(3rd POV)
Returning home from his morning run, Sam Wilson heard a knock at his door, so he went to open the door only to see Steve and Natasha standing on his door step.
"I'm sorry about this, but we need a place to lay low." Steve immediately said.
"Everyone we know is trying to kill us." Natasha added helpfully.
Sam paused a moment before replying, "Not everyone." He then lets them enter and quickly closes the door behind them.
Sam then told them to make themselves at home and left them to clean up. Steve, who was slightly distracted by his thoughts after last night's revelations, suddenly noticed Natasha looking out of sorts.
"Are you okay?" He suddenly asked.
"Yes"She answered.
"Tell me what's wrong." He said, trying to urge her to speak.
She sighed, and after a beat of silence, said, "When I first joined SHIELD, I thought I was going straight. But I guess I just traded in the KGB for HYDRA. I thought I knew whose lies I was telling, but... I guess I can't tell the difference anymore. "
"There's a chance you might be in the wrong business." Steve said, trying to lighten the sombre mood that seemed to have fallen over her.
Natasha smiled faintly and said, "You seem pretty chipper for someone who just found out they died for nothing."
"Well, I guess I just like to know who I'm fighting," Steve said.
Sam suddenly walked in on them, but noticing the strange atmosphere he awkwardly said. "Uhh.. am I interrupting something?"
"No, we were just finishing up. Did you need anything? " Steve said.
"I just came to tell you I made breakfast. If you guys... eat that sort of thing," Sam said.
The next few minutes saw the three of them sitting at a dinner table, chatting as they ate their breakfast.
"So, the question is: who in SHIELD could launch a domestic missile strike? " Nat said.
"Pierce." Steve confidently answered.
"Who happens to be sitting on top of the most secure building in the world?" Nat added.
"But he's not working alone. Zola's algorithm was on the Lemurian Star." Steve said.
"So was Jasper Sitwell." Nat said.
"So, the real question is: how do the two most wanted people in Washington kidnap a SHIELD officer in broad daylight?" Steve said.
"The answer is: you don't." "Sam said as he dropped a file in front of Steve.
"What's this?" Steve asked.
"Call it a resume." Sam said.
Natasha picked up a photo of Sam with his para-rescue team. "Is this Bakhmala? The Khalid Khandil mission, that was you. " She turned to Steve. You didn't say he was a pararescue." Steve just shrugged.
She then turned to Sam and said, "I heard they couldn't bring in the choppers because of the RPGs." What did you use, a stealth chute? "
"No. These." He said as he handed them another file.
"I thought you said you were a pilot," Steve said, as he looked over the file.
"I never said pilot," Sam said, with a smirk.
I can't ask you to do this, Sam. You got out for a good reason. " Steve said, feeling a bit guilty for dragging Sam into this.
"Dude, Captain America needs my help. There's no better reason to get back in. " Sam said.
Then, where can we get our hands on one of these things? " Steve asked.
"The last one is at Fort Meade, behind three guarded gates and a twelve-inch steel wall."
Steve looked at Natasha, who just shrugged her shoulders and said, "Shouldn't be a problem."
(POV End)
While Sam, Nat and Steve were busy planning a heist to get Sam his Falcon wings.
Kitty was just finishing up installing the Trojan that Sophie had provided her with. Since, the hellicarriers were operating on a closed network. She had to sneak into all three of them before she was finished. So, although it took her a while she was just about done with the first part of her mission and was already moving on to the next part.
Still invisible she quickly found a utility room that didn't have any cameras and hardly anyone used and quickly set up the teleportation marker and activated it.
A few moments later, a portal opened up and Callisto and Madrox came strolling out in their stealth suits.
"Took you long enough." Madrox said, as soon as he saw Kitty.
"Do you have any idea how big this place is? I had to walk to each terminal on three different hellicarriers, since portals would draw too much attention, not mention sneak past motion, heat, sound, and pressure sensors. " Kitty chortled.
"And, here I thought you could walk through walls." Madrox said, with a mocking tone.
"Yes, but I can't just keep it on for hours, it's too exhausting." She said.
"Madrox, just shut up and get on with it. We don't have enough time for this crap." Callisto said.
Madrox cracked his neck and said, "I hate this part." He then closed his eyes and moments later, two exact copies wearing the exact same suit as Madrox emerged from his body.
One of the clones immediately said, "I wonder if that's what being born feels like."
The other clone snickered, "I don't think the original appreciates your comment."
"For fuck's sake, can you behave for once? We're on a mission. Just get in position and don't screw up. " Madrox said, impatiently.
"Don't worry, boss, we'll get right on it." The first clone drawled, obviously unconcerned.
Madrox was getting a bit angry at his clone's attitude. Normally he would absorb the ones who gave him an attitude right away, but there wasn't much time left.
All of his clones had to get into position, and if they didn't want to draw attention to themselves, he had to make 2 clones at 10 minutes intervals. So, they could easily sneak to where they needed to go without triggering any alarms.
"Is it just me, or don't you find it weird that he's arguing with himself?" Kitty whispered to Callisto.
"His clones are as much of a pain in the ass as he is. Not all of them pop out right, and sometimes they take on certain aspects of his personality or just turn out completely different. " Callisto said.
"Isn't that dangerous?" Kitty said, a bit surprised.
Callisto shrugged, "Sure, it comes with some risks, but the boss gave Madrox a device that allows him to track all of his clones and keep track of them in case he needs to reabsorb them. Some manage to escape though and gaine their freedom. "
"You make it sound like they're his slaves." Kitty said, unsure on what to think.
"He usually goes after the psychos, since they could end up causing too much damage. But, I heard a few of them made lives for themselves and are living happily. " Callisto said.
At Kitty's disbelieving look, Callisto smirked, "One of them even became a pastor." He's called "Father John" and lives in Wisconsin. "
By the time Kitty and Callisto had finished chatting, the two clones had already left.
So, over the next few hours, Madrox kept producing clones before sending them to get into their positions.
The clones all had stealth suits on similar to the one the original was wearing. His powers had the useful ability of also duplicating whatever it is he was wearing but the clothes would dissappear as soon as clone took it off.
By the time he was finished, the Triskileton was filled with hundreds of invisible clones, all ready to take action the moment project "Insight" was launched.
"All that's left to do now is wait." Callisto said.
(Cypher POV)
'This is a mistake.'
I couldn't help but think as I watched Xavier use his telepathy to erase Mikael's memories.
After Piotr made his decision, there wasn't much I could do to convince him. The man was as stubborn as they come, and had a blind spot when it came to his family. I could still remember the argument he had with his sister after he discovered she had followed us and insisted on participating in that accursed mission.
I still couldn't believe Trask had managed to slip through. It couldn't be helped since I was distracted by the Shadow King. But, it still irked me. I mean, what was it about this universe and bad guys miraculously managing to escape and coming back stronger?
First, Magneto, then Trask, and then that psychic parasite. I admit, Magneto was kind of my fault, but if I had killed him back then, I would have truly alienated Xavier and the X-men.
I wanted to show them I was better, but all it did in the end was create loose ends.
It also hadn't slipped my mind. I still had Belasco and Apocalypse sealed back at Albion (limbo).
Honestly, the only person who I have killed so far was Fisk. Which I still didn't regret. The man was a blight on humanity, and many people had suffered as a result of his rule as the Kingpin.
"It's done." Xavier suddenly announced, taking me out of my reprieve.
"Truly? How do we know it worked? " Poitr asked.
Before Xavier could answer, Mikael's eyes faintly fluttered as he was starting to wake up. He slowly opened his eyes and rose from his bed, only to see a bunch of strangers staring at him.
His eyes immediately focused on Piotr. "Brother?"
"Mikael! You're awake. " Piotr exclaimed in Russian.
"I don't understand... What's going on? Why do you look so old, and who are those people? " Mikael said, clearly confused.
Piotr raised his hands, as if telling him to slow down." Don't worry. I can explain everything. These people helped you."
Mikael's hands suddenly flew towards his head, as if trying to stave off a headache, while his eyes were screwed shut.
"The mission?" He whispered. "What happened to the mission? There was this... ugh.. Why can't I remember? " He shouted.
"It's alright, Mikael. I can understand your distress. Just give your brother a chance to explain everything, and all will be clear. " Xavier said, in perfect Russian.
I raised an eyebrow, since I was mildly impressed that he spoke Russian.
Xavier, noticing my expression, said
"When you're a telepath, learning languages becomes a lot easier than you think. Plus, not all of our students are from the U.S. Over the years, the X-Men have been on a few international missions. You never know where a young mutant can awaken his powers and speaking in their language always helps. "
I nodded my head in understanding and decided that it would probably be a good idea if I had a few members who could speak different languages on each of my own teams. Since, I figured there must be a lot of meta-humans that popped up in countries all over the world but simply didn't draw attention to themselves in fear of persecution.
'Hmm, maybe I should start a scholarship program for international students or something. I would have to open up a school though, and find teachers as well. '
I decided to leave the Rasputins to have their family reunion. So, Logan, Hank, the professor, and I streamed out of the room, and after we were out, I bade them farewell and sent them back to the mansion through a portal.
I didn't want to open a portal in front of Mikael since, more likely than not, it would have probably freaked him out.
I was slightly surprised, though, when moments later Illyana also came out and walked towards me.
"I'm going to go get Ma and Pa to see Mikael. We didn't want to tell them we found Mikael before we were sure he was out of the woods. But, I think now would be a good time to let them know and for him to see them again. " She explained.
"You sure? I could always go get them myself. " I said.
She gave me a brittle smile." Yes, I'm sure. I also think I should probably give them some alone time together. I think it would be too much of a shock for him If he knew who I was. Apparently, last time he saw me, I was just a baby."
" So, I take it you're not going back in then?" I asked.
She hummed, "I think it would be better if I just dropped off my grandparents here and then went to train or something. I also need to clear my head."
An idea suddenly came to mind, "How about I take you to Albion instead?"
"Albion? Do you mean limbo? " She said, with an unsure look on her face.
"Don't worry about it. The place has changed since the last time you saw it. I'd also like you to meet Castiel and a few of the others. Come on, it will be fun. " I said.
She still seemed a bit hesitant, so I added a cherry on top. "I could also teach you a few spells you still haven't learned, and I'll even let you fight an alien who's powered by the light dimension. Who also happens to be the first of his species. "
Her eyes widened a bit, and I could already see an excited grin on her face.
She immediately opened a portal and left to go get her grandparents and explain to them that they had found their long-lost older brother.
In the meantime, I decided to go and check on Jean and see how the resealing process was going.
It would also be a good chance to ask the Ancient One if she had any weapons that could permanently put down immortal beings. So, with that in mind, I opened a portal to the sanctum and disappeared.
