naturally, we will not become walkers once our functions in our body stop working."
"This is amazing!" Lori was so happy she wanted to scream out loud.
"Mom, don't we have to be afraid in the future?" Carl tugged on the corner of Lori's clothes innocently.
Lori hugged Carl and said cheerfully, "No, honey, we still can't go back to the way we were, but we'll get better and better in the future!"
Candace stood up and said to Lori after she finished speaking, "Then I won't bother you and I have to report back to the others!"
"Okay, thank you!" Lori got up and hugged Candace. At this moment, she was very grateful that her team chose to follow Airon out of the quarry and, by the way, she also thanked Airon even more for all his efforts.
After saying goodbye to Candace, Lori was anxious to run to the bathroom and, after a while, came out with some sheets from her pregnancy test. It had been over two weeks since she had been reunited with her husband, it was a surprise that she got pregnant in such a short time.
She got to the bed and hugged Carl, Lori asked softly, "Baby! Do you want a brother or a sister?"
"Mrs. Jenner, the first batch of supplies has been sent, when they return we will begin evacuating the first group of refugees!" Tyler reported from the other side of the door in a clear voice.
"I understand, I'll be right there to discuss it with Mr. Valdez." Candace Janner said after being silent for a moment and her footsteps could be heard moving quickly outside the door.
...
Outside the CDC facility, ten large trucks escorted by four Humvees with machine guns and two tanks prepared to leave for the prison. If all went well, Sam knew that Airon would return with the trucks to begin the journey with the survivors and the rest of the resources.
This time half of the community force is leaving with that large convoy of trucks and military vehicles, this trip would be the most important as that is where the most valuable resources go.
"Will everything go well?" asked George Burcea with a somewhat blank stare.
"Let's hope so, the prison Airon mentioned should now be being cleared, the place seems much more suitable than the city." Sam Valdez said with a nod.
When Candace relayed the news that the first batch of supplies would be shipped to the new shelter, everyone at the CDC was filled with a cheerful atmosphere.
And Airon, who was in the prison, also received the news that the first batch of important resources was headed here.
At this moment, standing outside a gymnasium, he was looking down the hallway filled with walkers. This time there was no reason for him to move, dozens of people were in two groups clearing the walkers with relative ease.
When he turned his head some time later, the more experienced group of people had just finished cleaning the walkers in the hallway of the gym. At first, everyone was very puzzled that the number of walkers that had been cleared seemed not to be the original number that should be here.
However, when the doors leading to the outside gym were opened, this thought dissipated in everyone's minds. There were walkers densely clustered in the gym. Everyone relied on the shields at the front of the formation to resist the exit. After some slight turbulence, the combat formation proved very effective and everyone began to move forward.
At this point, everyone was fighting and mopping up. After Airon received word from Candace, he immediately notified everyone about the first batch of supplies heading this way and everyone was excited.
Originally, there were still a large number of walkers in the gym and people seemed to get tired, but suddenly they instantly perked up, now it seemed like the walkers in front of them were insignificant things.
The cleaning job, which was originally planned to be completed in the evening, was abruptly moved up an hour due to everyone's high morale!
Airon's eyes sparkled with excitement at seeing this, he knew they were insignificant things when considering the future, but for a start this was fine. At this time, Airon and the others headed to the prison cafeteria that had been cleaned up a few days ago, thinking about dinner. At this point, everyone who had been busy for a day cleaning the place and killing walkers couldn't take it anymore, and ran like children to the cafeteria.
Tables and chairs had been rearranged in the cafeteria, and everyone received a large portion of food on their plates and began to feast heavily.
Airon was also sitting in front of a table, the food in front of him had not yet been touched and he was looking at some documents in his hand, Daryl and Rick were sitting next to him.
Looking at the information on the documents, Airon dropped the white sheets on the table.
"What do you think of our friends?"
"Holju, blah, bwa!" Merle said as he choked on the food in his mouth.
Seeing that everyone ignored him as they dove into the food, Airon also decided to do the same, he was starving right now.
Fifteen minutes later.
"Did everyone eat well?"
Although Airon was the last to eat, he was the first to finish.
"Ah, I'm so full!"
"It's been a long time since I've enjoyed a meal like this!"
All kinds of exclamations came from the group members around, and Airon also looked at these people present with satisfaction, the togetherness of this community was getting stronger and stronger.
Finally, when the people around them finished eating, Airon took the papers again and pushed them in front of them.
Several people with the titles of group captains picked up the papers and looked at him intently. The more Merle looked at him, the stranger his face became and he laughed even more in the back, but Rick was different and you could see the anger in his eyes. After a while, several people circulated the information as if it were a newspaper. Looking at it, everyone's expression is also changing.
"How do you see it?" Airon put his hands on the table and his fingers tapped lightly from time to time. These documents were the criminal records of the five previous prisoners. Shane asked someone to find them.
"This Axel has bad luck, hahahaha!" Merle smiled heartlessly.
Everyone ignored Merle. Rick held Thomas and Andrew's case and remained silent for a while. He was a little hesitant now. He remembered the words Airon told him earlier, their group planned to live here for a long time in the future. Is it really good to let them go? If the other party really wants revenge?
Daryl hesitated for a moment, he pointed to the paper in his hand and said, "Oscar's sentence already expired, and Axel and Big Tiny are almost the same. I think these three people are not very dangerous. But the other two are serious criminals, and I don't think it's a good idea to let them leave this place."
"You think so too?" Airon stopped tapping the table and asked as he sat upright.
His eyes reflected a murderous intent, he had definitely made up his mind long before reading the documents of these prisoners.
