Umbra Frontier Online – A Casual Playthrough of the Umbra Witch

Chapter 10: Well, I’ve Discovered a Dungeon. + [Forum Discussion 2]

I'm back in the game in only several hours after logging out.

The instant I spawned in the town square where I'd last logged out at, I brought out my Lampy and began making my way to the Shade Forest once again.

This time, I plan to have the entire forest explored by the end of tonight. Hopefully, I don't run into The Jackson again while I'm exploring.

"Hey! The beautiful Dark Elf young lady over there!"

Suddenly, I heard a familiar voice from behind. I turned around to see who it was and learned that it was the blondie whom I had met on my first day of playing the game.

The blondie who was approaching me, stopped as he'd seemed to realise that I was the same person he tried to hit on the day before.

"Oh, wait. It's you." he said, becoming a little disappointed upon seeing me.

"Good to see you again." I greeted him politely. "How's the search for your soulmate going?"

"What do you think?" he said. "I wouldn't be hitting on you again, if I had found one now, would I?"

"Who knows. You drive me for the type of guy who would seek out a harem."

"Huh. You have a point there. That does sound fascinating." The blondie ponders on that thought with a cynical smirk. "So anyways, how have you been playing so far? I can see that you have gotten some new equipment."

"Yeah. I bought them at the store earlier today. The total was, if I recall, almost a million in-game gold."

"Whoa. That's a lot. Didn't you just start yesterday? I can't believe you got that much money in such a short time."

"Well, on the first day, I kind of just did a repeatable quest from the general store until I got that much money."

"Uh, what?" The blondie started looking at me funny. "Are you talking about the herb quest?"

"Yup. It took me almost two hours to do that quest repeatedly until I got over a million gold. But it was worth it, since the old man also gave me skill scrolls as thanks for the herbs I brought for him." I said, delightfully telling him about my experience, to which the blondie gave me a surprised look in response.

"It can't be...." He then started muttering something to himself for a moment, before looking back at me.

"Don't tell me you're the one who caused that bug?"

"What bug?"

"Uhhhhhhh....." the blondie looked like he was about to say something at that moment, but stopped as I stared cluelessly at him.

"Never mind. Forget it." He said, waving off the matter. "Anyways, I'm off to search for my soulmate again."

"I see. Well I'm off to the Shade Forest again to finish my exploration there."

"Is that so? In that case, try not to run into The Jackson while you're there. That boss monster can be quite the challenge for new players."

Yeah, umm... I ran into that goat earlier today.

"Anyways, see ya!"

"Ok. Bye. Good luck on your endeavours again."

After splitting ways with the blondie, I head off to the Shade Forest once again.

Oh, right! I forgot to ask his name, huh?

...Eh. Never mind. I ask the next time if I ever see him again.

And so, as I ventured deeper into the forest than I ever had before, I began to notice that I have been encountering more Boneys than Scrowlers and Acid Jellies recently. In addition to the skeleton monsters, zombie monsters called Draugrs and ghost monsters called Ghasts have become more of the encounters I meet as the exploration continues.

Did I accidentally stumble across the Dead Plains or Foggy Graveyard that Hikari and Himeji told me about?

No, that doesn't seem right.

Then why am I seeing so many undead-type monsters recently?

While I was thinking about the reason, several Boneys and Draugrs dug themselves out from the ground. So, I erased them.

"Multi-Fireball."

Thanks to the Multi-Casting skill I've acquired after beating The Jackson, I easily wiped the floor with these undead, especially since the fire-attribute is one of their weaknesses.

Then, while I was in the middle of scorching the skeletons and zombies to ashes, a Ghast tried to get the jump on me and appeared right behind me.

Too bad it sucks at stealth....

"Moon Walk."

My body was engulfed in a bright light as I teleported right behind the Ghast as I'd intended to.

"Nothing personal. But you should really be quiet if you want to sneak up on someone." I adviced to the Ghast. And then....

"Multi-Fireball."

"Kkiiissahhhhhhaaaaaa!!!!"

The monster screeched as it turned into a strange lump of ectoplasm on the ground instead of turning into black mist after dying. Perhaps different monsters have different types of death animation? Either way, I seemed to have levelled up from that. Making me level 16 now.

Also, this is what teleportation feels like, huh? Not going to lie, it was a strange thing to be experiencing.

But anyways with that, I moved on—

"Waaaah~! Oof."

Ouch.... What the hell did I just trip on?

I turned around and found a man-size, flat stone platform, covered in mosses and hidden by the grass which was the reason why I didn't see it until I accidentally hit it, I think.

The platform has a strange-looking pattern carved on it and there is even a small hole in the center that seemed to have air coming out from it.

There's something beneath this platform.

I stood up and tapped the platform with my staff. Hearing a faint hollow sound from it.

The platform must be pretty thick, it would seem. In that case....

I aimed my staff at the platform.

"Mana Bolt!"

And bam! The platform crumbled into pieces and fell down the hole it was covering. An ominous wind echoed out of the hole afterwards.

Sweet. Looks like I've discovered something interesting. I wonder what I'll find here. But first, I must confirm how far down the bottom is.

"Snipe. Fireball!"

With its range increased by the Snipe skill, the Fireball spell I'd sent straight down the hole. However, it would seem the hole doesn't go all the way down as the Fireball soon hit a curve, three seconds after I'd fired it.

I see....

"Lampy, could you turn your light on for me?"

As I asked my Lamp Bug kindly, it shook its bottom rapidly to initiate its illumination. Giving me the light I wanted.

"Thanks, little buddy." I patted Lampy after that.

Then, I put my arms to my chest and jumped into the manhole.

"Wooooo~!"

The manhole is a slide, as expected! Even as an adult, this is so fun!

But the fun was there while it lasted. Because right after reaching the end of the slide, I landed in a pile of bones which shattered into ashes so easily under the weight of my bottom. Ouch.

"Now then, where are we?" I got up to my feet and let Lampy light up my surroundings.

Around me I find more bones and skeletons kept inside of the walls. To the point where the hallway, and probably everywhere else, is just filled with them.

"Am I in a catacomb?"

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You have discovered [Hidden Dungeon: Underground Catacombs]!
==================
Initiating Hidden Quest: [Records of the Fallen Kingdom.]
Venture through the Underground Catacombs and collect all written stone tablets to learn of the history behind the Forgotten Kingdom.
Will you accept the quest?
[Yes] / [No]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Oh my, oh my~ This is really getting interesting now!

I mean.... Since I'm already here, I might as well accept it, yeah?

So I pressed Yes. Now, let's see, let's see....

According to the quest, I will need to collect these stone slabs that can be found as I explore the dungeon.

Then without further ado, let us begin!

[The game's rating?]

  1. OP

So earlier today I walked past this female player who is an incredibly hot Dark Elf character wearing some really bombastic outfits which made me want to ask how is this game rated B for 12 years old and above

  1. A Passing Adventurer

So we got an eternal night time system in-game, nightmare monsters of darkness, a dark lore setting and so much more. But a player whose character has big boobs is what made you question the game's rating?

Also, use some punctuation! Jesus Christ...

  1. A Passing Adventurer

>> 2

Hey. Don't bring my man Jesus into this.

But yeah, I agree with you. The game definitely should not be rated B. It stands at around C at least since there isn't any blood or gore in the game.

  1. A Passing Adventurer

Lol. Funny how the game doesn't have any graphic blood or gore when the setting of the game itself should have it. But then again, the monsters are scary enough as it is. The idea of implementing life-like blood and goriness into the game might just make me drop UFO altogether.

Imagine getting mauled by The Jackson, for example, and seeing your innards exposed with your own eyes before you die. Gosh that would be awful.

  1. A Passing Adventurer

>> 4

Weak. I would love that sort of thing.

But for others, probably not. So yeah. Thank you devs for not putting that in.

  1. A Passing Adventurer

Speaking of The Jackson, how many players were able to beat it when they first met it?

I remember running into it while playing solo. Only to get destroyed by it after I got freaked out by its appearance. That goat was scary af.

  1. A Passing Adventurer

>> 6

Not that many actually. It is one of the hardest boss monsters for new players for a reason.

Most players tend to accidentally run into it while exploring the Shade Forest. But if you're in a well-levelled party, you may be able to take it out with your friends, give or take. But if there's no Shielder or Cleric in your party, then you'll be having a hard time.

  1. A Passing Adventurer

>> 7

Don't forget that not having a Magician or Summoner would make the fight last even longer. The Jackson has a greater resistance towards physical attacks than it does against magic attacks. So having an all physical attacking team will just mean more work for your Shielder or Cleric.

I'm surprised that Zanny was able to solo that thing on the first day of the game's release.

  1. A Passing Adventurer

>> 8

Someone soloed it?

  1. A Passing Adventurer

>> 9

Yup. And not just someone. But Zanny. That guy was one of the top players in the beta version of the game. Which was probably why he knew how to handle a boss monster like The Jackson. According to him, The Jackson also has a breath and snare attack which was originally not in the beta. It also has a newly added second form which can be prevented if you kill it fast enough.

And just when I thought The Jackson couldn't be harder than it already is. The devs decided to make that thing even harder for new players.

  1. A Passing Adventurer

Lmao. The devs are real sadists for sure. Zanny, and probably the other top players who'd played the beta like Red and Sindri, are probably the only people who could solo that boss first try without worries. Maybe one of them will even be the first to complete a Liberation Quest if they find the next city.

But back to Zanny, I heard he's going around trying to hit on every female player he has come across. Do you think he has already tried to hit on the hot Dark Elf player mentioned by OP?

  1. A Passing Adventurer

>> 11

I'm sure he has. I mean Dark Elves are all objectively hot in the game, regardless of gender. Who could pass up hitting on that? Even if there's a chance of them being a dude inside.

  1. A Passing Adventurer

>> 12

Amen to that, brother. The Dark Elf and High Elf races have peak character customisation designs. The Beastman race on the other hand were done dirty with very limited animal variations. The ability to not become monke disappointed me greatly. So I went with Human instead as the next closest thing.

  1. A Passing Adventurer

>> 13

The Beastman was fine to me. If there's any race that was done dirty, it's the Dwarf. The female designs of the Dwarf were mid and fact there's only 10 beard variations for the male version, severely hurts my soul.

As a hairdresser in real life, I can easily think of 30 fabulous beard designs from the top of my head. There needs to be more beard variations! Justice for the Dwarves!

  1. OP

>> 14

Nah. If we're talking about which race was done dirty the most instead of questioning the game's rating, then it's got to be the Lizardman race.

There is no female option for that race. Like why!? I wanted to create my dommy mommy lizard character but couldn't because of that.

  1. A Passing Adventurer

>> 15

Ayo, OP. That's kind of sus.

Also, I totally forgot we were supposed to be discussing the game's rating. Lol.

Definitely a C rating at least like I said before. But really, who cares about that?
